Thanks for your master preferences hopefully this will stop the getting started screen. Managed to sort the auto loading issue by downloading a newer version of the MSI client.. I had an old version and this seems to have fixed it! I have set the XML file for app associations but it only seems to apply on the second login - any ideas? Thanks

Hi, Can someone please advise - which group policy settings do I need to configure to make sure that all of the computer and user policies are applied before File Explorer loads? I have tried to configure the computer policy to specify a default app associations file. On the first login this is ignored, on the second login it works fine. I've read about the asynchronous group policy, and enabled wait for network but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Pulling my hair out here.... even things like our BGInfo background script don't run. Tried to configure the login script delay... has anyone found the right settings? Thanks Joel

Hello Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue - We are using MDT to deploy a Windows 10 image using the disk ISO of Windows 10 education 1511 from VLSC (x64). This isn't a customised / captured image. When Google Chrome installs half way through the task sequence the program loads which isn't a major issue. The problem is it seems to place itself inside the default profile and each "first time login" for a new user causes the program to load. It asks which browser to set as default and the login to chrome window appears. This is despite configuring all the GPOs to prevent this from happening using the Google ADMX template. Any ideas? Trying to reg shot and see which keys are being placed but no luck so far! Thanks

Has anybody tried moving to a new domain with office 365? I've found a few pages online that say it should be straight forward if you make sure certain attributes match up. We have just taken over management of a site and are about to move them to a new active directory forest all together. Just wondering if anyone has any previous experiences of this. Joel

I can't seem to get SMART Notebook 11 to install on Windows 10 at all.. I think there may be a few compatibility issues. If I run through the MSI manually it works fine but my silent deployments no longer work. I get an error message about no items selected from the transform but I know this isn't the case! I had a similar issue with Windows 8 and I believe it was a UAC issue just can't seem to fix it this time.

Hello all Anybody got any ideas how to configure the regional settings through SCCM without capturing an image? I've previously used the collection variables to set the Locale and other regional settings. It works fine for Windows 7 but my Windows 10 clients don't seem to want to take me on. I believe I may need an Unattend file but can't seem to get my head around which parts to configure!

Hi all Beginning to think I am losing the plot. Windows 10 and Google Chrome just won't play nice... Everytime a new user profile logs in Google Chrome fires up and asks to be the default browser. I have no problem with it being default it's just a bit of an irritation for new users. Anyone else come across this? I've disabled all GPOs, checked the usual startup locations and can't seem to find anything. Thanks Joel

We have managed to (somehow) get a Windows XP driver working on Windows 7 32bit. Seems stable for the most part.

The proxy exception caused this problem for us... spent days trying to work it out and turned out to be something so simple.

We had so many problems with network home folders in 10.8 and 10.9 that we decided to force the local home folder and just map the network home as a dock icon. Not ideal but we make students copy work to the folder and off again. We do have the occasional lost file but the staff and students know the score and its their responsibility to transfer it over. We use time machine to backup the Mac user folder just in case though. I was dead against the local home folders at first but our Mac issues have gone from being every lesson to once or twice a week now.

Hi, You can do it with a preference file although I'm not entirely sure which one. We had this issue at first and it also occurred in Mavericks 10.9. I think I was uploading preferences to profile manager for an unrelated issue and it happened to solve it.

Hi, how have you bound the macs to AD? There will be an option called "Force local home folders" when you actually bind the mac to active directory whether this be manually or through profile manager. The behaviour you are describing usually happens if this box is ticked. When you untick it the folder reverts to the network for storage, but this redirects all of the Mac settings and we had various issues with programs crashing if the user didn't have a local home folder. We have had to educate our students and staff to save to an icon on the dock for their network home folder rather than giving them a fully networked account. We had numerous issues with Office for Mac, Logic and Apple iWork applications when users were using network folders and the mac was forever crashing and taking ages to open programs. For some reason you always get the mounted drive to the share of the actual home folder, and this appears because there is an option for mounting the network home folder on login.

If the iMacs do not show up in profile manager devices tab you need to go to your servers FQDN so for instance: osx-server.yourdomain.internal/mydevices If you then click the enrol button a series of prompts will appear, the end result of which will be the mac appearing in profile manager. At this point I usually then apply a machine policy in profile manager e.g. show Test machine on the lock screen as its then obvious that the machine part of the settings are applying. User settings are a bit more complicated and in the end I gave up with profile manager for user based settings and instead used the traditional workgroup manager method. If your users are active directory based ensure you are not using OS X mavericks 10.9. You will need at least 10.9.1 update to ensure that preferences of any kind apply to users from AD. There is a flaw in 10.9 which stops preferences applying to user groups that are AD based.

Ok cool How are you applying the preferences are you trying to set the restrictions using computer groups or active directory users? also what version are you using of OS X on your iMac clients and profile manager server?

Have you added the enrollment and trust profiles to the macs?

Hi guys, Need some help - I've successfully set up profile manager and enrolled our mac clients. I've created an open directory group and nested our AD users inside, but the preferences do not apply on first login. They do however apply when you login the 2nd time. If you go to system preferences - profiles you can see the correct profiles are downloaded when the user logs in, and the dock and background refresh as though they are applying the preferences but nothing happens until the 2nd login. Any ideas? Thanks.

I know Apple is trying to push people down the profile manager route, but at present there is still some support for Workgroup manager? Why else would they bring out a new version of the program for 10.8 and 10.9? Having said that we do have issues with 10.9 and applying preferences but I'm more inclined to think this is down to our dreadful .local domain.

I might be wrong wight his but I'm I think thats just the way it is. We have a magic triangle set up and when we map the network home folder it populates to the folder above where the actual user folder lives. I think its an OS X thing as after a lot of troubleshooting we realised users need to have read access to the above folder, where as on windows we could just give them full control over the home folder with no access to the above areas. Are you using force local home directory or are you using network accounts?

Hello, I need help with a script that will either delete a file/folder on login or can be run from the server and trawl through each users folder to find the offending file and remove. The file I want to remove is from the ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft Office/User Folder Templates/Normal.dotm as the spell checker language has been incorrectly set to English US. I need to then replace this with a correct version that uses English UK. I have tried to set the PLIST file in Workgroup Manager but it does not seem to work. Best wishes, Joel.

Hi sorry, we don't have the issue you have described with office apps. There was/is an issue with Outlook that is causing our client programs to randomly crash and it turns out this is due to a large number of SRS files in App Data. I've fixed this with a script on our file server now. Fix for this issue: Turned out to be something in the user profile. I have now given users a new mandatory profile and the icons have returned to normal. If you have this issue I suggest you recreate the profile if resetting the icon cache does not solve the problem.

Thanks for you reply Antonio. I'm pretty sure our DNS is working as it should but will double check on Monday. I think the issue is not with the AD authentication, as it does not shake the password box (which it used to do when our DNS was a bit wonky) it does try to login but is almost as if it cannot find the home folder which is saved on a Mac OS X Server.

Thanks for your reply. We didn't set up Mobile accounts when we deployed the machines. If they had mobile accounts would their settings still get saved to the network and documents redirected?
