  1. It does end up attached to our finance package but that happens automatically provided the filenames are in the correct format. OCR and the ability to find invoice numbers are the main functionality we are looking for but there is a second function archiving school records and photo's in a searchable database that we would like to be able to do also, so the software is going to be as if not more important than the device. Thanks for the comments thus far Roy
  2. Hi Does anyone have a managed document scanning solution? We need to scan c1000 invoices per month and would like to automate as much of the process as possible. Recommendations on both hardware and software would be appreciated. TIA Roy
  3. Has this issue been resolved as we are experiencing the same issue
  4. Lecturer I Don't worry too much about the HE/FE as essential experience, education will do.
  5. I went from IT management in schools to lecturing HE (foundation degrees and degrees) in network engineering. I am leaving my post next month and the college (Blackpool and the Fylde) will be advertising my post at the start of the month. They will be keen to see that whoever takes the post has experience in the role of network engineer/network manager/sys admin. So if that takes your fancy then look out for the ad next month. Feel free to ask any questions Roy
  6. what do you use (software) to do the backup?
  7. Hi all I have a data set that is 60GB and growing. I need to have a backup/synchronise the data set at another site. I can physically take a copy of the data to the new site so the solution would require either synchronising on a schedule or incremental backup. The servers are not in the same forest so dfs can't be used, anyone do anything like this already? WAN link is slow (512Kb) TIA Roy
  8. RDP works internally and externally.(with no restriction on source IP) Firewall is the one that ships with R2 router is a thompson (similar to o2 and Be) Site is some distance away so no local access hence the rdp. Will look at securing with IPSEC. Thanks for trying
  9. That's what I did, put my public IP in the lower section and it doesn't work
  10. 2008r2 behind nat router, port forwarding rdp to server. I have static ip, again behind nat router. want to set firewall to only accept rdp from my ip (static public IP of my router) So i assume that i would put my ip in the lower of the two boxes. Surprise, it doesn't work..... So for a gold star and 10 brownie points Does port forwarding on a NAT router forward or does it handle the communication? (i.e. change the source IP in the packet header)? or is there another issue here? TIA Roy
  11. Without Prejudice My personal experience of them is 7 years old, but at the time they were awful in terms of quality and the emails and phone calls only ended after threatening legal action (they did start phoning me at home in my defence)
  12. I have no idea about prices/levels of support. Its got nothing to do with me. All i do is assign it an IP and setup the printer drivers on the server. Had a look at the CFS kits, unfortunately this environment (state high school) does notlend itself to having bottles of ink connected by tubes to a printer in a student accessible area. I have found great savings to be made by switching to laser for both mono and colour. Take a look at http://www.kyoceramita.co.uk for a price comparison against your current inkjets, and if any of you have an inkjet that runs cheaper cpp i would be very interested.
  13. I would welcome recommendations for any company that leases an A3 colour PSC for that price. We have moved from inkjets because of running costs. (TCO)
  14. do you have any?

Anyone got one of these A3 printers? Can you print from XP PC's? If so what drivers are you using? (and can you print from serif draw 7, or any version of serif come to that)
  16. which model?
  17. Current scanners here require user to be local admin, anyone use/know another way.
