Over the summer we installed the Adobe CS4 Master Suite, which is ace, fantastic, powerful, flexible and exciting to use . However, it isn't exactly the same as the Macromedia MX2004 stuff it replaced. This is causing some issues for our ICT teaching staff, whose worksheets and lesson plans now don't fit . In a bid to placate them I am installing MX2004 alongside CS4, which is fine as we are licenced for both. But obviously this is not an ideal situation. So I am looking at getting in some training; I am in contact with training companies, but feel that while they are great at providing training in how to use the software, what we need more is how to use the software effectively in the classroom. Are you aware of anyone out there using Dreamweaver/Flash CS4 well or innovatively in the classroom? Do you think they could be persuaded to visit the Lake District for a day? We would pay obviously unless the school wants to get involved in some form of exchange of ideas (OfSTED love this ). I know teachers tend to get a bashing on here but there are a lot of good ones out there and in terms of ICT skills, then if a tech tells me they are a good ICT teacher then I am likely to listen. Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you run SIMSperm.bat on the offending machine, this sets all of the relevant permissions needed for the logged in user to run the upgrade.

This has only stopped happening to me now that I have moved to a new server. Should have spoken to Capita about it but, frankly I just couldn't face the helpdesk hassle. Didn't stop anything working so just put up with it.

We have a requirement for a laptop for a disabled student. Does anyone know of a lightweight, resonably large screen/keyboard and high spec laptop for about £2000? Not a Macbook Air though.

Now that would have been good to know, but we only have a 32bit install of SQL2005 which seemed to cause problems. Will attack 2K8 64 bit (again) tomorrow with your instructions and see how we get on.

CD arrived from Capita and have now installed on Win 2k8, which has been someting of a learning experience. I have a question about permissions on the SIMS share. Should this be full control for the necessary users (as some of the software allows you to write back, nova, exams, plasc, etc) or should I try to hide the contents from users view. Or should I utilise some more complex set of permissions.

@ Matt40k How do you get a clean setups folder, I have just copied the rather full one from my current server. I pulled the June .iso down but it only contains updates, no SIMSInst file. Is it a case of deleting all of the update files and just using the file I currently have? LA support are saying this is a chargeable service and refusing to provide any help. Skunk

I have never heard SLG described as "Cheap", chearful perhaps but never cheap.

I have to say that I backup SQL and then restart the SQL instance before I apply any patches or upgrades. This removes all of the users attached to the DB nicely and allows for a nice clean upgrade.

Do the All-in-One machines from SCL have adjustable height screens? Not an absolute requierment for our systems, but definately a nice to have.

A Y10 student was showing me his iPhone yesterday and it looked just like the frog screenshot there. I think ths students would like it and I dare say the staff may actually be able to use it as well. Big colourful buttons - Check Silly Name - Check What more could you ask for.

SIMS here. The most annoying thing is the Dept for Comedy and Science Fiction imposing rediculous "statutory requirements for data" on the development team. Which means they can never spend any time on making the thing work well for end users.
