Sound baby monitor here. Dont see the need for a monitor on it, as if you want to check on the child, get up and look (at least thats my opinion on the matter). As for your router, phone sky and tell them that the router is developing a wifi issue and you can't get it in your house in some spots. Explain you are an IT technician/manager etc and they tend to just say "ok, we will send out a new one for you"...on doing so, you will get a 5GHz one. Then you can sit back, light your pipe and admire your handiwork!

I have no issue with Apple products, I have issue with Apple. Its a big difference. Apple products are well made (never said they weren't) and well marketed. Its just the BS and hype thrown in that people believe which bugs me. Apple are "allegedly" bringing out the worlds "first" waterproofed phone with the iPhone 6 - this is based off various tech web forums such as anandtech. That can go to Sony (or someone else if they did it first, I think maybe Nokia did it ages and ages ago?). Also Apple claimed they made multitouch, when they didn't (as proven in this thread). The fanboys will believe anything, and defend it with the sort of zealousness you'd expect from religious nutjobs.

actually no, it didn't. Its been festering over time. Seawolf likes to paint the picture "I use everything and bash everything equally" but the moment someone mentions Apple didn't do something right, or didn't do something first, or didn't do something better, he jumps to their defense. This thread alone he has been proven wrong a few times, yet Apple can "still do no wrong" (or so the impression he paints.) Its just annoying, tedious and frankly, many of us (assuming here) are sick and tired of it.

Can I point out that androids first public release was September 2008 as its own OS from google, but the OS was formed shortly after the Android company was formed (before the google buyout), in 2003, they just couldn't find anyone willing to release a phone with a touchscreen and an untested OS, so developed the OS for digital cameras and had to wait for the phones. Its first phone iteration was then adopted by LG in 2005 (shortly before the google buyout) and frankly bastardised into the LG FlashUI OS which was on the LG Prada in 2006. So how you can say that the OS would have looked like blackberry, when in fact it was its own legit OS for LG, which looked nothing like blackberry, BEFORE the iPhone was announced, I will never know

I read the article through, the environment he seems to work in is Apple heavy, not himself. He states its other staff he helps which use apple products. He said late in the article he uses a Macbook with Ubuntu and Mac OSX when the mood takes him. He bashed a lot of companies in there, both rightly and wrongly. It is unfair to say that the OS manufacturers have made this generation of dumb users, when in fact it is a lack of proper skills being taught. I have often advocated, for good IT lessons, you need to have hardware savvy people, ideally the technicians, to go through the subject. Have 30 breaker machines, which the kids can strip and put back together. They'll be much more inclined to learn then if they can make and break it without fear. My daughter (who is nearly 5) is able to install an OS (albeit with help from me), she can add apps to a phone, she can add contacts too a phone, in fact I gave her my old galaxy note (with no sim) to play with, and she gets along fine, she can put the wifi on, she can also do this on my mrs laptop. By this guys standard, she can use a PC.

Whilst @seawolf makes a valid point that it isn't just apple that do this carp, they are the ones most likely to get away with it because they spend millions on lawyers to bully the little person into giving up and making it unjustifiably difficult and expensive for the "indie" or "low key" developer to continue. No company is clean in this department, what I would like to see though, is Apple buying the patent from the developer rather than trying to force through as their own, that way the original creator gets something out of it.

Whilst I agree with your statement, in the UK education system, if you are not a member of the teaching staff, you will find very little help to change your working conditions. A union can only do so much for 1 person, you'd need to have thousands (if not tens or hundreds of thousands) willing to stand up and strike and assist with the change, and frankly, too many are timid, bullied or dont want to rock the boat for fear of losing their jobs. We are easily replaced in the education system unfortunately
