!!!! Wow. I don't think I've ever won anything more than 2 pounds on the lottery!

Microsoft Classroom and office 365 group creation
swiftv replied to swiftv's topic in Cloud Services
Bad times. I'm trying to work out the areas of 365 behaviour that I can lock down. I'm slightly miffed that I can't even hide groups effectively "in the roadmap" apparently. This while environment could be brilliant. So many things overlooked for education though. -
I'm wanting to reduce the availability of group creation down to global admin and a few others. Can do this with a bit of powershell wrangling. What I need to know is, if I turn off group creation, will it break the group creation in MS Classroom which uses the same group structure. Anyone tested this before I dive in?

I'm assuming end portals have no relevance then :-) I have nightmares of pupils mass spawning then incinerating sheep and the HM walking in and asking "So, that's interesting, what are you learning here?" Just waiting for download... Interesting to note that this must be a first for co-releasing an MS product on Mac and PC together. I noted MS was even demoing Sharepoint futures on Mac first last month. Crikey.

Don't get me started on Sync. I'm signed up for preview, but it's all a bit slow. It's been an issue for a while. Our delays were long before the price drop or any mention of the pen deal. This is more endemic to the MS supply chain. I can live with it, if I'm aware of it. It was the lack of transparency that I had issue with. Poor supplier caught in the middle.

I'm pushing Onenote and 365 heavily to staff, I love it. It just happens that it works really nicely on the iPad as well, so I'm sat on a fence with regard to device choice.

I see there's some volume going out. Might explain why MS struggled to give us a transparent delivery date. What's the slickest way to deploy these things?

Woop. Forgot to look back there. Never got past the "be patient" message.

Scratch that. Just checked. No to bulk. Microsoft may release API at some point, but for the foreseeable, we're on individual lookup. Probably quicker to throw up a quick google survey!

You can get this info in the 365 admin user dashboard, by individual user. That probably means there's a powershell way to bulk harvest the info. The individual user installations will show you which software and on what device, and you can deactivate installations too.

We've just splashed on 20 x Surface 3 for a specific use, and are considering future iPad/Surface 3 decisions across the site. The Surface has not impressed me as much as I'd hoped based on a week's living with it. Initial tests were good, but as we've been tinkering it's proving more troublesome than I expected. I have been badgering MS to give me some references for deployment, but I'm sure I'm getting a fairly sanitised selection. Who out there is deploying Surface at the moment? What are the niggles? How are they fairing with battery life, breakage and has anyone used them and iPads and has an opinion one over the other? And lastly, how young are people deploying Surface to? I am familiar with iPad and well versed in the ups and downs. Just need a balanced view on Surface.
