Perhaps i'm worrying unecessarily Staff laptops on old domain with offline file synch on their home drive Local profiles only offline synch set in group policy Need now to join laptops to the new domain old domain still available My plan Backup home drive to external hard disk log on as local admin - turn off file synch in folder options Remove from domain into workgroup Connect to physical network Join to new domain Move required files to new folder Should this be ok? Have I missed anything?

Have set up a new virtual network based on server 2008 R2 in vmware Have migrated user accounts and all is working well Have set up trust between old and new domains We are now ready to remove the fully serviced packed XP client machines from the old domain and then rejoin them to the new. In the past I have just moved them off old domain into workgroup and then from workgroup into new domain This time we have over 300 machines Is there any easier way? We really want to decomission the old domain when the new one is up and running Thanks in advance

Schoolcomms now has web client so I can text from my old rocking chair in front of the roaring fire. Support has always been excellent.

I want to set a separate level of password complexity for staff and students I believe each active directory domain can only have one policy I read that there are progs that add different levels of complexity for different groups Any of them any good? Any other recommendations? Thanks
-
Another vote for Schoolcomms user friendly allows you to text or email nearly all groups available in Sims. Automatically fetches first day absence and allows txt and then process reply. Can even set up own groups with members not at the school eg our community classes after school. Now has a web client that can be used from my rocking chair infront of my fire! Having said that judging from the messages we have recieved schools are not going to be allowed to close in the future ....I havent got the letter with me but paraphrasing.... " Police and local authority warnings not travel except in an emergency do not apply to people travelling to work!"

After reading this thread I need some clarification; I run a webserver at our college; Server 2003, iis 6 with PHP and Mysql This runs our moodle, joomla and a number of other PHP/SQl apps like calandars etc At the moment these are all run from one database with tables with separate prefixes etc. mainly because I was new to sql when I set it up. I am unlikely to want to split these on to different servers Is having them all in one database causing any performance hit? Is it likely to cause any problems in the future? Thanks Mark

Although we are a secondary we had one ourselves only a few weeks ago I suggest you read The importance of ICT: information and communication technology in primary and secondary schools, 2005/2008 / Thematic reports / Documents by type / Browse all by / Publications and research / Ofsted home / Ofsted - Ofsted These inspections in primary and secondary provide the data for these reports Do you know who the inspector is?

Tried all above all virus/malware/rootkit sweeps blank Internet provider has been very helpful has blocked main culprits Used wireshark to grab packets attacking port 80 literally millions Loads containing text 'you've been owned' I would greatly appreciate any views on the following options; Move server to a new external ip - but what attracted them in the first place? Wipe server and reinstall - but if code is in php/asp web pages when they are restored will it all start again Any other suggestions?

what exactly might these edits look like?????

WAT filtering level
THERADIOTUBBY replied to marvin's topic in East Midlands Broadband Consortium (EMBC)
If you ask for Terry Candy he's the man! You can have 6 groups all mapped to the drop downs in WAT Group 1 is the site default which is what you get when you don't log in. The idea is that you make this block nearly everything forcing users to log in to pick up their policy. The only fly in the ointment is that the log in sessions appear to be limited to around 10 mins forcing users to log in 6 or 7 times in an hour long internet based lesson. This can be changed but i'm told it is an embc resource issue each session using valuable system resources - but i'm working on it!
