A second Mac issue for me in two days. I can't rightly express how much I detest them but I'll keep trying I guess. Awful things. Today the awful things seem to just not want to Adobe. Photoshop is asking students to register, also the following/attached message appears. I'll be hugely grateful for any pointers on this. It seems we have enough licenses (gleaned by asking the more Mac-capable members of support) but I'm at sea with this one. How do I arrive at a state of affairs where Photoshop "just works" from this point? Thanks hugely any and everyone.

Anyone Know the Old Dell N2048 Switches? "Easy" Menu Available?
JRA posted a topic in Wired Networks
Ok bear with me on this one, an HP/Aruba switch sort of person and one of our sites has these old-style Dell N2048 switches everywhere: Going to have to Putty into them at some point, and in the Arubas there's the "menu" options in the CLI to get to something a little more "user friendly." Do the Dells have anything similar or am I just going to have to crack the Dell CLI manual to fiddle with them? Thanks anyone! -
Restarted it a bunch of times. Now it's ok again. I didn't even have to visit the genius bar in the end. Is it still called that even? And do they still clap?

Evening all, first foray into the Mac forum, definitely a "loath" person. A deep, deep loath person... Reinforcing this low opinion of Macs is today's expensive failure in Sibelius. We have Sibelius 8 with 20 seats available licensed from our Mac server. The Mac server is on the correct IP address and correct VLAN. The Mac clients complain now of being un-licensed and can't find the license server. When the user is asked to specify one manually, the server IP address is (correctly) pre-populated but we can't actually get further and get licensed. Meanwhile the Mac server sits there with the Sibelius licensing thing opened, dishing out nothing. Does anyone have any idea where to start with it? Thanks so much to anyone passing who can throw me a bone here. I hate these things.

Oh man didn't even know you could do that in putty! Super useful thank you. It's not in there. And TBH it's an external PoE camera so I'm assuming a magpie or a rugby ball has interfered with it and I need to get the ladder out. Thanks much everyone.

Thanks for that. Oddly tried the menu way by scouring the VLAN on all three of the switches the device could be plugged into but not a sausage. In fact, that didn't seem to show any devices at all in ANY VLANs, so I'd wondered if that'd been a new thing HP retired from the cli terminal login "menu". show mac-address brings up the arp-something as per usual, but scouring it not seeing the address I'm after. And not seeing any obvious way to export or ctrl+f that. Cheers again though.

Afternoon all, Back in the day I used to have the old HP ProCurve manager. With that I could find the switch and port a device (PC printer etc) was on by searching for it's MAC address. Is there anything around now that can do that? Thanks all.

Populate the Alternate Email/Email Alias in Gsuite with AD Info?
JRA replied to JRA's topic in Cloud Services
Goodness you folks are wonderful thanks all! -
Morning all, Have a bit of an odd one. Feeling my way around a new place's Gsuite I've had PasswordSync just not work for a group of staff here. Discovered why the other day. We use both O365 AND Gmail here, and the group in question has a different email address in the mail field in AD to their Gmail address, so ofc that sync won't work being keyed to it. I have discovered though that adding in the email address that appears in AD to the "Alternate email addresses (email alias)" in User information DOES then allow the PasswordSync to work. Question is though how to automate that. Can GAM do it even? Has anyone reading also got this and solved it? Thanks much any/everyone for any pointers!

May just do that Tom thanks. What command runs specifically on the Smoothie box to generate the tar file?
-
Morning all, Just gotten back into education and MY WORD it seems like AGES ago I did this. We have a Smoothie appliance on site and I cannot for the life of me remember how to back up Smoothwall. I do recall it involving shoving a USB stick in the back but that is a very hazy memory. Are there better ways nowadays? Thanks folks!

Morning all, Just thought I'd tie this thread up with my current situation (as I hate Googling and finding unanswered queries out there in the wild, just in case someone comes across mine now!) In short, this can't be done. Yet. In FOG you have the regular splash screen (it's pretty) and the option to hide certain menu options behind that so, for example, bored children can't image the universe. If however you elect to do that behind the advanced menu from the webgui options then it breaks. FOG devs haven't had chance to sort this in the way they'd like it, so I just hid mine with the pre-splash pxe boot options requiring a key press, which then requires a login, which therefore hides all the "risky" business. More here: Securing FOG Boot Options? | FOG Project

I swear I had this working in the last FOG server I set up... Got FOG installed yesterday and all in DHCP, clients booting ok when tested. However I'd like to lock down the options to image and inventory PCs with a password. I can't seem to get that to "take" in the web gui or anywhere. Not even sure I have the right setting but I do recall this not being an issue before. Anyone know where this is set? Thanks much all.

Morning all, So I've taken over a position at a (really quite awesome) school having moved on to pastures new. Team awesome, staff great, seems great... ...and then Macs. My predecessor dealt with everything to do with the Macs and has now left. Didn't leave much in terms of documentation and I myself am not a Mac person. The music dept run Logic and Sibelius, and have two suites with Macs on happily running away. There is a Mac next to me in the IT office in need of Sibelius and Logic on it, but we have zero information on our licensing, and I myself have zero knowledge of Macs. Managed to install Sibelius (hooray, go me) but it's asking for things. Not even tried installing Logic yet. Now I'm being asked for keys and things I don't know. How do I even go about trying to find out what the school and site are licensed for, with whom, and how to, like, "put that" on this Mac next to me? Thanks all! I hope this isn't too silly a question but I guess I gotta start somewhere!

I Don't Understand (and at this point I'm afraid to ask.) Profiles?
JRA replied to JRA's topic in Windows 10
Thanks so so much. Maybe I was overthinking it. It's literally just redirect folders and "do without" now? -
I Don't Understand (and at this point I'm afraid to ask.) Profiles?
JRA posted a topic in Windows 10
I've left this so long, I just don't know I ever fully understood. If anyone has their sock puppets handy, please please help me out. So in the world of W7 we had profiles. Profile path was set in the Profiles tab in AD and we all got our desktop contents etc wherever we logged on. Everything was good and we were all happy then. They were good times and I wasn't confused. Along came W10 and we "just don't use profiles anymore." But... but... how do I get my desktop unified across workstations when I log in? Do I just wanna try and redirect these to a subfolder of my users' home areas? Where does all that old profiles stuff "go to" now? I can't even and I am sorry. I just don't have my head around this. -
(Hopefully Simple Question) LACP Switch To Switch on Flat Network?
JRA replied to JRA's topic in Wired Networks
HP to Draytek in this case, HP both ends if my order comes in before Friday! Thanks much. -
Hi all - I think this is do-able, but never tried, so before even trying thought I'd ask! Got a flat network here, and yes I would LOVE to sort VLANs out but that's a mission for another day. Right now I need to connect two switches together, and wondered if it's possible to join two ports in an LACP group on both switches, and will that "work" as effectively a 2gb link even though no VLANs here? I'm sure it will, but not so sure that I'm gonna assume before asking. Thanks to anyone passing who can steer me right.

Hi all, Use Locker to create "Teachers of ..." groups directly from SIMS. Which it will create but doesn't *seem* like it's playing nice with GADS. It does for all the world look like GADS is binning these groups, looking through the settings to try and get it to stop that but I'm drawing a blank a little. Looking at Google Apps Config > Exclusion Rules and at this point I'm not sure if I'm in the right place for a "leave these alone" settings. All groups begin with the same prefix, anyone good with GADS steer me right? Thanks anyone!
-
Okay think I have it. For these (and probably other) settings, they need specifically re-enabling after any given policy disables them. So in order to put in a policy to do so you'd (I guess) have to keep the MoS you don't want to get restricted in a special OU for it and apply the policy there OR (as I've done) tried to alter the permissions in the delegation tab of the policy. If going the second route, make sure the group Authenticated Users is still there (I binned it) AND just give them "read" and not "apply" along with it. Then put your separate MoS in to "apply" that policy, then you're good. EDIT - Also mark the policy as enforced too! It's gone 6 so I'm off to the chippy.
-
Hi - no set this one as user policy; User > Policies > Admin Templates > System > Removable Storage RSOP kinda just doesn't have any of those settings at all in the "system" folder where I'd expect them. EDIT - for clarity though, another MoS account logging in will display what I'd expect in the System folder for RSOP. So I guess demonstrates my downstream policy is actually applying for all the good that's doing, it's just not "actually working." :/

Hi everyone - seem to have a sticky one... Put in policy to block USB devices for staff. One user does 100% need removable disks, so just thought I'd add a deny into the Apply group policy permissions from the delegation tab. No joy though. Even added downstream a policy that applies solely to them to enable USB drives but no joy at all, still inaccessible. Anyone ever seen this one and un-picked it? Thanks for any help if you got any!
