  1. All the more chuffed that I got 3.3kWh solar energy - roll on longer days!
  2. When is soon?
  3. Across Edugeek Signapp seems to be regarded favourably. Our charity has just received a quote. I note on SignApps website, they suggest calling if you are interested in an educational based contract. We support schools a lot, but are not a school, but I'm wondering if the Edu licensing offers much of a discount, with the goal then to start some negotiations.
  4. I see the idea that the right equipment is pricey and have seen SMT flat-out say no. But it really is a necessary part of the job and should be regarded as investment, not expenditure. Could you imagine the cost of the school minibus for the driver to ferry kids around, the cost of filling a DT department, the cost of the HT's Apple Mac pro, the cost of the AV departments equipment, the catering teams kitchen equipment, cleaners floor polishing machine - you get the drift! All to enable them to do their jobs.
  5. I have come across similar and was interested in pursuing a certification related to Data Analysis. However, the scheme was not available to part time workers. I would encourage anyone who has the time and interest in moving their career forward, to look closely as to what is on offer.
  6. What filtering/monitoring approach will you be using on the Chromebooks?
  7. My goodness, you just described my job and role in a nutshell! Just today, I spotted that my new LM (who, on paper, has full responsibility for Data Protection and Cybersecurity and has admitted to me in our first 1-1 she doesn't really know much about it but is looking forward to learning from me), I spotted a ticket has been raised that reported suspected spam. IT support agreed and has blocked. I'm trying to find out if IT support blocks the whole domain for all users or the reporting user - I suspect the former. The issue is that the email is from a 100% bona fide charity to provide support to other charities in AI and cybersecurity, and can assist with funding on occasions. The reviews for them are excellent, and all their details, like charity number, are included in the email. Talk about swimming against the tide - I'm one half, no quarter, decent job offer of being out of this insanity in a flash,
  8. I see a lot of positives in the idea, and for creating a better recognition of the importance of well implemented IT policies and procedures. But, there has to be a cost. Where's the money coming from? Regardless, if I was in school and a budget holder, I'm looking to putting a coated 5 year plan together and start securing funding now. If I didn't have a budget, I've pushing the budget holder to explain how they plan to work towards meeting the requirements - or ask for a budget! I can see the larger MATS running this centrally. It is the smaller clusters that might struggle.
  9. Is 5Foot2 dropping a hint 🤣
  10. I meet effing problems almost everyday 🙃
  11. We have a local crime wave where someone, or a gang, are stealing the wheels off parked up police cars. Police say they are working tirelessly to find the culprits.
  12. Heretic. Included with Prime video. Thoroughly enjoyable. Not too gory, mostly at towards the end.
  13. No, I think that's it. The initial glass will need a firm thumb press and that'll allow access. The inner hammer will have toughened spike ends, presumably capped, which when used to sharply hit toughened glass, will shatter in to small pieces which can be pushed out. Helpful when trying to escape trains, cars and staff rooms. I do like the idea of a mini version for getting through the first glass, Russian doll style.
  14. Just finished series 1 of The Death of Bunny Munro on Sky Atlantic. Having thought hard about it, my 2 word conclusion is sleazy claptrap. There are some impressive parts to it and it's mostly well after and some of the sound track is excellent. I think I can see some of what it is trying to be, but I think it comes up short.
  15. I suspect no additional funding is coming to support the requirements? So, whilst the idea of getting additional training, or improved recognision and maybe a pay increase due to additional responsibilities - well no, I don't see that happening. Whilst none of this, unless someone tells me otherwise, is audited by say Ofsted, I really don't see it changes many heads mindsets. Whether you can leverage meeting the standards, I guess will come down to inviduals and their workspace. With a former governance hat on, the opening line where it says "should meet" as opposed to "must meet" means little will change. I've diaried myself to revisit this thread in 1 years time - it will be insighttful to look back and see what feedback we have.
  16. Ear plugs/headset is sensible to protect your ears - Health and Safety policy would support your actions. I would hope no one objects!
  17. IT Network manager Dunnotar School - £39,057—£52,982 depending on experience - Full time - 37.5 hours pw Just saw this - I have nothing to do with the school and am just posting in case anyone wants to follow up https://ce0374li.webitrent.com/ce0374li_webrecruitment/wrd/run/ETREC179GF.open?WVID=6061199C2D

  18. I trust the bue-tit isn't plastic too 😄
  19. The biggest problem with AI is the 'I'. Thinking that the goal is intelligence in the way that humans exhibit intelligence is the wrong way to think about it's use. Humans are very good at being human, from the extreme socially effective, compassionate being, to the most horrific being on the planet. We could do with a better term than AI. However, what is currently referred to as AI is extremely helpful to allow humans to make rapid steps forwards in a variety directions, but can be used to the detriment of humans too. We don't need technology that thinks like humans, but we can benefit from technology that works better and faster than things we are not so good at.
  20. Oh dear. I asked ChatGPT to explain how it came to state a number of points on the topic alluded to above. It ripped itself to bits! I'm coming to the conclusion it needs to be told 'No inference, just referenced based facts". I can talk to so many people about something they know very little about or are perhaps Daily Snail educated readers, and let them talk (you know the word) but let's say infered deductions. I really expert better from ChatGPT, but perhaps that is unreasonable?!
  21. I've been using ChatGPT recently looking at legal case histories - I wish I didn't need to but heyhoe! It effectively quoted a case scenario that staggeringly matched a scenario I am reserching. I asked ChatGPT to provide the source of the information. The reply was "That example was an illustrative summary I drew from the mix of practitioner commentary and unreported/settled determinations you often see in legal briefings (i.e. the sort of unreported tribunal decisions or settlement outcomes that advisers cite when counselling clients). I should have made that clearer — apologies." Some would argue that fits the bill of "You made it up!". I've got a lot of useful information and often with verified sources which I can check out, but the 'illustrative summary' isn't something I find engenders trust particularly! I suppose it apoligised and I believe I could ask to to state clearly when it is building 'illustrative summaries' in future - and it will remember. All part of the AI journey I guess!
  22. So I finally got it to install eventually by releasing about 4Gb (massive OST move - and that was a pain) but Windows update continued to report lack of space, but after a few reboots and runs of Windows update troubleshooter and another reboot I finally slumped over the line. So that's the last Win 10 update other than if/when I sign up to ESU. That was the worst and most troublesome Win 10 update I've had to deal with - sad finish really to Win 10 - coincidence or bad luck - you decide! I know I'm just delaying the inevitable, even if that inevitability is a Rufus Win 11 install.
  23. I've been thinking I might grudginly go ESU (Home environment). I'd like to install the final Win 10 update before hand - KB5066791. I'm short on diskspace but in spite of a large amount of files to a 1TB, I constanly get c drive full. Diskcleanup no longer seem to work. The file properties for size just doesn't seem to update reliably. The Windows update is now saying I need anywhere from 77MB to 790MB of space. I suspect the fact it is also trying to install KB5066747 and KB890830 isn't helping. Is there a way to clear down updates (empty C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download) downloads and then run the 2 other update manually before once again trying KB5066791? Ultimately I need a large boot device and I have plans, but right now I just want to get up to date and then go ESU.
  24. I suppose Sheffield Wednesday should be added to this thread. Any supporters out there that could pass comment?
