It all depends on mailbox numbers. We have only 100 mailboxes on ours (using an all-in-one setup like yours) and the server runs fine with only 4GB RAM. Personally I suspect that HD size and speed may be more of a limiting factor than RAM in your case. With 1000 mailboxes you are going to get a LOT more disk activity than we do. I would also recommend the use of a separate partition for the mail and log store so that mail activity cannot fill up the C: drive.

Only legal headroom restriction I know of is the building regs specification of a mere 1.8m (5'11") above staircases. I would use a risk assessment approach if you need to build a H&S case.

If you create the folder manually, does Java work? If so, I'd say it's logon script/GPP time. We both know Oracle aren't going to fix it.

For those of you that have recently installed DirSync, be aware that the admin account that DirSync uses to authenticate to Office 365 is not exempt from the password expiration policy. This means that in the default setup, DirSync will break 90 days after you first set up the admin account. Obviously if you have changed the password expiration policy, it will be longer (or shorter), but even lengthening it to the maximum of 730 days will only delay the inevitable. The error messages you get form it are also bloody useless and contain only obscure clues to what the problem is. The email you get from MicrosoftOnline.com only refers to this page which mentions nothing about password expiry. Meanwhile, the FIM UI reports a status of stopped-extension-dll-exception and Event Viewer only has this to say: Nice to know Microsoft are still world-leading in descriptive error messages, isn't it? Or the troubleshooting page? The above blog post is nearly 2 years old and still no-one has got around to putting it in the official documentation.

IP routing is disabled by default on HP switches. I actually can't find where to enable it in the web GUI (it may be there but I rarely use the web GUI), but in telnet you simply go into the configuration context and type ip routing. Alternatively it's in the telnet menu under Switch Configuration > IP Configuration. The model you have only does basic layer 3 routing; you can't set ACLs as far as I know, so it's all or nothing.

For reference, I've also seen this caused by old versions of Bonjour that get installed with Adobe CS2 products.

Definitely recommend ceiling speakers anywhere you have a drop ceiling. Not only do they look neater, but the entire ceiling void acts as the speaker enclosure and gives them speakers a surprising boost compared with wall speakers of a similar size. I've used both the Avid and TechConnect amps; @plexer is right that the TechConnect ones are more powerful, but the Avid ones are fine for small rooms. The TechConnect ones are so good that I even got enough oomph out of one to do power 2 pairs of 8" ceiling speakers in our assembly hall by wiring up the speakers in parallel to lower the impedance.

That just looks an awful lot like outsourcing to me, which lots of companies did 10 years ago and have since reversed as in many cases it was expensive and terrible.

Have you checked spamhaus to see if your IP has been blacklisted? That could account for more than one domain rejecting mail from you, though normally with a different error code. Worth checking just in case though.

Pretty sure we saw the same guff about 5 years ago, yet here we all are. The job changes, but it still needs doing, by pretty much the same people, with the same job title. Nothing to see here.

It's been an issue with the UPD for years, but I've seen it in other HP drivers too since then. It wouldn't surprise me at all if other brands had similar problems, sometimes it feels like nobody knows how to write a printer driver that actually complies with the Microsoft standards.

The Logitech HD ones are pretty good. We have a number of Logitech B910 webcams that are fantastic, though for the price you could buy a low-end Canon Powershot that will work better. Does it have to be a webcam and not a normal camera?
