Hi, I think the write back to the default teacher happens when the teacher who initiated the event is not 'synchronised with your school management system'. When you look at a list of teachers in ClassCharts you will see that not all have the left/right arrows next to their name. These teachers have been created manually and they are the ones who are responsible for the mis-labelled comments.

Hi, Assuming that the child has taken SATs and that you have imported a CTF which contained the results, a quick way is to select the pupil, click Assessment in the Links on the right of your SIMS window, change the start date to something before the student could have taken SATs and click Refresh. Click on the Result Date header to sort on date and some of the first results should be EN KS2: Reading Test Scaled Score AWL and MA KS2: Maths Scaled Score AWL. That's your SATs. You probably already have a marksheet that shows these. If you don't see these then you will need to log into the DfE site and enter the UPN of the pupil into the Get Information About Pupils section. You could download a CTF and fill in the blanks for the pupil, but I think you should just get the CSV and read the numbers from there.

Hi, You can create a report showing Year, Date and Mark with a filter on mark to restrict it to 'L'. Use a pivot table to do the work and you should be mostly there. Then you just need to make sure any missing dates are sorted out and you should then have some numbers to play with.

Grade sets impose validation rules on the data entry into the aspect, allow comparisons and calculations and if you right click on the column header in a marksheet for a class and choose Show Grade Distribution you can see how the grades apply to the cohort the marksheet is set up for. Glad you have it working.

First, create a gradeset for your KS2 levels so you can use grade distribution in marksheets. Create your aspect for "KS2 on entry" for these KS2 levels. Add a Column for data review using formula and calculate the mean of your 2 KS2 scaled scores. Add a column for data entry using formula and use a nested if-then-else to test the thresholds against your calculated column and assign the appropriate grade to your KS2 On Entry aspect. The DfE in their Secondary accountability measures - update give the thresholds as Low < 100 Mid >= 100 but <110 High >=110

According to a Capita doc from 2017 Schools that act as their own Admissions Authority will receive an Admissions Data Transfer (ADT) file from the LA for import into SIMS. This file contains details of all the applicants who have specified a preference to attend the school. so it may be intended for the school. Probably best to contact the LA.

Yes, formulas - so many Excel! You would just need to be aware of unintended consequences of allowing new changes in something that may have been calculated elsewhere that is then used to calculate something else incorrectly.

If all you need to do is change review to entry and there are no functions involved and the columns are not duplicated for entry with the same result set, then what could possibly go wrong?

You could have a look at exporting the template, amending the xml and re-importing the changed template. All the tags that determine whether it is entry/review are there. Try a test on a simple template with a couple of aspects, one Entry and one Review to see how it works.

When using individual reports in SIMS we choose export to PDF. If you create separate templates for your report and any letter that you want to send with it, SIMS will create files with 'surname-forename-adno-year reportname' so with judicious naming to get them into the correct order you can then use a PDF app such as Acrobat Pro to combine these into a single large document to send to your printer. We put the address details on the letter and use window envelopes so we don't have any problems with matching up docs and labels. We use separate templates for reports and letters so we can upload just the report section to linked documents. As long as each template produces the same number of pages for each student there should be no problems. We include blank pages to make the whole document printable when using duplex printers.

Woody: Yes, the idea is to get all students, teachers, contacts and agencies plus SEN and medical details then build on this. We then have to either import templates - which apparently have to be cloned if we wish to make changes, or, start creating all assessment templates from scratch. The schools databases will be sent to Capita when we break up about the 24th July, there is a 2 week turnaround for the merge and I have been informed that it will be completely unacceptable that there should not be a fully working assessment and reporting system in place at the start of the new school year in September. Hope for the best but plan for the worst - any data jobs in Lancs anyone?

Yes, that was an earlier conversation, but the merge utility was the chosen option. I am merely the data monkey. The merge is being done on two schools, the resultant merged database is what is being ported to the clean build.

As a result of a school merger and changing to an academy we are to be given the 'opportunity' of starting with a new, clean SIMS database and filling it with data from the School Merge utility. Does anyone have any experience of this process and are there any gotchas that we should be looking for? We've already been told to try to align our lookups, but I just wondered whether there was anything else that others have fallen foul of. If anyone has been through this, what timescale are we looking at for the re-creation of a working assessment system and did you plan in any rationalisation of the aspects/grade sets/templates or just import everything? Hi, I created a grade set containing whole levels only with the value of each level set at the lower boundary for that level. I then set up aspects for KS2 and KS3 levels for each subject I wished to do the calculation on using this grade set. Within the template I then added columns using formula VALUE to get the points for each KS2 and KS3 teacher assessment. I added columns for 'data entry using formula' so that I could use the MARKS TO GRADE function to convert these values into the newly created aspects with the limited set of levels. This allows you to perform a much simpler calculation using DIFFERENCE that gives answers in multiples of 6 or whole levels. You will end up with 6 new columns per subject which is probably why I only did it for En, Ma and Sc. Hope this helps.
