Avast. Used to run XP 64-bit and for the longest time Avast was the only decent option.

When ever there’s a horse in a field people cannot catch I seem to be the one to get sent in. Got a bit of a reputation of catching horses no one else can get via horse whispering. Also got a few scars from it.

If your edict is anything like our Edit in Nottinghamshire I can believe that type of price. I take it Edict is like Edit and you don’t need 3 quotes either? When we got a quote from edit they wanted to change half the work stations with a very high minimum spec, change the wireless points and rewire the cabling so all the cables go directly to the main cabinet without switched around the building. The price also covers online backup at least it did for us. They also said it would be a 10day install.

“Actually to be a teacher you do have to be qualified.” I know you do for the job teacher. But surly you don’t have to be qualified to do some teaching? What about unqualified TA’s? You don’t class them as none teaching. I guess it’s all down to definitions and which LEA you are in. I don’t have a problem in my school or the Notts LEA as all staff seem to be treated pretty much equal there is no us and them in the schools I have been in, thankfully. I would hate to be in a school where teachers are above the support staff. “it's part of the job and certainly doesn't make me a teacher.” Sure I agree it doesn’t make you a teacher but surly your teaching while you training those people so your not fully none teaching staff. Is there a set definition what makes you teaching staff or not thats the same for all LEA’s? Not that it really matters as it doesn’t change the job, pay or anything really it’s just a term.

“Are you a qualified teacher?” No at least not in the way you mean which is why I don’t do lessons plans or take full class’s. Surely you don’t have to be a qualified teacher to teach at some point in your job? When a new software package comes in or hardware it normally falls down to the IT techs to teach everyone how to use it. It’s not enough to say we should be classed as teaching staff but it’s enough to mean we shouldn’t be classed as none teaching. Support staff is a much better term.

It’s very offensive some of us do classroom support and teach small groups. We also teach staff during and after school. I have a number of teachers who are booked in for regular lessons on IT related stuff. EDIT: You could play devils advocate and next time a teacher or kid asks you to show them something say sorry I am 'NON TEACHING'. I cannot teach you.

He already bought me 1 licence to learn it and although I told him its not ready yet its going get hard to come up with a reason not to buy a Vista PC in 7 to 8 months time. We won’t role it out everywhere at once only new PC’s from the end of this year will be bought with Vista on. I don’t see the point in waiting for SP1 its already stable and fast the only thing holding it back are a few drivers that could be improved. Once drivers get a little better it will be time to start phasing in Vista. Most likely not on the network but as a few standalone PC’s to see how the children and staff react to it.

“Have many people actually upgraded to vista on a permanent basis yet?” Getting very tempted to at home but still dual booting back to win 64-bit. The main reason is the interface is odd and I keep getting lost. I have a few habits like using the up button but there is none in Vista. Once I learn the interface along with 1 or 2 more driver updates and I think I will be swapping to Vista and only booting in win 64-bit for the odd occasion. As for work I don’t plan on getting Vista until next year or late this year at the earliest.

Most of those are not to annoying. What is annoying is you cannot turn of Cleartype which makes fonts blurred on a CRT. Well you can turn of Cleartype for some text just not everything.

Nothing wrong with Horse riding I do it to. It’s great you can gallop around in the middle of no where. No technology you can just switch off and relax. Horse's are way better then children.

Job security and a good pension are high on the list not worried about BSF. Great hours and holidays which for me is the same as teachers, not a chance I will be in school on the 6 weeks holidays. That added with a large range of technology and challenges what’s not to like about the job? They even let me go on trips with the children already been horse riding 6 times this year. Wages might not be the best but I will take happy over high wages any day.

Starting to worry a little here as we are open and most of our pupils have school provided transport. Late transport means a late working day. Someone has to stay behind while waiting for the transport that’s stuck in snow or traffic. With a bit of luck the tranport will leave early and get here on time.

Are there any petitions for them? You seem to always hear about the people against them but the people who are happy dont make a fuss about it. I guess its like most things the unhappy foke are always more vocal.

I got a little confused after reading some comments and think I ticked the wrong box. I thought full time was when you worked like teachers and got the holidays off. Yet some of the comments sound like full time and you work in holidays. Also thought Team time was when you work term time but didn’t get holidays off or paid for them.

We still have a handful as for the why well money and there are better things to spend it on. The few win98 computers do the job fine and there is little reason to upgrade. Saying that I plan to get rid of all the win98 computers in classrooms before the years out. It’s taken me until now to almost get rid of all the Acorns. Still 3 left one of which the teacher finely said she would get rid of this year. The careers and library computers will be more tricky as they don’t come out the IT budget. I don’t see either being upgraded for a long time.

We just got our first real server but I cannot find anywhere in the documentation about how to import users from win serv 2003 to another win serv 2003. Is there any easy way short of typing all the usernames out again? The old server is a workstation running the server OS so its going to get coverted back to XP.

Eve Online D&D Online NeverwinterNights 2 LAN Not really online but I am always up for multiplayer game of Worms 1 or 2 at work. Normally on a Playstation or Dreamcast.

If it does can cancelled I can see some angry letters for some schools. I know place’s that have spent £1000(s) on hardware they don’t need to be ready for the test only now it might not be needed? On the plus side it was a good reason to get a server here which I can now use for other things.

I clean everything my self sometimes with a child to help. I don’t like the idea of teachers cleaning a computer and the cleaners don’t dare go near the things. Even the Interactivewhite boards are my job but its not much of a problem being a small school.

”Also RM solution is about time saving yes pay extra but to be honest got better things to do with my time then design a vanilla network system.” I have mixed views on RM and use RM a lot and from the children and staff point of view it’s great which is why I use it. But from an IT tech point of view it’s a pain to use and slow on the other hand the software package is good. Lots of software that should work doesn’t due to the changes made by RM and when problems turn up they can be a pain to fix. Saying that RM support is very good they have always responded fast and fixed the problem. The ks3 software was a right mess there was no thought was so ever for special needs schools. Some of the things they said to us where impossible to implant and some of the ideas like take the children down to a local school for a test clearly shows they had no one who’s experience in special schools working on the project.

Don’t have IE 7 on my PC with the problem. What I did notice on my PC it seems to be something to do with leaveing it for a while and the screen saver kicks in with the password option to unlock. Then if someone press’s the power button to turn off you get the problem in the first post.
