There is no group / user account requirement on the one I'm looking at - released June 2015. I can't post all of the details publically but it requires investigating commands such as ifconfig, traceroute and top so nothing which requires the state to be preserved between each sessions although it would be nice from an educational point of view.

Hello, I've been looking at the forthcoming Linux controlled assessment from OCR and one solution I have heard of is providing students with the ability to log in to a virtual machine to conduct the Linux tasks. We run mainly Window 7 clients and I don't want to to g down the raspberry pi or Linux on a memory stick route. I'm looking to make contact with a school which has had success in this area so we can ascertain whether this would be a viable solution for us. Thanks Darren.

The kids are getting older and increasingly playing on games and browsing the web. The missus wants her laptop back (I'm not daft enough to install their stuff on my laptop ) so she has dug out an old G3 from the loft. Specs are: G3 400 MHz 192 RAM 10.3.9 OS x 10 Gig HDD My questions are is it worth upgrading anything on it to get it running sweeter and, if so, what can be upgraded? (I know diddly squat about mac hardware). Minimum it needs is wireless if that is possible! The geek in me would like to save it Thanks

Excellent, thanks for all of them. I shall investigate them all. Does Time Machine backup to a normal shared drive on a mac over wireless? Reading Around apple are a little vague about this. Presumably because they want you to get a Time Capsule.

Hello, I am looking to backup photos, itunes, movies and the like from 2 macs at home (1 leopard and 1 tiger). I also want to to backup a couple of vista laptops whilst I am on. 500 gig should do it but 1tb would obviously be better. I am currently favouring getting another disk for the mac mini but would like some software on the macs and windows machine to make it all effortless. Can anyone recommend a solution? Thanks

Hello There is an invisible link to the homepage on the main site banner (top left and appears to be a hyperlink using /templates/eg_default1.5/images/blank.gif). How do I resize and move this? Also, I wish to have 2 so how would I make a copy of this to go underneath it? I can't find it anywhere in joomla so I am assuming it is hard coded. Thanks Darren

I guess the downsides would be if you loose the internet you loose the VLE and also kids managing 2 logins but everything else makes good sense. Does anyone have any ballpark ideas of their costing structure? Thanks

Hello I have been playing with the 1.5 package but need to put more menu options on. When I do they wrap to another line. Is there a way I can reduce the padding around the text in the menu so I can create more space? Thanks

Hello I would like to remove a whole load of headers / footers from Word. All googling seems to lead back to this site:sobolsoft This will only do 1 file at a time unless you pay 20 bucks. I don't mind that so much if I have to but is there a free one before I pay? Also, free mass adding of headers and footers would also be good. Darren

Finally had time to look at this again. Thanks for the advice but the iPhone didn't like it either so the solution was to upgrade the router software and change to WPA. Darren

Hello I am an IT teacher and would quite like to know when the little angels are sending emails behind my back rather than working. Unfortunately the layout of the computers in school mean you cannot see more than a few computer screens at a time so no matter how vigilant I am it is easily done. I am not looking to snoop at the content but a live(ish) log of emails being sent would be great so I can just scan for names in my class and deal with them appropriately. Does such a thing exist for exchange? Ta Darren

Like this or are these just for putting drives in to attach to a nas??? I was looking at that one from PC world first but it has it's own software installed and will not share certain files. I just want to use it for backing up 2 macs and 3 windows laptops and the ICY box may do the trick. It would appear there are a few options but I can't see a firewire version? I have a few external hard disks lying around. Would I just plug them in to that and they would appear as a shared drive on my network (after I have shared them on the NAS) Darren

I have been after an iphone for about 2 years before they existed! The new features and the potential the SDK brings means I am now shy of about 320 quid and am a very happy bunny :-) Is anyone using these on the school network? I want to ditch the PDA and have a couple of things that would like to iron out to make things a touch smoother. It connects fine but I have to enter my login details everytime I start safari(server\username then password) even though I specified them in the wifi proxy bit. It says I need to enter them to connect to the secure website. This is a bit long. I can't find a 'remember my password' type button. This is the only pain. I can't access gmail from within work. Presumably the mail client is not looking at the proxy settings (??). Exchange works through IMAP. Oh, did they every sort out copy / paste or not? Can't find it. Ta Darren

Does anyone have a ball park figure cost for Fronter? We are a school of about 1500 and this is one of the VLEs that I am looking at. Also I would be interested what features it provides that others don't or why people feel it is better (user interface and so on). Thanks
