  1. I have the issue all the time. People assume I've forgotten to add .uk to my email address ending .co I've started capitalising it to make a point.... I need to track down the owner of the relevant .co.uk and apologise!! (Hopefully they don't have a catch-all turned on)
  2. We are on SWGfL and have this issue too. We're using Google Apps for Education. Users couldn't do the imap sync (or send via smtp) from the native iPad and iPhone mail apps, but the Gmail app works just fine. I think this has something to do with the fact that pretty much the only ports SWGfL DON'T block is 443 and 80. IMAP tends to use 993 or 143. Try contacting the service desk to get it unfiltered on your connection?
  3. I wonder how this will work with SSL traffic... Surely they can't do SSL interception (like RM Safety Net does). I agree that if they can adjust our [secure] traffic this way, what's to stop mobile operators from using those powers maliciously.
  4. I started off learning Windows Server, Active Directory and GPO using this series of videos A couple of years later and I now do setups and designs of Windows Environments for small businesses. Although it's recorded for 2008, it's all pretty much the same in 2012 - as long as you can find the 'Administrative Tools' folder, you're good to go
  5. Is there even a reason to permit Mp3 in a Home Drive? The only mp3s used in schools are usually by Music and Languages (MFL) departments so should be stored in their Shared Network Drive. I'd suggest using File Server Resource Manager (open it and click on File Screening Management) to ban executable files and mp3s.
  6. Server 2012 R2 (Datacentre). When doing Right Click > Properties on a folder... it takes several minutes to load (like... up to 10 minutes!) However, if I try and pull the properties of a regular file, it's almost instantaneous. Any ideas of a fix for this?
  7. Ooh such fun! Sending my thanks to @ZeroHour for organsing.
  8. Evening all: any progress on this?

    Mac Deployment :-/

We have a Mac Mini running El Capitan Apple OS X server. I have deployed 6 iMacs using the server... with 21 more to come. Currently, I'm using Open Directory on the mac Mini. E.g. Mac users have a separate login to their AD Creds... not ideal. I know you are able to join Macs to AD but I also want to be able to manage them using profile manager (so I can lock down system prefs and other things people might maliciously tamper with). I've read about the 'golden triangle' where AD handles auth and OD does profile provisioning but I'm slightly confused. How do the Active Directory users and groups actually get into the Profile manager website interface. Is there some kind of import/sync process. Also - how would I go about redirecting the home folders to the users home folder on the windows network. E.g. \\server1\users\john.doe ? I want users to be able to access their files from the Macs I use a Mac personally but have only got my simple OS X Server setup. Active Directory integration is a whole new ball game for me. Cheers!
  10. @DJ-1701 Kinda works like Ham(amateur) radio. We already have callsigns... our usernames! Could organise some kind of weekly event for some on topic discussions!
  11. Funny you should mention mimio. I looked at it about 5 years ago and it seemed like a nice neat solution. Where did you purchase yours from?
  12. I would be up for a Teamspeak server. Not just for the gaming chat but also for maybe some debate & chat regarding the technical forums.
  13. Coincidentally, I tested printing over a (Microsoft RRAS) L2TP VPN today. It was very easy to setup and works just fine. If your Terminal Server is offsite, you may be best off having it tunnel back to your onsite print server over VPN.
  14. If you're just getting started with Asterisk, I highly recommend this series of Youtube vids. I used these to teach myself FreePBX and now a very comprehensive system with lots of the bells and whistles (forward to mobile, time conditions etc). The guy who made them is currently in the process of updating them actually so you'll be getting good up to date information. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1fn6oC5ndU-a3GjSPsBo6rIP9kXOxI0k I use Aastra 480i handsets on my system. They integrate with FreePBX really well actually - visual voicemail & intercom buttons even work as they should! (Oh and I'm using sipgate.co.uk for SIP trunking into my system. There are guides online detailing how to setup a trunk from Sipgate in FreePBX)
  15. The client in question.
  16. Have setup group policies in my test environment to redirect the documents folder and then make it available offline. (Scenario is for laptops) Works fine on a Windows 7 client, however refuses to deploy to Windows 10 Pro even after many gpupdate /force attempts. Offline files policy deploys, however Folder Redirection won't! (Fast login optimisation is on - but even after logging of and on again the folders still aren't redirected.) Server is 2012 r2 Standard
  17. Then surely just a script which runs on log off to... a) empty downloads folder b) clear internet history ... would work? There may even be GPO options to do it already - never really looked into it.
  18. Thought this would be a good idea! I'll start the ball rolling - I met @elsiegee40 . Great to put a name to a face! Got my AFK badge too
  19. Was very excited when I read this. However as a friend of mine correctly pointed out.... what happens with a whole school of accounts?! 1000 profile images on the home page of each and every iPad Hopefully can be separated by class, year group etc
  20. We are currently looking into using the 'Chromebit' as a Digital signage solution. Currently we have some Mini PCs hooked up to our screens, pointed to a web page on a local web server which is updated with tweet information etc.... But Chromebit it both easier and cheaper! The Chromebit is in the same class as the Intel Compute Stick, I guess. It runs Chrome OS though ovbviously.

    #Tips4BETT

Putting this here as I can't see a better place (mods can move if needs be). Does anybody know whether Site-wide wifi will be provided at BETT? I don't pay for 3G and want to use the apps!
  22. Hello! This link is broken from my end. Would it be possible to reupload please? Thanks! Your other icons look fab!
