What a right pain in the backside. I spoke to their techies today and I was informed it was a Windows 7 issue. I have older versions of this laptop and Win7 goes on them fine, just not these. They do know it is a partition issue and I had the exact same problem last year with XP and WDS, so not just Win7 at all. I got around it then by only specifying "modify" rather than "wipe" in the XML file. I have SCCM now and figured out not to format the drive first. If only I checked here BEFORE working it out. Good to see that I am not alone on this though.

Did you suddenly redirect the start menu recently? That's what it seems to be for me. Are you saying that the start menu is empty now with nothing in it? As for the no access to C: drive, my guess is that it's a GPO being applied to the wrong OU or group and applying settings to all users below it. According to the second link I posted earlier, the Taskbar icons should be both in the user profile and the registry. I couldn't get the thing to work properly, getting the icons but them being completely white instead. If the registry isn't right then they wont show. I am guessing the general consensus here is that Taskbar redirection is a pain to do. Great

There are various ways of pinning items via scripts or registry entries but you are right, something so simple has been forgotten. I am sure someone has come across this but I can't seem to find anything useful or a reason why it is happening. I've just deployed Windows 7 to a 2008 R2 domain and it was all working fine until I got around to folder redirection. I am thinking it is related to the Start Menu as I am sure it was working fine until I merged the "All users" menu with a few extra icons from a redirected one. The redirection is working fine, no problem there. The issues is that now my taskbar seems to have lost the pinning of IE and Explorer. I can re-pin but I really need users to be able to see them without extra pinning. Media Player has stayed weirdly enough. Local users where there is no GP's being applied are working fine. I can always look into adding the taskbar pins via the registry (there is a useful guide out there) but I would really like to know why it is happening first. Anyone seen this and know why?

Another update: Fixed it! I read through the documentation again and noticed the bit about "cache: no-cache" in IIS. I removed it and suddenly the files now download in IE 8 and 9. The delete and rename are not working as well as they were but I assume that is to do with caching again. Either way, I am now happy to launch it to the students and teachers.

Update: It appears to be IE that is the problem. I can't seem to download/open files with IE in school or even on a home machine. Chrome (which it dawned on me I use on my Win7 machine) allows the download as soon as you click on it but with IE, nothing appears and it errors immediately. I see version 5.3.1, which I had when I noticed the problem, has a IE yellow box fix. Anyone know if this is related to the problem? I've just reverted back to the previous 5.3 release and I still have the same issue. Thoughts... anyone?

Firstly, a big thank you to Nick for an excellent piece of software. I have been looking for something just like this for a while now and this couldn't have come a long at a better time. Despite the setup video being for an older version, it was great to follow and made it really easy to do. I've never really dealt with websites and IIS much before, so any help was appreciated. The last problem I seem to be getting now though is to do with downloading the files. Is there any setting limiting what can be downloaded through HAP? I do seem to be getting different results between XP and Windows 7 with the latter working fine but with XP, I can only open pictures (assuming this is because it can be opened with IE) but any word documents (txt, docx etc) produces an error box.... Internet explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Go back to my Windows 7 machine and it's fine. I can't seem to find anything set in Group Policy yet that may be blocking this. Can anyone think of anything obvious, be it the config file or a setting in IIS, anything really.

I think I am fast running out of ideas and talent. By the looks of it, it is finding the home drive but it could be lack of permissions somewhere. A copy of that config file would be handy, penfold_99, I looked at mine and there isn't much in it to suggest a problem (but maybe that is the problem). This block looks really promising and I can see others who use it, love it. There really does seem to be a clear 'works or doesn't work' theme.

Oh no, sorry. The system here is already authenticated and doesn't prompt for further info. Reading comments on Moodle.org: Modules and plugins it seems a lot of people have had issues with double authentication.

The block only appears on the home user screen, not the actual main page. You need to log in first to Moodle and then the block is visible. So I cannot tell if the Home folder name listed in the IE window header is one from the actual home dir or just taken from the users name and it assumes that what it is called. I need to manually create a folder and check this one out. Basically, if the user is fake, it will not show the block. Doesn't really help you, I'm afraid, Hightower. I'll check the permissions and look at LDAP auth again....

Yup, same problem here by the sounds of it. Downloaded zip file, followed the 'README' instructions inside, set up the share info and added the block to the front page in Moodle. Now if I log in and click on the home drive link, a pop-up box appears and is empty of files. The column headers are there but nothing else. Oddly enough, if I refresh the page, 'page cannot be found' is shown and if I refresh again, the original screen comes back. It basically rotates between 2 pages. It's not just the home drive either, I have added another shared folder as well but the same happens for this. Confused. I assume this is very similar to yourself, Hightower?

Control panel sorted: installed the ADM supplied by EJWILL from http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/46809-windows-7-removing-libraries.html#post430548 which takes care of many things. It even took care of things I want back now and I can't seem to find out how Better than it was though. :S

Ohhh... lovely. Right, well the wallpaper seems straight-forward enough, i'll give that a go in a while. The start menu has appeared at last with several changes and I 'think' the answer was the setting to remove users home folders from the start menu, as yes I was trying to redirect it to the same place that XP is directed to. The Control panel is still playing up. I made the change you mentioned above but still not removed. I'll give it a better go now and see if I have missed something. All I really need to do now is sort out those darn Libraries. I am sure it was okay yesterday until I tried to remove the icon from the desktop and now the extra folders are there in the users home folder. Thanks for you help, dhoward_westexetc!

Any update on this one? I am trying my first Win7 machine for the students and with a pretty basic GP currently running (all other GPO's have been disabled for testing purposes for this week) I am getting the black background, Control Panel icon and no start menu appearing. It's driving me nuts, any ideas?
