  1. I mainly photograph alternative bands, here's a photo of dani from cradle of filth
  2. We put smoothwall in 2 weeks ago, had a lot of issues but most of them are sorted now. I was on an 8 month trial as network manager and moving away from our local council was one of my tasks... Talk about baptism of fire!
  3. We used to use the Sony nex-5 until it got stolen. Was perfect for teachers to use on trips as it was a bridge between a SLR and a compact.
  4. I have deployed smoothwall at my school over the last few weeks and Ausy's advice is spot on. I am still trying to iron out the issues at my site now so I hope your deployment goes well
  5. Cheers guys the feedback is greatly appreciated. At the moment the only traffic that is vlanned is our VoIP and CCTV traffic. EVERYTHING else just gets passed through without any vlans. Would you recommend vlanning off say the wireless and printing? (Sorry for hijacking the thread)
  6. I'm currently moving over from our paid McAfee solution to free avast. Anyone had any experience with avast? Only reason I ask is because I have 1 week to deploy a new AV and haven't got time to setup the free Microsoft one. Will hopefully move over to this in the future. Been really impressed so far as it has picked up a few things McAfee has missed.
  7. I am also in the same boat, currently dhcp has about 70 free IPS when everything is on. I was looking at the .248 subnet but I was under the impression every single switch and server will need its subnet changing. I have about 50 switches and servers throughout the school. Out of curiosity what would happen if I missed one of the switches? Would everything on there just work as normal as all my current switches and servers are in the old scope?
  8. Hello, As of the last couple of weeks my boss (network administrator) has left our school and I have been given a shot at the job. I have been deputy network manager over the last year but now I have to prove to people that I can do the job. Everything has gone fine except this one issue where students have been able to encrypt their files in their user areas. These files now appear green. One of the students has deleted his work so i tried to get a back from shadow copies but it said that I do not have permission to access or decrypt these files.... Is there an easy way to remove the encryption on these files? The shadow copies and cobian backup jobs on the userarea are also encrypted. I have tried taking ownership of the whole students userarea but there is still no luck. When i go to untick on the encrypt contents to secure data a message box pops up to say i need admin privileges (i am logged on with domain admins access) I click ok and then it says Access Denied. Is there a central store of the encryption keys for each of my students that i can use to recover his data and is there a way of turing this off using GPO? Would greatly appreciate any help, Many Thanks.
