Well its nice to get them.... But windows generally seems to get upset allot..... We managed it for about a month.... then it got upset about something that simply wasn't what i consider a problem, So generally its not too much of a problem as long as everything is working and that its nothing critical thats giving you errors or replication errors....

Not Personally had this issue, Sure its not something weird with a firewall blocking the ping? Try turning off the firewall on the client and server see if you get the problem then?

can they see and access the area that all the short-cuts are pointing to? Tried clearing the users profile?

Just been playing for abit and one machine we had working fine, with the machine next to it (on the same switch and vlan) refusing to see anything not on the same vlan could ping machines on its vlan and nothing outside its vlan, then 5 minutes later the one that was fine has stopped being able to see anything not on its vlan, Hence i'm guessings its not dns related, looked at the logs on the switch there on doesn't seem to be any problems... And well its not just that switch its happening on, Anyone got any bright ideas i should be looking at? Think next step is wait till end of the day and restart the core switch.. ? **Looks like it was something really odd going on with the core switch, As a restart off that seems to have resolved the issues, Although we shall find out tomorrow**

Hey guys, Sorry i'm getting a sore head from this one.... So here goes... Server that does DHCP decided to crash out monday night, So came in tuesday restarted it, wasn't giving out ip addresses, Turned off the old wds that was on it, then bound the ip address so it could then give out ip addresses, then everywhere is getting IP addresses again... but now some machines are getting a usable dns and some arn't, We have 2 dns servers both seem to be happy(Can use nslookup on both of them and seems to resolve fine) Some of the machines (Doesn't seem to be a pattern what so ever) and when i say some we have 3 IT rooms that have 30 machines each that are doing as they should, where as some of them only get 3 working out of the 30(Whose that arn't working are receiving "there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request") Now doing dcdiag /test:DNS does give me: C:\Program Files\Support Tools>dcdiag /test:dns Domain Controller Diagnosis Performing initial setup: Done gathering initial info. Any chance its a firewall installed somewhere that you haven't noticed? Or something like a norton trial firewall installed that ran out of trial(half removed?) and still haunts this machine (I've had that before where it wasn't in add/remove etc, not in programs and not in processes, had to get hold of the advanced norton uninstalled? Maybe try a live cd just to check hardware is all happy etc... then you know your deffo looking at a software problem?

Another vote for the software restriction policy... GPO > User > windows > Security > Software restriction policies - We by default have it set to disallowed, Then have additional rules added for what we want to run... That way only allowed applications are allowed.. And you can simply choose not to add those to your list... Although just remember if you have multiple dc's the netlogon area will have to be allowed for each dc for logon scripts

HAve to say first time i've realised with started you can't change your desktop... Thats a really odd one to me :S But hey ho..... I think its a case of most people will live without it... if not they would find the 'ways around it'... When any businesses etc will be using pro anyway to be able to join a domain

Well you said you used the same domain name as the 2003 server... So they would have been the same domain... Although i'm presuming you promoted the 2008R2 to a DC.... Which is normal.... although you should have adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep to atleast upgrade the schema

Have you tried installing the software for it... least see if it works i mean mine i bought a year ago has it... so its not exactly new

If Adobe reader 4 was installed with a msi... you could use a script to do msiexec /uninstall

Well i know if you happen to have a logitech webcam some of them when installed with the logitech software have motion detection which allows you to record on motion detection

I'm pretty sure its not heat related, when i say boxed i don't mean a very small box and its got plenty of ventilation, and well its really not getting hot in there at all :S and well one that is out of a box just sat in the office has frozen on us before! But with the disabling the usb script i'd love to but i know for a fact it would cause allot of issues as the sixthform use usb sticks everyday, So i'm hoping we can simply use a different script or something else, to let them use them

But i am hoping they have some ideas to sort it out! And just noticed your edit on the keyboards, And we have one keyboard with the thin clients at the moment which can't take usb sticks at all... and well that hasn't ever needed to be restarted! Hey guys, Just thought i'd put this on here, see if anyone else has hit the same issue we have, Current setup is a Sun Ray Server (Version 4.1) with 45 sun ray 2 thin clients. Now we have these units boxed away to stop them going walkies or messed with! Now the sun ray administrator points them to a windows 2003 terminal server. But the issue we have is that the keyboards often stop working, as in totally freeze (if the num lock is on it stays on and wont un num lock as such) and not able to use any keys. Until we then unbox the machine and reset(simple power off and on) it then its all fine! until the next day, It seems to be random and no pattern to it! The only theory we have at the moment is maybe as we use the sun keyboards (with built in usb ports) that then they remove their usb memory sticks that maybe it removes the keyboard as well from the client , But we have sat there putting in and removing usb sticks all day and can't get it to recreate the issue! Any ideas welcomed! Thanks Azz

How about using an msi capture program? So catch it before and after installing the software... then you can see the changes that need to be deployed out?

Event logs? Something wrong with replication?

We had an issue with a program like that on our terminal server... try adding that program on the DEP (Data Execution Prevention)allow list!

Not a problem at all, way i did it is create a share on one of the servers, Give system full access to the folder, so then you should have something like \\server-name\msi$\office2007\ in that folder i then copied all the contents of the office 2007 to that folder, then basically follow this guide! Use Group Policy Software Installation to deploy the 2007 Office system

In all honestly... Best bet is to lock down what exe's can be run(Can be managed through GPO if your using AD).... as well that is a rather large security risk... Also maybe consider locking down write permissions to the C drive?
