    Oracle

I worked with Oracle 10g and 11g in my previous job in Further Education where it provided the backend database for the college MIS. Oracle DBA support was provided by the MIS system supplier, but I found it fine to work with in my role. Using ODBC and SQL dynamic pass-through scripts in MS Access I was able to produce a suite of bespoke reports on the live data. As long as the underlying db is of sound structure (i.e. conforms to relational db rules etc) it's as easy to work with as any other relational db. I absolutely agree that it would be severe overkill in a school environment though! Unless you have masses of data and can afford Oracle DBA salaries you're better off with the common-or-garden MS stuff and MySQL.
  3. It looks awful... the PC version of photoshopping Nora Batty's face on wearing nothing but a bin liner.
  4. EduGeek is where all the metrosexuals hang...
  5. Ha, ha a thread abouts threads...
  6. We've been contacted by Serco regarding CMIS license renewal and wondered if anyone was willing to share info on their license costs (pm if preferred)? We were also told that the contract now runs on a 3 yearly basis - we had a yearly contract?
  7. SQL won't use UNC?? There's no need? What about an ODBC link to a SQL Server or Oracle database that's been secured. You could even use MS Access with linked tables and write the SQL in the query designer using SQL View - Access SQL queries will give them a good starting point if it's just an intro. There's loads of ways to do it as far as I can see.
  8. In no particular order: Hollyoaks Waterloo Road Eastenders Emmerdale Coronation Street Holby Neighbours Heartbeat My Family Songs of Praise Dancing on X-Factor Jeremy Kyle Trisha Location, location etc. Any makeover show Anything on MTV And yes that's more than 10 - oops it's all sh*te
  9. I sent one via email to the manager (I'd be working for) thanking him and his colleagues etc. I got the job but not sure if this was a factor???
  10. Paste the text into google and you'll be amazed what comes back....
  11. If all columns are the same I'd use something like: select * from (select * from old_data_table_name) union select * from new_data_view_name) into temp_data_table drop old_data_table select * into old_data_table_name from temp_data_table drop temp_data_table Bit rough and ready because you're creating a new table of contacts and need to drop the old contact table but it works...

    Ping Script

    Could even use ping -n 1 -l 1 targetip>NULL: to supress feedback?
  13. Dunno if you're already aware of this but your virtual tour of Humanities and PE have same images?
  14. Anything with Nicolas Cage in it... except Raising Arizona but that's because of the a great cast such as Holly Hunter, oh and Wild at Heart, cos of the other great cast.. Wilem Defoe, Harry Dean Stanton and Laura Dern... actually the Rock is a good laugh too... oh forget it. I just don't like Nicolas Cage.
  15. Very refreshing. I used to watch him when he had that show with Richard Herring. The stuff about moyles and harry plagiar... I mean potter was priceless.
  16. She's as business savvy as a cow that offers to drive the farmers truck to the market to save him a bit of money?
  17. Just because she attracts large amount of cash for being some kind of bovine commodity for the tabloids and trashy mags doesn't infer any intelliegence. This is nothing new; look at similar approaches such as winning the lottery, acting, premiership football, pornography, the royal family and similar low effort big return jobs. Who else can I offend???
  18. I think this is all going off track really but for the record, I didn't see any comment that she couldn't act? The Bollywood genre doesn't float my boat but I'd consider it mainstream too, probably as many people watch Bollywood movies as so-called mainstream Hollywood gumph.
  19. What gets my back up is how someone who couldn't even pronounce East Anglia, nevermind know where it is, could be be allowed to accumulate so much media attention and money when we impress on our children that education and a grasp of culture are part of the foundations to a successful life. All she is helping perpetuate is that being ill makes you famous and having no talent except a big gob leads to riches. This flagship of ignorance and petty-minded, self indulgent crap isn't going to even die out of the public eye. I couldn't give two hoots about her, if she hadn't been diagnosed with cancer we'd have seen her come back from the Indian Big Brother show with a contract for a show with Shilpa Shetty... I know, the Jade & Shilpa Show, a Love Thy Neighbour stroke Birds of a Feather gig where two over-paid and under-talented girlies exchange unamusing anecdotes about the trials and tribulations of life in a world where celebrity and education are poles apart... against a backdrop of our post-colonial Britain... Hee hee you get my point. Or worse... Celebrity Cancer... where at the end of the show hooded figure announces "I'm coming to get you!..."
  20. I almost added it but thought the 4 Cliffords was enough!
  21. So nobody had heard of the 'C' word till she got it? Crappy, Clifford, C-list Celebs, Clifford, Criminal-boyfriend, Claptrap, Cashing-in, Cheap, Crass, Clifford, Creepy, Clifford... Oh forgot... and Cancer too. She should give it to Charity, her children will have to live with the fact they owe their upbringing to the mercenary actions of a mother cashing in on her cancer like some great big swollen media maggot. Not to mention the insidious Clifford and what he's making out of it all. Unfortunately the vile magazines will sell and sell as long as there are shallow scumbags to buy them.
  22. I understand the KS3 model can be copied to create a KS4 but I don't have much experience. Has anyone got a set of notes on how to set up a KS4 assessment model/template (or whatever it's called) as Serco are telling me this is a feature we can only get through 'consultancy'. Any help would be very much appreciated!
