its easy for us, as we restrict the number of PC's which can access cmis for security/data protection. Also the users who use CMIS use the same PC each day. Lucky i supposse.

we cant even delete the user account from the account management screen? whats going on there? its like any changes we make as admin just get reversed? we uncheck a box and log out and back in its rechecked?

not heard of this before, we create a folder called Admin on the C: drive, which we save the databse connection file too, then any changes the individual makes to personlise CMIS gets saved to the C:\admin folder locally, thus not effecting the server defaults. psexec, from sysinternals. Can give you a remote shell, and has some snazzy remote copy (and executio) command line switches too.

WE have around 30 Power Macs that are all stand alone in music. Basically we have a number of accounts on all of the machines and one admin account which manages all those accounts on each machine. We have parental controls enabled to stop them messing about with system properties etc... We've just started the new year and need to reset the year 11 account password on each machine, we log on as ADMIN and go to accounts, reset password, enter the password twice to verify, everything seems to work, log out of admin, login as year 11 user and it doesnt accept the new password, any ideas??? There is also a GPO attched to the base workstation policy to restrict the universal file open dialogue and macros etc of office which applies to all 5 rooms and is being loaded and applied. Do you not think this may have something to do with it, have u tried enabling some of the restrictions you have made? work backwards, enable everything if you have to. Sometimes this has happened to us, were not sure why but we start a new databse and import the tables into it and then the reports work? who knows?

In Birmingham i beleive almost every school as external access to eportal over https://. http://www.bgfl.org/services/itcmis/eportal.htm You will need to customise how much information is on show to staff, pupils and parents. For instance when we set it up all teachers could search for pupils details, home tel number, doctors name, etc not the best setup. We upset some teachers by showing there home address and telephone number on there account when they logged in. enjoy it, iti'll be fun!

just placed and order with selectamark using there Supermark system so theres a vinyl sticker which crumbles if u try and remove it, plus the chemical etching as we didnt think the etching was particularly visible on its own.

I know this has been discussed before but.... We had a number of computers stolen at the weekend, G4 powermacs and cinema displays from a first floor classroom. They were suppossed to be bolted to the floor in a steel cage but it seems they were only screwed into the floor with 1 inch screws. just got kicked out and dropped out of the window. SLT think we should now security mark everything to act as a deterant. I personally dont think this is a deterannt, may help police with identification providing the machine inst stripped down for parts. Weve looked at a number of solutions as we now have about 500 PCs/macs to security mark. We were intrested in Security Mark but seem quite expensive, we were thinking we could find some kind of security paint available on the market Which cannot be removed from both Metal cases and plastic covers on monitors? any ideas welcome? Most important part of the brief is to be visable. UV markers out of the window.

I presume youve set up there mailbox in active directory? also....have you sent each user a blank email to activater the account so they can login? Dan

Just tried to slip that menu in, works pretty well but you need to decide wether your going to use tables or CSS layers? It gets complicated when you start building you site within layers and tables, tables within layers fine, but when your using css and tables for positionging elements its not the easiest. Theres planety of css templates out there that would easily mirror what you are trying to achieve. edit made purely with CSS no tables

Just looked at the attendance part of CMIS to find some new attendance codes added to the catergories tab, only to find some missing too! Quick call to our support team for CMIS (local LEA) tells me that the attendance catergories are now hard coded into CMIS (seems to make sense since you could make a family holiday appear as practically anything, to keep your absences down) but you'd think theyd remeber to keep exclusion in the list wouldnt you. Think Z and E are the main two missing from the list although E will appear when an exclusion is added under the inclusions tab in student views. Working on a fix apparently!! "What", i hear you say "another fix!".

I know theres adobe professional to edit PDF's but was just wondering if there is any open source software out there that can do this, like PDF creator? any clues and recommendations would be nice

I was wondering if there was some kind of file audit program for windows that will show the true file creation date? Have a number of files to look at for SLT which i need to be able to show the true creation date of for? first of all how accurate can i be? If a user sets the date as 1st of December 2001 today and creates a file that is obviously the creation date? even if it is the 4th sept 2006? Has anyone come across this problem before? Dan

I currently work in a school as an IT technician. We currently have 1 (me) IT technician and a assitant network manager and network manager. The assistant is leaving, and i feel i should definatly apply for the job. I have bee n have for around 2 and half years and feel i know the school system really well and have gained alot of experience. I have no formal qualifications although i have attended a 5 day training course CompTIA A+ but as of yeat have not completed the exam. Can anyone give me any tips or links to personal statements that i can look at, its a simple application form, with additional space reserved for other information in support of your application. I basically learn everything in a practical situation, knowing something instantly when shown and i can quickly build on very basic instructions to convey complicated operations.
