  1. I've been reading up on DeployStudio recently. I vaguely remember there being an option to restrict what clients can boot the NetBoot image. I think it can be restricted by Serial or MAC address. I know Service Centres are supposed to set the serial to the original when they replace a motherboard, but I don't know about the MAC address. The other thing I could think of is that the NetBoot image might have been made on older hardware? I believe you are supposed to make your boot images on your newest available hardware. Hope that helps in some way, even if it gives you an "A-Ha" moment.
  2. I loved the Symbian OS. Does anyone remember the 3650 though? What were Nokia thinking with the keypad

  4. I have been looking at this recently and I have been very impressed with it. I have also had a play with Avahi to enable airplay when iPads are on seperate VLANs to the PCs that Airserver is running on.
  5. That's fantastic for you, congratulations. If you could sort a copy out for me that would be great, I don't suppose you have a job description for your new role do you?
  6. I know this thread is from a long time ago, but I was wondering if any of you would be able to help. Over the last year or so I have been managing the networks of 6 of our feeder primary schools. I have been given a "Project Allowance" on top of my usual pay for this, but I am looking to get all of my duties bundled into one job title. So I have been asked to find some job descriptions for similar positions, but I am struggling to find any if I am honest. It has been suggested I look for either job descriptions of someone managing the networks of several primary schools or a small secondary school. If any of you have any of your job descriptions handy or could suggest where I could look for some that would be great. Thanks in advance
  7. Trust you Sted lol Are you going mate?
  8. I don't know if this has been asked before, or if it is even possible. But I have been asked to find a way to turn off all of our Plasma TVs from a central location within the school. The request has been prompted by today being an inset day when there is no-one in school but the TVs were still turned on by the built in timer. We have 7 TVs located in 3 separate buildings within the school. All the TVs are Samsung PS42A457's. I was thinking something along the lines of putting an IR repeater on each of the TVs, that could be controlled over IP, to turn each TV onto standby (We can't turn the TVs off at the mains as they lose all of their timer information when we do this for some strange reason) So I would be really grateful if anyone has any solutions that they could recommend or an idea of how this could be achieved. Obviously the cheaper the better, but if a cheaper solution may be temperamental I would prefer to spend a bit more. Thanks in advance. Ben
  9. Mine was 1gb last year
  10. Whenever i've had problems with my Unifi-35 it's always been the lamp. The life on them is absolutely diabolical. I have encountered the problem with the projector turning on for short periods of time and then randomly turning itself off. If you have another in your school, swap the lamps and see if the symptoms follow the lamp around. I've had enough of mine, like I've said the lamp life is shocking, the colours are terrible. The integrated projectors were much better when 3M provided them, without Smart messing about with their firmware.
  11. So as everyone loves a good freebie I thought it would be good to have a thread devoted to what you have got and from where. That way everyone can get in on a bit of the freebie action. So what is the best freebie you have got from BETT this year and what stand did you get it from. I will try to correlate a list from everyones responses, with what freebies are available and from where. I hope this will be of use to people
  12. I'm going on the Saturday. Was trying to get down on the Friday too, but it turned out I couldn't wangle it off lol

  14. Sat waiting for Chris' presentation. Make it good. I have to say the food actually has been really good.
  15. Have a go at taking it apart. Myself and one of my technicians took one apart the other week. It looks daunting at first, but it isn't that bad once you are inside (there is suprisingly alot of room). Just think of it as a laptop with more room to work inside. Good luck.
  16. See you all this morning. About to set off from Macclesfield in 10-15mins. Oh the fun of early mornings
  17. Just having a go at fixing the problem now. I have checked the printer driver and installed a PCL5 driver, the printer is set as default. Enabled macros in Excel (it is actually Office XP not 2003 like I initially thought.) I'm just going to reinstall SIMS now as these haven't resolved the issue.
  18. I haven't tried reinstalling SIMS no, from subsequent reading it seems like that solves the majority of problems within the software. Would it be best to uninstall and then install? Or is there a reinstall option that will work to fix the issue? Sorry for the n00b questions, as I say I am new to SIMS so am still learning. I'm tempted by the total uninstall though to be honest. I will try that on Tuesday when I next visit the primary school and I will update you all with the progress.
  19. Office 2003 is installed on the computer yes, including Excel.
  20. Hi Guys, I have recently started supporting a local primary school which uses SIMS as their MIS, the problem being that I don't have any experiance with it, the only MIS I have a vague experiance with is CMIS. So I am asking for help/guidance for fixing the following issue:- Basically the user will log into SIMS, open up their markbook. Select Zoom Press Print and then Print Preview. This then brings up an error. "2144-6090-5900 Object reference not set to an instance of an object: System.NullReferenceException" I have exported the XML of the error which reads:- - 2144-6090-5900 Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at SIMS.Processes.ExternalApplication.SetupExcel() at SIMS.Processes.ASMMarksheetDetail.ExportMarksheetForPreview(String strFileName, Boolean formatted, String supervisorName) at SIMS.Processes.ASMMarksheetDetail.PrintPreviewMarksheet(Boolean print, Boolean landScape) at SIMS.UserInterfaces.ASMDlgMarksheetPrint.buttonPrintPreview_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mevent) at NETXP.Controls.XPButton.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ButtonBase.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam) PerformanceBaseProcesses Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ben
