  1. I had a "discussion" with one of our Deputy Heads regarding ShowMyHomework (SMH) and Moodle. Moodle is setup for classes etc, however the comments are that SMH is polished, allows parental access and allows an overview for HODs\management for homework and grades. Apart from what I can see, it is the same as Moodle's assignment module I would rather they used what is already setup however parental access and the assignment overview is eluding me. Is this something I can setup easily or even pay for someone to setup? Thanks
  2. ok that makes sense. Thanks I think I will have to just have to try it and see!
  3. Hi Benjie, In that case do I need to make sure that every mailbox we want to keep has an account in AD? Jeremy
  4. We have been running Office365 for a couple of years now and I am looking at setting up DirSync over the break to sync passwords with a view to moving towards SSO. So far I have created a new domain and users to keep everything clean and I have got our external UPN suffix setup in AD Are there any pitfalls for watch out for? for example, are mailboxes removed if they are not in AD, how does the matching of mailbox to AD work?
  5. Thanks so far int.school.com is looking the favourite so far. Do we need to do anything special to get the usernames to work under [email protected] rather than [email protected]?
  6. I am planning to re-build our domain as it is in a real mess. There seems to be a lot of debate on the naming convention for a new AD. Currently it is school.local, however I am thinking of using just our external FQDN school.com or int.school.com (M$ best practice) I fully understand that just using our external domain name will cause issues for users trying to get to our website without using the www. first, however THIS LINK seems to provide an answer. We currently have a couple of servers published, Moodle and Remote Desktop (2012), under our external domain name and our internal DNS route them without any issues. Does working towards SSO for office 365 make any difference?
  7. Thanks for all the advice. I will have a trawl through it all over the next few days.
  8. Thanks for the advice, I know that Books are old school, but I was just thinking of using it to get a few good examples together. I will have a look at the Illustrated Guide
  9. Does anyone have any Moodle book recommendations for creating courses, content and activities for Moodle? It's so I can start helping interested staff using Moodle for everyday teaching. I know the documentation is very good, but I am after something I can use for examples and motivation. Not sure if it makes any difference, but we are on V2.6
  10. The LA is providing us with a reverse proxy as well What should we be using?
  11. Er?! Just what I got from php info. To be honest someone else set it up for us. Maybe it's not an issue?
  12. It would help if I gave you that info! Windows 2008 using iis Thanks
  13. I agree, it should happen straight away! Have you tried on a smartphone?
  14. I searched high and low for it as well! Thanks anyway!
  15. Has anyone updated their open SSL on Moodle due to the Heartbleed issue - BBC News - Scramble to fix huge 'heartbleed' security bug I am on OpenSSL V 0.9.8x Does anyone know what I need to do to upgrade it to the latest version or am I worrying about nothing?
  16. DNS server can often take up to 24 hours to update. have you tried a web based NSlookup? Have you tried ipconfig \flushdns also have you cleared your internal DNS server cache? If all else fails try it on something not connected to your network eg phone to rule out where the issue lies - - - Updated - - - DNS server can often take up to 24 hours to update. have you tried a web based NSlookup? 17. I have just had a meeting with the LA regarding their Becta approved filter with a view to moving to a proper ISP and filter, where I was told that I need to stick with them or buy an accredited PSN connection (Public Services Network) for £6k + internet + filter. After some interrogation it transpires the council will only share information regarding vulnerable students through a PSN through LiquidLogic and we will not be able to access it without a PSN. Are we being led up the garden path with this or are schools now required to have PSN accredited connections, what are schools who are not going through the LA doing about sharing information regarding vulnerable studnets?
  18. I came across this the other week whilst trying to setup RDS on 2012 for staff Howto create a Windows Server 2012 / Windows 8 Mandatory Profile | Jeroen Tielen but lost my way with it so gave up! From what I could see there was not much information on how to do it. Good luck!
  19. I don't suppose you know how? Google is seriously letting me down!
  20. Thanks Maark. I am coming round to that way of thinking. You are right there is no way of stopping students from sharing files, even down to pen drives. Thanks anyway.
  21. Just to clarify, I want students to use OneDrive through Office365 but disable the facility to share with anyone else
  22. Sted - I want them to have access to onedrive through office365, but not to be able to share files. Maark - Because it seems the right thing to do, do you not block them?
  23. I have been trawling the web for a few days and not been able to find how to stop students (not staff) from being able to share files\documents through onedrive on Office365 I know this goes against the idea of SharePoint and collaboration, however I still want to stop them! Any ideas, or should I just give up?
  24. Thanks Liam, I will take you up on your offer. The way the network is configured is not ideal anyway so I need to start planning a way forward.
