    Netgear or HP,

Sorry for not updating this thread soon. After alot of 'intense' meetings, SLT have chosen to spend the money on the hp kit. Just want to say a big thank you to all who posted!.

    Ultrabooks downgrade

Sorry, I've been very very very angry all damn day about our school network upgrade and the choice SLT have made and that tablets are more important that having a secure O/S. Now I just want to get back to what I like and that is fixing problems and doing random stuff on FROG. One problem at we have at the moment is that one of our subject leaders needs a computer room but there isn't space for one and I don't want the school paying out to re-kit a room with crap ISIS desks and more computers, all I really want to do (which I think is a bad idea) is a laptop trolley with thin laptops with good spec's and without cd drive and that why I thought Ultrabooks but I just really want a laptop without a cd drive so the kids can't break it and it not to be a netbook. Are there any options like that? it is important (annoyingly so) for it to be downgrade able to xp cause of current software. Once again sorry I'm still very very very angry and I hate being angry

    Ultrabooks downgrade

Yes I do, we currently are stuck on xp but there are plans to move to windows 7 by next summer, there is a reason why I want to do this but I don't want to get into details about (sorry if that sounds abit rude of me), I'm just wondering if there are such laptops that can be downgraded.
  6. Hi everyone, Are the any ultrabooks that can be downgraded to windows xp?, it just a thought for something and i've been looking around but nothing so far. I have a idea (yes it's a bad) of using a laptop trolley (told you it was bad!!) but I want something like a ultrabooks small powerful and no cd drive. Thanks Nit

    Netgear or HP,

Hi Everyone, big thank you to all of you that replied!!!!, trying to sell hp this to SLT is becoming a knightmare . if someone could help me write a technical spec of why HP kit is better then netgear kit? I know the joys of IRF and the hp management software but SLT don't care, if someone could say that these switches are better for x,y,z reason would be really great! and appreciated Thanks Nit

  9. Hi everyone hope i've posted this in the right place, but i'm not a switch guy and my knowledge isn't great by any means so i'm going to ask the question, if you had to choose between HP and netgear for your network which would you pick?
  10. Hi, I thought I would say hello again, haven't been on in many months mainly cause I could remember my login name (Jesus christ!! i'm getting old ), Nit the name ICT/frog vle in a school in nuneaton. and Hello
  11. hey everyone, I've took it upon myself to see what email solutions there are out there, Currently we don't control our email its all done at county level the gits even charge us £5 for a email new email address plus there calendar options are pretty poor. The boss she would love to have our own exchange server in house but we spending at of money at the moment on load of things so it might be out of the question. So i'm left with really google apps and Microsoft Live@edu, I'm liking google app as I use gmail as my own personal email and I love it but is it really 'free'? are there ad's? is the good control? (e.g not letting the kids to send out bound emails, monitor what they are sending each other?) can you create email lists? is it any good for schools? reliable (which county isn't sometimes)? And the same question free for Microsoft Live@edu, or should we just wait until we can afford our own exchange server? but personal i rather see us move away from county email ASAP to be honest. Any advice or opinion would be great Thanks Nit
  12. Hi Kim Sorry for not updating this been busy as hell over the last weeks, months and most of this year >.<. For us it turned out that were adm's left right and centre (one right at the the tree, one in student, one in teachers god knows how one of the adm's was right at the top of the tree) in out GPO which was causing the client32.ini to reset itself during login and cause of that it would lose connection. I remove the adm's in student and teacher and updated the adm that was in domain something something (sorry can't remember to save my life) which is right at the top of the tree and the problem resolved itself. Hope this makes some sense
  13. Hi everyone, I have a problem with netsupport v10.70.2, everytime I gain control of a pc and then login into the network with it (e.g logining in on a guest student account) it will disconnect, I can recconect to it but this is disconnecting on login is becoming really annoying. is there a fix for this?
  14. the whole 7 series of Knightmare on youtube!! watched it and got scared lol ohhh good old childhood but the last few 2 years of it you can see it was going down hill, first a change of helmet of justices and the cgi was really poor from 6 onwards, My personal fav was series 4.
  15. you lucky lucky person, i wish i had it on dvd
  16. I'm old enough just though!!! to remember STAR FLEET (aka xbomber)
  17. Well guys and girls I got a chance I thought to meet the recruiter for a school ict tecy in Birmingham, well it turned out it was just a big 'visit the school' event and there was loads of people interested in the position, I think a good 30 odd people turned up for it in fact someone i worked with at uni went to it and he only wants the job cause it 'easy' and that really pissed me off with him (sorry for the language!!!) as I would love the chance to work there but I really doubt I'll get recalled for the interview due to poor grades and lack of experience :-(, but him saying he wants cause its 'easy' is really doing my nut in as some people like me getting a job like this would be better then winning 100 million on the lottery.
  18. yes i look on there everyday and i did my degree at cov uni
  19. lol i do most the time when i help a friend who doing a hnd in ict, i'm watching the budget as i type this
  20. youngster?? hahahaha i feel like a very old bitter man at the moment , at university i did computing as my degree and it covered alot from web design, network (also did cisco well level 1), alot of IS, HCI. I guess i was just having a bad day when i wrote this, Thanks for all the replies you guy/girls have given it has cheered me up
  21. well i've been looking everywhere (local news papers, websites, ect ect) and there hasn't been a job advertised for an ict technician in the birmingham area or coventry and god knows how much I really what this to happen now, it just getting very depressing now , opps I live in coventry and i'm more then willing to commute to work
  22. I'm 24, what i would call my ideal job to start off with would be a ICT Technician as be a great learning experiences for me. I don't have too much experience behind me but i have done some voluntary work as a ICT Technician for a few months after I left uni for a company in birmingham and I also have some experience working in a school but it is in admin and also Exam Invigilating in the coventry and birmingham area's. Well now i'm just getting down beat i'm getting really bored and depressed that the fact I have been applying for every IT job (that im qualified for) I can find but im still out of full time work. It almost 2 years since i left uni and i'm still not in full time employment and that i'm a million miles away from what i really would like to achieve in my life, currently there doesn't seem to be any jobs out there in the coventry and birmingham area's.
  23. I live in the uk, coventry to be more yes its a Bsc with honour in computing but its a 3rd , don't get me wrong i worked really hard during my uni days but i'm not really good at exams, i understood more or less everything taught from time stamps in databases to Information systems just the exams i could never get my head around. Anyways i want to the technician side cus i've always been good at fixing computers lol, i'm always getting calls from friends to family to help them out on there pc issues and I believe I would excel at being a technician and hopefully get into a network managers role one day. I know that I would need to do courses and I would really like to do CCNA once I got a job (as i'm more or less broke cus i've spent a good 1k learning to drive) cus I live near the local college and they offer it as a 2 year night course and then move onto doing a MSCE.
  24. Hey guy, i know it might be a bad thing that my first post is asking for advice before i've even contributed to the forum so i do apologized for that. Well i finished Uni last year and i took some time to find out what i really would like to do before i try and end the ICT sector as you all know there are million different things i could do with my Computing degree, I made my mind up that i would learn to drive first (which i've now managed to do) and try to gain myself a position as a Technician as i know i would be really good as one. I don't have too much experience behind me but i have done some voluntary work as a ICT Technician for a few months after i left uni for a company. My grades at gcse and a level was never that good and i'm struggling to gain a job as a Technician, can anyone give me advice on how to gain a job as a Technician?
