Some netgear routers have Live Parental Controls (LPC) built in. This uses the OpenDNS filtering castes but lets you have timed filters, bypass login etc. There are apps for most devices now so you don't need a desktop machine or server to run it. PTC used to only release a site license for Creo once teachers had completed accredited training, does anyone know if this is still the case? I can't find reference to it on their website.

What source are you using? If your using a PC you could drop in a graphics card with a HDMI output or if you don't need the TV function, then Daves suggestion of using a large monitor may be better and cheaper.

Not many main brands have PC input on budget models. Not a heat map as such but I use WiFi Analyzer on my Android to test our wireless networks. Also found WiFi Heat but not sure if exports a heat map image for use in a report etc.

Following Autodesk's model of giving it away would be nice, not that I think it will happen. There are free or cheap alternatives however persuading staff to use them is another matter. A lot of CS5/6 can be replicated with things like Inkscape/Blender/Paint.net/GIMPshop/Lightworks however the learning curve with some is arguably steeper and you can argue they aren't 'industry standard', although some do get used in professional situations (often where small businesses can't afford Adobe!) What frustrates me is schools outlaying £10k for Master Collection then hardly using it. I'd like to see very cheap or free versions of Photoshop Elements/Premiere Elements for KS3/4, and heavily discounted versions of CS6/CC for KS5 and FE.

Just tested it, your right, removing the code seems to have stopped working, Google must have tweaked something. I've found a new work around, just change 'version=3' to 'version=2' on both occurrences in the code. Should work. I noticed that 'use old code' is not an option on some videos so they may be phasing it out.

The very cheapest ones available tend to have quite fragile bands that break quickly. We've used these Logitech ones in the past which are a bit more but last longer. I've been contacted by Matt Bell who is leading on it for Autodesk UK. They haven't officially launched the offer yet, I guess they will publicize it more when they do, although they are leaving it late for roll outs over this summer. However resellers shouldn't have been selling UK schools education licenses since July 2012, when the offer actually started (if you were in the know)

I would recommend riding one if you can before you buy. Decathlon, Evans etc are worth visiting. Online Chain Reaction and Wiggle have some bargains particularly if you need an unusual size. Another we looked at years ago was KAZ typing. Learn to Type fast: touch type after 90 minutes training Various versions now available, on line, off line etc. The basics are good, however I was put off by the quality of the audio which was a bit amateurish and doesn't seem to have improved.

Quite a lot of options here Typing Tutor, Typing Test and Typing games at rapidtyping.com Some of which seem free, some require signing in. The 'Typing Tutor' here Typing Tutor: Download appears to be free and have a portable version which seems ok.

There are loads out there, the free one listed seems ok, but like many is rather dry. Don't discount the game based or cartoon ones as whatever age you are, fundamentally practicing typing is pretty boring, however useful a skill it is. We had fun a while back using a load of single copies of 'Spongebob Typing', put them on netbooks and lent them out to primary schools. It's old but you can still find it around. The classic is Mavis Beacon which does a good job of mixing up standard exercises with some games to keep your interest. Also it customises exercises towards your weak keys. Site licences may be pricey.

I am working with a special school that is looking to improve upon it's currently mixed bag of stand alone WAPs. The school is in two buildings and quite spread out. The numbers of devices and users is pretty low (<20), as is the budget. I estimate we will require between 6-10 WAPs. Reading up on UniFi, using a software based controller appeals to keep the cost down and the devices aren't too expensive either. For a small system are they likely to be the best value? Any other recommendations? edit: Are they any additional software costs?

We are working with a special school that's looking at getting some touch monitors on gas arms so wheelchair users can access them. Our initial plan is to use a USFF PC mounted off the arm however quite a few of the current batch of All-In-Ones are available with a touch screen. Anyone have any experience of using 'consumer' touch panels in schools? I'd be interested to see how robust they are. Anyone seen any with a VESA mount?

Excellent work KarPlatt. Definitely a better solution than relying on a plugin. For reference there are two occurrences of the ';version=3&amp' code and both need removing. Adding in the commands such as '&autoplay=1' still works. Playback seems to be smoother as well.

The Promethean store lists them at £59. Not sure if VAT and shipping are on top of this. Can't see any for much less on ebay etc. Be aware that Promethean list different pens for the PL and DTF versions, so they may not be compatible. Both are the same price.
