I'm getting the right hump now!!! I've looked at the settings you have used, and mine are the same!! I've even just added a value for "C:" - Everyone Modify to the writeaccess.ini and it still wont work!! I've logged onto the PC and manuallly set these values too under an Admin account - still no good!! Do I need to Add anything in under Software Restrictions? Like the folder path and the exe path? Are there any registry settings / permissions that need to be changed? many thanks,

Thanks guys. I am having real trouble with this. I have created a writeaccess.ini file and used the same settings you are proposing - at one point I used more settings while I have been trying to get this to work. Interesting what you say about not installing on a PC that has Macromedia MX on it; I have PCs that had MX installed and now have CS5 too - the install was fine (as long as I installed Adobe Air first followed by Adobe Help). My problem is that the install only works for admins - teachers have privelleged rights on their own laptops so they can use CS5 there. If they logon on to a PC in an IT suite, CS5 wont work and it doesnt work for students either. If I make a student a privelliged user on an ICT Suite PC CS5 works so the problem has to be rights!! I'm really stuck!

Hi all. We are trying to install Adobe CS5 on our CC3 network - what a nightmare!! It seems that Adobe have changed the way they made their web programs work and that different rights are required on the C: drives. If a user is an admin, all CS5 aps work fine, if the user is a teacher or student, the apps fail! You need to provide right access to several folders (one in Documents / All Users and the other in Program Files / Common Files / Adobe). I've done this but I still cant get students to run Flash or Dreamweaver. Has anybody out there come across this yet - or am I the first? We are running on a CC3 network. Cheers

Hi All. Got a bit of a weird problem. I have a bunch of iMacs that I have attached to both our Mac and Windows domains. I have users logging on with their AD accounts and saving their work in their own areas on the MAcs - I know far from ideal but at the time it was the only option I had. I now want to get the things sorted properly and have them save to a share on either the Mac Server or a Windows device. However, before I do that, I want to take a backup of each iMac. I created a folder on a Windows server and shared it, accessing the share from an iMac. I then just copied the contents of the iMac Users folder onto the share. However, when I check the size of a users folder on an an iMac and compare this to the folder size on the Windows server there is a big difference!! I am sure this is me doing something wrong, but is it possible that not all contents of a Mac folder will be copied to Windows? Will Windows compress a file automatically, if it is in a Mac format? thanks for your help. Brahma

Guys, I like VNC - have used it for years before moving into education. However, I have seen reports that say that VNC is inherrently insecure and that it is a very simple process for anyone to "break into" a VNC session and watch what is going on without the users knowing. For this reason, I stopped using it in school as I didnt want to compromise the Teacher's security. Are you guys aware of this - or have you got a new product that doesn't have an issue? Cheers,

Hey!! We have a windows 2003 RM CC3 network with a weird problem. Every so often (and we cant identify a pattern) our main Forest Root server just hangs, bringing with it a whole network freeze. Sometimes the server comes back to life other times, we have to turn it off and on (you cant even shut it down). There are no entries being made to the even logs in any folders - everything looks fine! The symptoms point to a server hardware problem but I'm not convinced. I want to monitor the server to see if I can find out what its doing when it goes wrong. What tools do you guys use to do this? Network Monitor just churns our loads of low level stuff that dosnt make a lot of sense to me. I was hoping that there might be something similar to the debug facility within Exchange where you can have the system write lots of info to the event logs? Not sure what values to select in Performance Monitor! Cheers,

Morning All. Have a PC stting in our reception that displays our school website and allows parents to browse the site while waiting to be seen. Have setup the PC to boot using iexplore.exe -k - there is no keyboard just mouse. All works fine until they launch a link to a pdf document - this launches Adobe Reader in kiosk mode too and cant be closed!! I have edited the preferences in Adobe Reader so that it is not launched within Internet Explorer but this doesnt seem to work if IE is in kiosk mode! Any ideas? Many thanks,

I have created the schools website (which is a bit of a work in progress) based around a "home" file name of index.htm but I now want to temporarily add another page that site visitors see first. I thought that if I created a new page called "default.htm" this would be loaded first. However, this does not seem to be the case. Is there anyway I can put a page up that appears before index.htm? Hi All, We have recently installed a Trapeze wireless network. It seems to do what it says on the tin with some basic testing, but I guess the real proof will come when school starts again next week. Anyway, my question. As far as I can tell, the 3Com Wireless Access Points are basically relabelled Trapeze Access Points (or is it the other way round!!) Do any of you guys run 3Com APs on your Trapeze system? Seems to me that the 3Com units are a lot cheaper than the Trapeze!! Cheers,

Thanks for the ideas guys. I hadn't thought about setting rights using a script - that sounds like the best bet - the teacher can run the script file just before the students logon. I'll have a look into that route as a solution. Cheers

I know this is probably gonna sound like a daft question, but here goes .... I want to password protect a network folder - not to control security of that folder as that will obviously be by using NTFS permissions. Here's the scenario: Classroom of students all have access to folder called "Fred" on drive "G" via NTFS permissions Students can not open "Fred" as they dont know folder password Teacher tells class the password, students enter this and then have access to data in "Fred" End of lesson, Teacher sets the folder password to somthing different Basically, I want them to have NTFS permissions sorted, but give the teacher an additional control so that students can only access something when she tells them to start by way of giving them an access password. Hello all. Does anyone know if it is possible to prevent certain users from attaching photos and or pictures to emails? I have a number of users that insist on attaching photos to their emails and I just want to stop it. If I cant prevent it I'm gonna have to disable their email accounts. Cheers,

Hello all. Sorry to raise this one up again - but I've got a similar problem with my OWA on Exchange 2007. It has been working fine but has decided to stop. I get exactly the same problem as the original poster had. Does anyone know the solution? I have been experiencing problems with my Exchange server since a recent power cut, so I increased the event log logging and that process set all of my Exchange services to "Disabled"!! I changed them all back over to Automatic and the main Exchange system is working again - but no OWA. When I checked Services again, WWW, HHTP SSL and IIS Admin Service were all set to disabled too!! I restarted them and OWA kindof started working again but not properly. I wondering if there are some services that aren't running that need to be? Also, this thread mentions security and virtual directories - can anyone tell me how to check to make sure these are setup right? Many thanks,

I guess what I mean is you can generate good looking graphics in another package and when you save that image it is saved at say 130 x 40 pixels. That graphic, when used in your web page, is always 130 x 40 pixels regardless of the screen resolution right? So on a smaller screen say 800x600 the page looks squashed with a big graphic. So should you always develop on a small screen, assuming it will be ok on a large screen? I would like my logo to have some depth - a bit 3Dish ...

This is where my lack of skills comes in but I seem to be able to get much better looking images for titles banners etc by using graphics packages. I cant get decent looking text thru Dreamweaver. So I guess my question is how can I automatically control the size of my images - or cant you do this? Many thanks

Is there an easy way to specify the size of your web page? Probably a daft question, but I have developed my web page for viewing on a 1280 x 1024 desktop. However, whenever it is viewed on a 1024 x 768 or an 800 x 600, it looks naff. What if the quickest way round this? Do you have to develop 3 pages for each size - and if so, how do you "test" the screen size in your code? Many thanks,

Hi All. I 've just installed Entourage 2008 for Mac on my Mac book and setit up for email - talking to my MS Exchange 2007 server. Problem is, Entourage has downloaded my emails from the Exchange server and not left any copies behind!! Rather annoying as I need to access my emails from various places - not just the Macbook! I've done some investigation but cant find out how to disable this "feature". Anyone know how to do it? Many thanks,

Morning All. I've had an issue this weekend whereby my Exchange Server just stopped responding. Any clients that tried to connect got a message saying somehting like "Outlook Folders Can't Befound" and then something like "The Exchagne Server maybe down". When I checked, the server was up and running. My first guess was to reboot the server as I thought the network service had stopped but this didnt resolve the problem. I then checked the services and a number of the Exchange Services weren't running. When I tried to start these manually, they failed. I then decided to check disk space and found that I was down to 358KB on my D drive - this stores the Transaction Logs. I have delete all log files from when the server was installed at the end of October up to 30/11/08 - this has given me about 3GB of disk space back. Restarting the services still did not work, so I rebooted the server again; this time everything came up fine and email is working again. Sorry for the long preamble, but thought you might like to know a bit of background! My question is - there are still 28,500 log files in this folder! I need to be sure that this issue doesn't reoccur. Shouldn't the log files be cleared down automatically or will manual intervention always be required? Also, how long should you keep your log files for - is one month sufficient? And filnally, what are the log files used for - I'm assuming you need them if ever you want to do a restore? Can anyone help with a small problem? I have 8 iMacs that I have installed on my network (we are running Leopard on the iMacs with a OS X Server running Tiger, client authentication is being handled by AD) I have installed Logic Express 8 on all eight iMacs and for the last 6 weeks, logic has been running without a problem. Yesterday, one iMac decided to stop running Logic and I get the error 'The application "Logic Express" is not allowed. Logic Express is not on the approved list of applications' - I tried to run Sibelius and got the same error. The errors occur when a student logs on or when I do (and I am an a Domain Admin!). If I log on to the iMac with the local admin account, I get 'Logic Express is not on the approved list of applications' with the 'Always Allow' 'Allow Once' options. If I click always allow, Logic runs!! I haven't got Worgroup Admin setup yet and am not using Parental Controls. Can anyone let me know what has happened and how I fix it? Many thanks,

Hi all! Right ok daft question time!! I am new to Macs (as you will probably have noticed through some of my previous postings!!) and I want to learn as much as I can as quick as I can. I have read the AD-OD Sandbox article about Mac / Windows integration and it seems that before I embark on this, I should really try it in a test environment. Unfortunately, I do not have a test OS X server. So that brings me to my question. I have a couple of eMacs knocking around with 2GB RAM - would there be anyway that OS X Server would run on this box? I'm not too worried about performance - I just need something to learn on!
