If you don't want to change the hosting company, you're not sure what the problem is, nor do they, then you'll just have to put up with the downtime. Sorry, but it's your hosting company's job to provide a reliable service. If they can't do that, or at least guarantee that the problem is not at their end, then they need to be replaced. Try moving just one of your domains to a new host - See how you get on. It shouldn't be too painful.

I've just spoken to someone "In the know". Several libraries and a school in our LEA have already jumped ship without penalty. As we have not had an installation, our contract has not started.

I forgot to mention - LGfL/Atomwide's solution to this was to offer an improved version of RAV3............

I believe their plan is to exclusively use USO for Fronter Logins.

I too am a bit concerned about Virgin's involvement in this project. I read a really nice quote yesterday; We'll have to see how this all pans out. I'm expecting that LGfL will not be too happy is we decide to leave. I don't think they'd have much of a court case as we've not paid them, they've not been close to meeting their installation schedule, and are being a right royal pain. But they could make any transition very awkward............

Has the problem client changed from wifi to wired? Assuming you don't keep a list of mac addresses in your inventory (it's a pain, but really handy in these instances), is your AV management console reporting any dodgy staff laptops? You know which AP they were connected to - That gives you a rough location. If you allow their mac back on wifi, you may be able to locate the problem machine. Looks like you're in for a fun morning.

Hi Have you attempted to connect an XBox to the Firebox? It would make troubleshooting easier if you could determine if it's the proxy, firebox or both that are causing the problem. I'd also be surprised if there was not a dynamic range of ports required for online gaming. I'm not an XBox owner, but from setting up various game servers I'm quite amazed just how many ports are required for just one specific game. Have you also checked your content filter logs? It could be using http to connect to XBox Live, and a filter rule could be preventing this.

I've been given some very competitive pricing for 100Mb and 200Mb from BT. Also, Synetrix' price to 1Gb is comparable to what LGfL are offering. I'm still waiting on pricing from Virgin, but jumping ship is looking to be a very cost effective option.

Still running a load of Netware 6.5 servers over here, and are just deploying ZEN 11 and SecureLogin.

IPCop with DansGuardian is free, fairly easy to setup, and has been protecting our secondary school and feeder primary for over 8 years. It virtualizes really nicely, or runs on stupidly old hardware. You just need two NICs.

Hi all Next week my shiney new IBM servers and SANs arrive. I'll then be spending a couple of weeks migrating the VM's from my test setup to the production setup and P2V'ing the few remaining physical servers. That brings me to Phase 2 of the project - Desktop Virtualization. I've purchased 200 VMWare View Premier Licences, and am planning on converting some fat clients for the trial. However, I do need 10-12 additional workstations for September, and don't want to buy any more fat clients. I've not trialed or properly researched any dedicated thin clients, and was wondering what others were using. I'm more than happy to have a mix of RDP and PCOIP thin clients, as I'd like to see which tech best fits certain areas of the school. I'd also be interested to know what others are using to manage their thin client's configuration. I'm quite used to not leaving my office, so central configuration/management is quite desirable......... Many Thanks for any advise.

Black ops will be developed for the PS3/360 and will use pretty much the same engine as MW2. If you're happy with your current MW2 performance, then there's no real need to upgrade. Of course you could just turn to the dark side, get yourself a console and a decent controller like the FragFX and not worry about hardware upgrades.......

I'm using the Wyse Pocket Cloud app to connect my ipad to my 2003 terminal servers. The app will also work with VMWare View, so it's a good investment.

I'd like to do the same thing, but was hoping for a more elegant solution. I've contacted the BBC techies, and a "school friendly" version of iPlayer may be in the works some time in the future, but for now I'm under pressure to unban it. For Google, I was able to use my content filter to force safesearch on - I'm hoping to be able to do something similar with iPlayer. Worst case scenario, I'll simply ban any page which contains the words "iPlayer" and "Yes, I am over 16" If anyone finds a solution before I do, please let me know.
