A true eccentric, but he was another like Johnny Morris and (fortunately still with us) John Craven who had the knack of talking to kids without talking down to them, and still making what they had to say relevant and interesting. Egg Race was one of my 'must watch' programmes in the days of only three TV channels.

Used to have a Yamaha fretless bass -fantastic instrument, but not good enough to cover up how carp I was. Sold it on when baby son came along, and I realised that I hadn't had time to play it in well over a year...

Ah, but look at it this way; which device are they more likely to lose/destroy/ run out of battery and then complain to you that it's not working/ let the kids play with? -

Too late for this year, but have you considered emigration? -
There is poor timing. There is bad timing. And then there is that face-Palm-in-the staff room "oh, deity, what have I/ you just done...?"

Yay - parteeee! Can the bar hold all of edugeek - to say nothing of actually coping with a load of drunk techies? (Seriously - many thanks for invite!)

...true - but think of all those poor OCD maths professors who cannot drive past one of these signs without hyperventilating. Have you no heart ...? 😉🙄😄

Agreed - but, for the majority (IMO) of tech users - just your average joe, so not the esteemed inhabitants of this forum - that is what they want and need. They don't want to be fiddling around with the innards (ooh-er, matron!) of their computer every year, or struggling with software glitches, conflicts and half-thought-out upgrades. They don't want or need to go 'where and when they like', they just want it (to paraphrase) to work - to do what they need to do in they easiest way possible. And, most of the time, that's what Apple kit does. Yes, of course there are the 'shiny, shiny' fashion is king brigade, who fall for the advertising hype, but there are many others who are willing to pay the premium for a hassle-free tech experience. Just my opinion - no offence meant to anyone!

What do you call the fastest man in the swimming pool who has no arms and no legs? Clever Dick.

Of course - silly me! I was thinking that Action Man was American, but that was GI Joe.

Double Glazing Is Killing The Ice Cream Van As No-one Can Hear The Jingles
stevejp replied to 6Foot2's topic in General Chat
Don't believe this for a minute - my evidence? My 7-year-old can hear an ice cream van (along with the sirens of police cars, ambulances and fire engines) through double glazing, and beyond the range of normal human hearing - and he doesn't believe the one about the jingle meaning that they've run out of ice cream, either! -

Ok, now I've worked out where you work () yes, I would hate[b[/b] to live in those ones at Merry Hill! Guessing the top floor of Medusa might not be too noisy, but the lower floors - no thanks! -

I know parts of Stourbridge aren't what you'd call picturesque (I'm assuming you're referring to Medusa House?) but to call it 'the armpit of the Black Country' is a bit harsh! (Must admit, I wouldn't buy one of those, although I could be tempted by the ones in the old library conversion!) -
