Has anybody tried Group Logic's ExtremeZ-IP for Windows/MacOS integration?

Returning back to the topic I finally got round to trying Ubuntu. It's OK I suppose though Gnome is starting to get on my nerves (Dapper Kubuntu hadn't been released on cover mount at the time). My real quandry is whether I should also try one of the major RPM distros. I've been a user of Debian variants either on Live-CD or HDD. If it wasnt for certfication by big boy hardware and app/DB vendors is there much to recommend running RedHat or SuSe?

I suppose it makes a good desktop PC for non technical users. My question is more addressed to geeks. Is there something in Macs and/or Mac OSX you can't get on any other platform. I think Linus Torvalds says he now uses a Mac so it must have something going for it as a geek machine. A certain southern based EduGeek is not convinced (check out the FFS forum ). Help them keep the faith.

At these type of prices wouldn't it be better to go for one of the big boys, Wise IntallShield?

Although we don't have Seban-Oxley in the UK, doesn't the law now require orignsations including schools to store all emails? Does this mean forever or something like 6 years there is for financial information. The periodic checking is the real iffy part. How do staff unions react to this?

Is it just the BBC that fails or other RTSP sites as well? Have you tried telneting to the stream servers on the RTSP port? What do the ISA logs say?

Let's not forget that Ric runs a thin client environment so that's why he might be so emphatic on the no on-access on servers rule.

Aefdisk only appears to work with FAT so it's only of use for a quick and dirty builds in a test environment or where you are using rollback.

Back to the original question. Yes the convesntional wisdom is to put AV on anything that runs antivirus but less step back a moment. If all the clients have AV and the server is patched then is it really necessary on a file server. There's probably stronger case for on a mail server because of the greater risk of automatic replication. This means breaking th e on-access rule but narrowing down to scanning the /var/spool/mail folder (or the Exchange equivalent). What do other people use for mail, Sophos or something else?

Yikes! No. Fat32 should not be used in a production environment. Unless you are using some kind of disk rollback scheme (e.g. Deep Freeze, SCT, Centurion etc.) NTFS is a must. on Windows PC.

Dumb question but do all swiches have to be 802.1x aware before it can be implemented? If most switches in the network support it, especially the ones connecting the servers, can the older switches just pass along the extra information without processing it?

@edie209 Did you use Setup Manager to enter the local administrator password? You can't enter the password directly in the .sif if you have the encrypt option enabled. As for the options have a look at the Ref.chm (or is it deploy.chm) in deploy.cab in C:\Support\Tools on The Windows XP CD.
