  1. We have been having a serious performance issue on the client side when it comes to operating sims. I have suggested removing old data, as the SQL database is huge. We have students from the 90s still present within sims. I was wondering what are the data retention policy schools follow?
  2. Hi, I have a D-link smart Pro POE switch with has a habit of switching mode from POE to 'Link/Act. When the switch happens all the Areohive APs LED light turn red and none of the wireless devices (for example laptop) can connect to the network or the internet. Anyone can steer me into the right direction? I need to rectify this issue quickly. Regards
  3. I have the same issue descried above but I get duplicate folders in the user's home directory. I notice one folder i.e Documents would point towards a server location and the other duplicate folder would point towards C:\Users\

  5. I have inherited a Dell PowerEdge T610 from a local school, therefore wanted to put it to use elsewhere. However before I do that, my plan was to upgrade the memory to just over 16GB. Currently the server has 8 Gb of RAM comprised of 2 x 4GB inserted into the slot marked A2 and A3, now I have a 16GB compatible RAM module lying around and wanted to make use of it. My question is the following can I simply remove the 4GB RAM from slot A2 and replace it with a 16GB module. Would that be a correct memory configuration? Sorry but by profession I'm a Security advisor turn Technician (recently) therefore never had the opportunity to upgrade hardware previously. Thanks in advice.
  6. Hi, I'm using lan messager, which is working like a treat and every staff member is loving its functions. However when staff members are using the wireless to access the network, they're unable to see contacts which are accessing the network via a wired connection. After digging I discovered both wired and wireless networks are on different subnet mask. Can I add info into the option section in lan messager to get contacts to appear? All the google search came up empty.
  7. Hi, I am searching for a lockable charging cabinet which can hold upto 16 laptops however majority of the suppliers are charging upwards of £600. Anybody manage to secure a decent cabinet for less than £400? if so can you point me in the right direction. Regards
  8. Hi, I don't have a spare switch but what I'll do is connect the cable directly to the computer rather than the switch. The switch has a wireless AP connected to it so that the teacher can surf the internet wirelessly on her laptop and use the internet on the desktop. i'll report back. - - - Updated - - - Connected the one end of the cable directly to the pc and now everything is working smoothly.
  9. Hello, Our school is having a new build therefore a temporary class is setup and provided with networking. I have connected the temporary class to the access the internet/network resources by stretching a cat5 cable from the main building. One end of the network cable is directly connected to a port on the wall and the other end is connected to a switch at the temporary build point. Today all the members of staff had issues with accessing the internet, however could access network resources. Anyways I finally got around the problem by unplugging the cat5 to the temporary build and everybody can access the internet. I plugged the cable back into the port and bam we had no internet access. Anybody can point me into the right direction so that i can pinpoint the issue, because I have no idea whats causing the issue?
  10. migration tool is useful in migrating certain aspect of the system. However if you want to add the old DCs to a existing forest then you must de-promoted both the old DCs.
  11. Hey, I am new to this forum and decided to join after years of luring. As Microsoft suggested in there documentation it is not a good idea to upgrade. A migration is better suited since it limits the errors associated with upgrading.
