I understand the point you were trying to make but there's no way this will go down well with SLT. To them you're not making a point to the teachers, you're denying resources to students. Resources that, dare i say it, are hard to come by. The correct procedure in this case is go to SLT and cause a stink about the issue, preferably to the headteacher in charge of curriculum (or equivalent role) or the school business manager,

We're approaching renewal time with frog and i am making a big push to move away from it. I think the time of the VLE has well and truly passed, when i was a teacher I hated using them and now as a technician i hate them even more. You're right, all students want is their files and curated links, something that shouldn't have a 3k price tag attached! I'm a big believer in path of least resistance methods and want everything to be integrated into the schools office 365 infrastructure, and for that reason I'm going to be pushing for a product like Teacher Dashboard for Microsoft Office 365 to take over.

Some things to beware of when replacing shared areas with sharepoint: 1. Sharepoint isn't really the best document management system, and from my experience you will face a lot of resistance to its use. The fact you have to go through O365 was a particular point of contention for my staff. 2. Don't just map your shared area to a document library, you waste 99% of the functionality of sharepoint (also, you will very quickly hit the file limit for a document library). Instead, chunk it all out. I had the curriculum teams sort their documents out (e.g maths, science so on) and then provide them with their own sharepoint site to store it in. This will also allow them to sync the materials useful to them without syncing every last file (RIP your network!) 3. Once this chunking task was completed, using file explorer/mapping network drives allowed me to upload folder structures without hassle. To fufill the auto login issue, go to the page you wish to use file explorer for, copy the url, then log out. Paste the url back in and login through there making sure to tick the keep me signed in box as you go in. It's temperamental as anything could be so you have my sympathy for this. It's a herculean task to be sure, and what summers were made for. sadly, some heads think its a simple copy/paste!

Other than spiceworks,if your school has sharepoint it is relatively easy to make a ticketed help desk system integrated with outlook (for auto replies) and a sharepoint site using just lists and workflows. Took me about 2 hours to get going.

I have been asked by the school to create a document library of templates within sharepoint for all staff to use - so far so good on that front. However leadership have noticed that when they open word in office 365 they are presented with a series of templates and would like ours to be there in place of the office standard templates, for all staff across the school. Any way to do this?

Hi Dave Thanks for the reply. What i feel is happening is the partner is buying a pool of data from o2, then reselling it to us in 5GB chunks. Any cut offs are then done by the partner, which explains the delay (as much as 3 days in one case!) in cutting off when a student goes over,does this seem likely? DH
