Nominet deal with sch.uk domains directly so you need to request one directly with them if you haven't been issued one already. Don't be conned by a domain registration company into paying fees on this, there are no renewal fees from Nominet, just an initial reg fee. Haven't decided yet, waiting for the new release of Windows server to be released before we properly assess it.

Ditch your friends, ditch your girlfriend, you'll be loaded...
-
Well that was a pathetic performance by England :-(
-
@Galway you missed out the 'with no extra pay' bit.
-
Well done Wales, just really can't believe England lost that :-( Just do us a favour Wales and beat Australia ;-)
-
Yep, good job Wales, although their injury list is a bit worrying. As for the Davis cup, superb performance, don't forget the brilliant job Jamie Murray did in the doubles ;-)
-
Cracking job by Wayne Barnes refereeing the New Zealand Argentina match, really showed how poor some of the other refs have been.
-
OMFG Japan have beaten the Springboks!!!!!! What a game, well deserved!
-
Yep, absolutely terrible with that Fiji try, no way he should be able to disallow the try after already awarding it.
-
Not the best performance by England, but they did the job, just. Didn't think they'd get the bonus point but nice work at the end

One thing I forgot to add, make sure you set up access control on your switches for the phone VLAN, just have a play with Wireshark and you'll see why ;-)
-
Depends on your phones and switches, on ours with HP switches we set the HP switch port as a trunk with phone VLAN as untagged and the PC VLAN as tagged then set the PC VLAN in the phone for the PC connection.

I would go with a Remote Desktop solution for staff, much safer especially if they're using it on their own equipment. Also performance is much better with heavy loads at busy times, such as when teachers are doing reports.

migrating users homedrives to new file server

I would also look at creating DFS namespaces, will make it much easier for next time you have to do this. -
Did you buy it in a Tesco store or online as there are different regulations which apply.
-
You can always wait until all the episodes are released and then sign up for the Prime trial ;-) I would've preferred it on Netflix as I think their streaming is better, looks like they weren't prepared to throw as much money at it as Amazon.

Can you give us some idea of the number of servers and size of your network? I very much doubt microservers would be up to the task, ok for a very small virtualisation project or testing but very much doubt the would cope with the load placed on it by a decent sized secondary school. Put it this way, our virtualisation uses 3 servers each with dual 8 core processors and each have 256Gb RAM. Yes we're a big school and run a lot of servers, but most large secondaries I know have that or more than us.

Mass awarding of achievements is used a lot in schools that use Positive Behaviour, automatic awarding of achievements/sanctions would be a great time saver :-)
-
That's a shame, all I would say Phil is use the app for a week and every 20-30 minutes add an achievement to everyone in a class of 30, you'll soon see why it's a feature that should be fairly high priority. The teachers who were with me at BETT loved the product, until they saw there was no way to select all students then it was a complete no goer.
-
Is it likely to be added to the achievement/behaviour sections any time soon?
-
The version of the software we saw at BETT you could only highlight one student at a time, there was no select all option to highlight all of them, yes once select you could add that group to an achievement. If that has changed, please provide a screenshot with a nice big fat 'Select All' button please so I can show SLT ;-)

Arcserve UDP is worth looking at as well, just been testing various backup software for our new server infrastructure and we found it the best of the bunch.
-
From Server 2012 onwards there's absolutely no need to retain a physical server or to back up at the same time.
-
Have they fixed it so you can select all students in a class when issuing behaviour/credit?
