OK so I have had this on a number of desktops within the last few months. I dont know if it will work but it is defo worth a try, get to the BIOS of the machine and restore the factory defaul settings, if you can that is. Obviously I do not know enough about your current setup to know if this is possible but a piece of added hardware may be the root of the problem i.e. a SCSI card or ethernet card. Try starting it up with one of these items removed at a time e.g. take just the ethernet card out and try it, if no joy put it back and take the SCSI card out. I have seen machines die on me after having them for over 5 years simply because of a failing piece of hardware, it worked fine for years and then all of a sudden it is the cause of a system failure. Just give it a go, cant hurt!

I would defo try the above, 90% of these prblems are down to driver issues. If the video adapter is on board it may be worth resetting the CMOS or looking at flashing the BIOS (Only do this if you really have to though!). Out dated drivers and BIOS settings caused havoc with our NEC machines, some had the CMOS reset and have worked fine since, others needed the BIOS update run, was a nightmare!

First thing I would try is the fix tool in Word. File-Open then select the file you want and next to the open button at the bottom is an arrow, click it to get the drop down menu and click on open and fix/repair. Usually does it for me

Just wondered if anyone had any helpful hints here. I have a wireless laptop running XP Pro SP2, when I have the laptops ethernet connection plugged in I am error free and everything works fine, but when I am using the wirless I am getting errors in the event viewer. Now the laptop still works wirelessly but these errors are a tad concerning. The first of which says that there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request, BUT I am logged in?! Go figure. Any help you peeps have would be grealty appreciated.

We have VLC installed on a number of machines throughout the school, just a word of caution though, I know it is free and thats is great but there some DVD's (more specifically Disney ones) which do not play well with it. It seems to have some real trouble starting them after the piracy warnings, just something I thought was worth a mention.

I have the Creative Zen 4gb (credit gard size thing). An amazing screen but even better music playback (23 hours on a full battery). I got it when they first came out (bit of a creative fanboy tbh) and it has been great. I understand you cant just charge it anywhere but you could get a USB/AAA battery charge kit or make one yourself to keep it topped up. Quite handy little things, you put 3 AAA batteris in one end, the USB cable into your mp3 player and watch it go!

We have 3 trolley's here, 2 holding 16 ACER Travelmate 220's (getting on a bit now but a 1.4 centrino should be good enough for playing web games, because lets face it thats all they ever do) and the other trolley has 6 Acer 220's and 6 new Fujitsu Siemens 1.7 celerons in. All have built in wireless and we went down the d-link WAP route. MISTAKE!
