The more they know the more likely they are to "mess" and cause problems. We already have kids remove network cables and RAM. I understand that it would be nice to educate about the cost and fragile-ness of the components, but remember these are kids. 14yr old pulling components out of a machine because a litte knowledge is a powerful thing

the less the "kids" know about the machines the better, the more they know the more hassle it will be for us. A number of our year 11's asked if they could do work experience with us but due to health and safety and confidentitality we decided against.

would you believe that the exam board for the media studies course here, actually requires production on video as in VHS not dvd or digital media!! thats how we get round it lol

I need to install Urdu on about 50 machines but i dont want to have to go to each machine to install it, i need to enable complex and script lanuages on xp and put the xp cd in to install extra fonts and dll's, then run an MSI to install the phonetic keyboard then add it to the laguage settings - it would also seem i need to add the language as each users, as i can see the langauge as admin but when i log on as a student user i dont see the language. Plus i need to add a font? any ideas> or anyone done this before? Dan

we upgraded about a week ago and no problems so far, but we did have a problem with attendance about 3 months ago - similar fix required to that in your email.

do RM allow ip address?

we like ghost multicast, i know like you said its manual entry of computernames but how long does it take really, we've just imaged a whole room, installed all software and named them? total time for 25 computers 35 mintues, thats ok isnt it?

what proxy do u use? eduproxy.bgfl.org?

it seems to be a problem that occured when changing the computer name. It was changed to F9-05 but still shows Itoff-01 for instance!?

its a local user account it wont accept

I renamed a computer the other day, for instance from itoff-01 to F9-05 but it didnt seem to go all that well when i rebooted i cud no longer log in, this is locally not on the netwrok, i presume my logon credentials havent been updated? but does anyone know a way i can rectify this without imaging the machine?

we bought quizdom off them, impressed with the service, we had to rearrange appointment after appointment but that was our fault. Luckily the salesman we had on our patch had to pass our school on the way home so it was ideal for us and for him, mabye we were just lucky, no probs so far! touch wood

Students are given a letter to copmplete to either agree or disagree to there picture being taken at any point within school or on school trips, there is also one for parents, student may not mind his picture being included for instance on the school website but parents may do. we currently have around 5 students who are not allowed to have there picture taken or published in anyway. Also some child protection issues may restrict what photos can be published or taken. We usually run any publication including photos past the head of child protection. I also know of one school with a similar system where there personla area had "personl" photos in it, not nudity but showed him smoking and drinking arms around girls that kind of thing a student saw them on his area while logged on in a classroom, went back to parents and rest of the school blah blah - can get complicated.

anyone got a anit bulling screensaver, apparently a school somewhere has one which ofsted praised for its use in IT labs, cant seem to find any kind of official one just wondred if anyone else has any idea? or been involved in any kind of anti-bulying scheme? Dan

Im just creating out school website, a number of departments have videos of classes and performances that thewy have filmed. As you can imagine they are quite large even as mpeg, around 100MB, ive tried breaking them down into 10 minute sections, but does anyone know of a way i can upload the 100mb and let it stream download??
