Have you checked "SQL server network config" in "sql server config manager" and checked TCP/IP is enabled?

I had a similar issue. Changing the mapping to the fqdn resolved it for me. Eg if mapped as \\printserver\printer they would not always map, changing it to \\printserver.local\printer resolved it.

Firewall? Sql service all running ok? Can you login to sims directly on server still?

Sophos antivirus has a webfiltering option built in. You can enhance this further if you have a sophos utm as you can sync your blocklist down to the clients av install for offsite filtering matching your onsite filtering

I had one once, just put the phone on the side and told them i was waiting for my pc to boot up. Just left them as long as i could pretending to wait for a computer to boot up. Said i was glad they called as it is running very slow and must have a virus. Think it was about 15-20mins until they realised i was a time waster and had a go at me for wasting their time!

Is this affecting one server or all servers? I take it you have checked there is nothing being inherited causing the issue? Have you disabled inheritance on one directory to see if you can then change read-only? What happens if you move a file to another location ?(usb drive or unaffected server)

No, we use ssd's in internal server storage, raided. The vm's are then striped across the 3 servers

Yeah we did look at a solution like that. Cant remember the exact reason why we decided against it as it was a few years back. Possibly as we was doing core switching at same time we got huge discount on hp bid pricing on whole solution and cost to spec worked out better with the solution we went for

I looked into this when i was doing a server refresh. I didn't like the idea of having a single pint of failure. If the san backplane was to go or a dodgy firmware update was applied the whole network would be down. Failover san worked out to costly for the small chance it will be needed. I decided to go for 3 servers with ssd storage and server replication between all 3. This way we can have a server go down and still function

As IanT said, bmr uses windows backup to do a system backup locally, this is then transferred to dpm server. The size required depends on what is installed on the server. Try moving the location of the local bmr backup to another drive. Edit the program files\microsoft data protection manager\dpm\datasources\psdatasourceconfig.xml and change the %systemdrive% variable to another drive

I struggled with ruckus acls for ages. Even when i applied a completely blank acl with all set to allow it was still causing issues. I ended moving the acls to the core switch for the byod vlan and all worked 1st time, and just as secure

This is a mandatory profile. It is a read only profile which has been preconfigured. All users profiles then point at this location. Anything not saved to their home drives is lost unless folder redirection is done for that location

If they only have access to rdp to a local vm without network access, how would the students transfer their work on and off the vm so they can continue to work on it else where and to back it up?

Below is how i run it; 1,Use a separate file screen for students who need vb to allow exes from home drive. Exes disabled for all other students. 2, use software restriction policy to disable exes from all other areas. (Usb, desktop, profile etc) 3, use sophos av and application restriction to stop students running malicious or unapproved exes ( hacking tools, chat programs, portable browsers etc) 4, use Acls and port isolation on switches to stop computer to computer communication at desktop level. If you run vm software locally, i cant think how you would stop them booting from iso's and adding network access. Very insecure If you remotely host vm, and rdp to it you would need to give vm network access for rdp to work and to be able to transfer their work on and off vm. Both the vm solutions give the students an unrestricted, unprotected, unmonitored computer attached to your network.

If you give them a vm will it have network / internet access? If not, how would you disable them from controlling the vm properties and adding this? that means that the students have an unmanaged/unmonitored network attached computer with local admin access.

We have different file screens for students who use visual studio, allowing only them to run exes. We use sophos application control running stopping them from using any malicious exes or utilities.

Are you running it under sudo?

If this was the case, i don't think it would boot to windows repair. It would try and boot to another device or say "insert system disk".

Was the USB drive inserted at boot? windows repair cant pick it up as plug and play, the drive will need to be inserted when windows repair mode is launched

We use an apc netbotz 355. Does temperature, dewpoint, humidity, high res camera, email alerts and logging What do you do out of hours? Over the years our air con has only ever had a wobbler out of hours causing the temperature to rise pretty quickly
