Is it true that MDT is not officially supported to deploy Windows 11? I have read this in several places now.

Well the DHCP server for the phone VLAN is in the same subnet as the phones. There is a separate DHCP server for the Data VLAN.

I don't have access to the Router (Cisco) as it belongs to the Broadband provider. I wont have access to the Phone suppliers Router either when it is installed. At the moment the phone VLAN has its own DHCP server (legacy as it was part of the old Admin Network, years ago). Where would the DHCP helper details go if we only have Layer 2 switches and no access to the Routers?

Currently have 2 VLANS, one for phones and one for data. All switches on site are layer 2. Both VLANS are connected to the ISP router on different ports which does layer 3 routing. The plan is to get a dedicated line in for the phones controlled by the phone supplier. The phone supplier is giving us a router for their line. Is it just a matter of pointing the phone VLAN default gateway to the new router? Removing the cable from the ISP router for the phone VLAN? I know I may need to change the DHCP scope for the phone VLAN subnet but is it that simple?

The HyperV host is not old. It's the VM I'm talking about.

It does have 2 drives!! I never set it up so I never really looked. So if I detach the 2nd hard drive from the 2008 R2 VM and I create a new VM for Server 2016 and attach it to that everything should work as before? It sounds logical to me. Thank you!

I look after a Primary School that has a single Server acting as a HyperV host which has a virtual file server and virtual DC that are currently on 2008 R2. I need to upgrade these to Server 2016. The File server and all its data reside in the VM. There is not enough space on the HyperV host to create a new VM and then transfer that data over and the School cannot afford to buy another server. The HyperV host has enough space to create a new DC so that should be ok but, I know it's not recommended, could I do an in-place upgrade of the 2008 R2 file server to 2016? I feel I have no other option at the moment.

I had it working when the phones and the server were in the same VLAN. I now have the phones moved over to a voice VLAN but they wont see the server which is still on the main VLAN. I can ping the phones from the server but they wont connect. This is why I wanted to move the server over into the same VLAN. In your case the server and phones are in different VLANS but still work. Not sure where I have gone wrong.

@mdrabble - I hope you can help me. I am trying to install 3CX on a VM in a VLAN using Hyper-V (I am hoping you are using Hyper-V). Have never used VMs with any other VLAN except our main Data VLAN. How did you set the Server up as a VM to sit in a particular VLAN please?

Yes I have added the VLAN to the virtual machine and not on the host itself. I have also tagged VLAN20 on the switch port that the physical host connects to on the physical NIC that is mapped to the Virtual Switch that the VM connects to.

I am trying to utilise VLANS with Hyper-V. I have a virtual server that sits with a static IP address in VLAN20. I want to set this up as a 3CX server. I want it to talk to phones that also sit in VLAN20 I have successfully added the phones to VLAN20 by tagging the relevant ports on the relevant switches. The phone get an IP address in VLAN20. Does anyone know how I would set this up in HyperV? I have tried going into VM>Settings>Network Adaptor and enabling VLAN ID to 20 but this doesnt seem to give any connectivity. The physical host sits in VLAN10 which is our main Data VLAN. Anyone know how to do this please?

So I have a server which is acting as a HyperV host. It has 4 physical network ports. These are aggregated together on the Server to form a Server Team.These cables go into an SG300 Cisco switch. On the Switch side we use VLAN 2 for VOIP/Door entry and VLAN3 for DATA. The 4 cables from the Server go into the Switch at ports 21-24. These are marked as Administrative PVID 1. Can someone explain what PVID 1 is and how the server communicates on VLAN 3? It works, I just want to understand how. Currently all the VMs in the HyperV host reside on VLAN 3. I want to create a new VM but want it to be on VLAN2. How would I achieve this? Do i need to do something on the switch or just in HyperV to allocate the VLAN ID?

Excuse my ignorance but if 16 pointers point to the 17th version of the file then is it possible for someone to delete the 17th and then all the pointers are useless? In very simple terms UserA has the file UserB has the file With Dedup both files point to 1 copy UserA decides he doesnt need the file anymore and deletes it. Is it still there for UserB?

We have around 8TB of data and using Treesize I can see quite a bit of duplication. Can someone explain Deduplication in simple terms please? Is it to reduce the size of backups or to recoup Storage space on your File Server?

Well I decided to purchase a Synology DS218+ with 2 x 1TB Iron Wolf drives. Arrives today so will see how I get on with that.

So I looked at loading Plex onto the NAS but as the NAS is quite old Plex doesn't support it anymore and older versions are no longer available on their site. I have decided to upgrade the NAS to a Synology Box. I can get a Synology DS218+ with 2x1TB Iron Wolf drives for £406 (have some vouchers usable on Amazon) so cash wise will cost me less than that. Supposedly the DS218+ can transcode on the fly so this should help with playing video on different devices. Any thoughts on the DS218+?

So no real way of having the NAS play HD videos directly to the tv without buffering?

Explain where Plex would sit please? Installed on NAS?
