I just checked and the physical port pointing to the virtual switch doesn't have IPv4 or v6 enabled. So if I team 2 physical nics and allocate these to the virtual switch then that should be fine for all VMs to connect through the one virtual switch?

We only use local storage for the VMs no SCSI. I was just wondering if all the VMs used the same virtual switch would it cause any issues with speed even if it was teamed?

If I have a HyperV host with 6 physical network connections and I want it to host SIMS VM, SAGE VM and at least 2 others. Should I be using one physical network connection for the management and creating 4 virtual switches, 1 for each of the VMs? So that each VM has a dedicated physical network port on the server?

There seems to be lots of info about how you can use music in schools but I haven't found anything in black and white which states that you have to own an original copy of the music in the first place before you can utilise it, ie the 20 second clip in the course work.

In order for the students to use 20 seconds of audio from an mp3 do they or the school have to own a copy of it in the first place? I use spotify for all my music so never been tempted to download mp3s but I am guessing that all these sites that allow you to download commercial hits without charge are illegal?

So I am guessing that when they use mp3vip.org to download we haven't got a copyright licence to allow them to do it.

Is there a limit set for the length of an audio clip that is permissible? If they are allowed to use 20 second clips then can they still download the entire track but only use 20 seconds of it? I haven't even started at looking at the sites they are using to download these MP3s.

They don't have quotas because depending on which subjects they do they need different levels of space. Its the illegality of downloading and keeping such huge amounts of music that gets me. We are told they need some tracks for their coursework but not that many!

How do you control MP3s on your network? We are told students need access to MP3s for their coursework. They seem to download them from various sites but a lot of students are using this as an excuse to build up quite a collection in their home drives and take up lots of space.

I think its the way you set up your connect.ini file. You can point to 2 different databases. I don't think you can have 2 different versions of the client on the same machine. You might want to try running one in a VM?

@timbo343 How do Departments cope with such small quotas? Video seems to be the in the thing here with nearly every department having some kind of student made videos saved. We have PE using 418GB of mostly video, followed by Science with 100GB. How would you bring this down? They cant delete the videos, moving to external drives isn't the answer as then the videos wont be in the right place along with the other resources. Space isn't really the issue, its the backups. With over 5TBs of data on the file server it takes days to backup it all up. We tend to do full backups each half term using robocopy. it just takes too long!
