FFT Aspire Benchmarks Tanking
hschram replied to tombry's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
I am sure that all of you have already figured out that all the GCSE subjects grades apart from English and Maths have effectively lost 10% ish of their value with the new number values. I would like to think that the Attainment 8 for most would/should be about at least 10% lower than last year just because of this not to mention that it's going to be a bit more difficult to get a grade 5 the old C (good pass) in English and Maths. -
This is what 2 week holiday does to you. I have forgotten the basic things of in life lol Thank you for the heads up and saving my sanity : )

Has anyone been able to download the KS2 2016 results for their new year 7 intake? When I do the usual search with UPN's it only returns the KS1 results. Any help or information is much appreciated.

16-18 performance measures summer 2016
hschram replied to Sods_Laur's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
Does anyone know if BTEC grades achieved in Year 11 will be included when you calculate the starting point for progress that students have made. Here is a link to the DfE document and this is not clear https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/482225/16_to_19_accountability_headline_measures_technical_guide.pdf -

DfE Secure Access credentials
hschram replied to DeeGee's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
Hi there, Regardless of how many e-mail addresses you have got it is entirely up to you which one of those you would like to use. You don't need to use them all. You can setup a forward rule for your e-mails. On the subject of DfE secure access you can go into the settings and changes which e-mail is used for each account. Which means that you can reuse the same e-mail address which is what I do for 2 schools. H -
Further Additional Science
hschram replied to hschram's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
Further Additional Science should count in the open bucket. -
@tombry - Have you heard of the ECDL qualification? It is run by the British Computing Society and is like an intense course in word and excel etc. It is graded like a BTEC and we enter every student onto the course that we believe needs the extra boost. Might be worth looking at it to help to get your average up. Also if pupils do well in this and managed to get a M grade it acts as a confidence boost. Here is a link for the qualification ECDL | IT user qualifications | Qualifications and Certifications | BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT

This new system is a step in the right direction to favour students with low reading ability etc. since now the main focus will be on Progress 8 were you got 3 buckets that could essentially be filled with anything that counts i.e subjects were reading level does not hinder such as Music and PE. As important as the English and Maths qualifications are the EBACC to me has been down graded with the new P8. This also favours you as a school since if your intake had very low KS2 results it should be easier to gain an overall positive P8 score. Remember that a negative P8 score will most definitely trigger an inspection or put you on that list.

it is a no brainer from a school perspective to enter every year 11 student for both exams. I just want to echo what has already been said in this thread. Tombry - tell your head of English that by not letting these students sit the lit exam you are effectively damaging the students overall figures as well as the schools. A quick word with the Head would help to back you up.

BTEC and Performance Measures
hschram replied to hschram's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
if you go to Raiseonline and click on the library tab. There is a link to all the courses that count towards the performance tables. I would include the link but the site is down at the moment. -

Fine Grades and Numerical Grades
hschram replied to tombry's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
@bobsmith thank you for your reply. It makes perfect sense what you are saying about a pupil that is fluent French speaker but have you got no cap on other subjects. I am just thinking that a pupil would only ace the MWL subjects because they were a native speaker. A year 7 maths student would not be able to get any higher grade wise than what they have actually been taught of the GCSE subject. -
Fine Grades and Numerical Grades
hschram replied to tombry's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
interesting discussion. I am working on a new gradeset that includes both KS3 and KS4. We have decided on a + and - system to reflect strong or weak grades but we have also created a scale below 1- to take over from KS3 grades (6a,6b,6c). My thinking is that we have got one single gradeset for y7-Y11 and the grades awarded below 1- are 0.95, 0.90, 0.85 and so on down to a 0. This is to make sure that the Year 7 students are not getting reports filled with U marks as current grades since they would not have covered enough of any subject to actually make a GCSE grade even at 1-. The same goes for end of year predictions. Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated and please shoot this down with something better by all means I will be looking forward to any debate, discussion or suggestions. Regards H -
Hi there, I wanted to find out if anyone out there utilises the automated report scheduling within SIMS. I am in the process of getting this up and running but wanted to put this out here for anyone that might have already done this successfully and wanted to share their successes and failures thanks in advance for any/all replies. Hi There, I might be wrong but let me try to put you on the right track Assuming that you use Sims and Examination manager this is what you could do. Every examination results is linked to a code that represents that exam along with the examination board etc. You can see these codes in student examination fields and you can double check them in your basedata in examinations manager. Now here is the beauty - these aspects are already in Sims and all you have to do is to link to the correct ones. Please note that that there is one aspect per exam. I hope this helps you some what. Best hschram p.s. please shoot me down if I am incorrect

Hi Mirmo, Sorry for the late reply it's been a bit mental here. I just wanted to say a massive thanks for the link and the information.

Mirmo have you got a link to the guidance that you could share. I have read through a few different P8 guides and none of those specifically said which English data to use i.e. just reading or combined. Thanks in advance

Interesting thread going on here. I have come across spreadsheets that are on Hertfordshire Grid for Learning Just google "KS2 (insert year here) marks fine level" and the top result is from them with a link to a spread sheet where you can enter your data into and it does all the calculations for you in terms of APS, fine level etc. I hope this helps someone out there
