Nope it stays mounted, can always see it in disk manager and have also had it given a drive letter so I can see it in Explorer.

Hi, I have a problem where the server (2012) is using Windows Backup, but will only successfully complete a backup if it has been rebooted the previous day, it will then backup successfully for a few days but then stop again. I have looked in the logs and it seems that it starts and completes pretty much 2 minutes apart but there is nothing in the Messages section where you can see if it has backed up. Any ideas? I'm backing up to a USB hard disk, and is scheduled every night.

One of my Schools is having a rebuild and is soon to move in to their brand new building. As the new building will have snazzy new kit the kit from the old building will be mostly left behind as we have no use for it, if anyone would like to come to collect for a reasonable donation Here is a brief list of what we have and are willing to sell: Promethean Activ Boards (old style) some USB some Seriel. All bits and pieces included. Projectors (some not great condition but some are great) all pole mounted. Classroom sound systems including Amplifier, speakers. One Electric projection screen with control unit, currently in the hall. Will try my best to get this down before if anyone wants it. Hall Speakers x2 can have the brackets for these if needed. There are only 2 days available in July for this to happen, as this is after the kids have gone and after then the old school is off limits to everyone as it will start to be knocked down. The school is based in Coventry, so PM me if your school is after any kit and I'll give you location and dates to come. Photos, model numbers and any more details available.

What I've done with various WSUS servers it's completely scrap them and start again, if the server isn't running anything else, I just start afresh. Takes about 5 hours but also saves hours of troubleshooting when something does go wrong. Especially easy if their Hyper-V. Yes the clients may be without updates for a day or so but in that time it can be back up and running in a good state.

The fact the current server is 6 years old should be justification enough. Hardware failure could be just around the corner! Warranty could be a justification, if something does fail you have that protection of warranty, but on a 6 year old machine, has the warranty expired?

I've had to do this for one member of staff who changed their name, and everything was fine. We did the username change at school, made sure the laptop picked up the change and allowed her to logon and all was good! Her documents appeared as normal at school and at home. Test with one first though as this was on XP.

Hi All, might seem a really obvious question but I'm a bit confused. If a PC was bought and it originally had windows 7 on it, but it has been downgraded to windows XP, do we have to buy new Win 7 licenses to be able to put Win 7 back on it? or is it just a case of a clean install of Windows 7 as it was licensed originally? thanks

I changed the path on the Group Policy, and moved the MSI to another shared drive, This has seemed to fix the problem. Cannot understand why it has suddenly not liked the path we normally use for .MSI installs. Oh Well, Problem Solved. Thank you!

I ran the .MSI at a client from the shared drive, and it installed perfectly. Cannot get my head around this!

Thank you for your reply. I can see 6 errors in the event log. Most of which are saying 'A Component or Manifest could not be activated.'

Hi all, I have a problem with deploying an application through Group Policy. I have set up the policy as I would normally do. Gone to a client machine to boot up, I can see on the startup screen for xp that it is 'Installing Managed Software' and then goes onto installing the application. However when I log in as administrator on that PC (or any others) the application I wanted to add is not appearing on the Desktop, Start Menu, nor can I see it in Program Files. Very confusing, and the exact same thing happened yesterday with a completely different application. Can anyone shed any light on this? It's more than likely something that I'm doing wrong, however I'm setting up the policy as I always have (when it's worked) so thats whats got me stumped. Thank you Tom
