  2. Hi Zero Hour Just wondered if you had a remote deployment souloution sorted yet? As we need to deploy to 60 machines ASAP!! Plus any tips or advice would be appricated. Never used Adobe Creative Suite 3. before! We currently depoly all our software via MSI's. And use a mix of GPO's and Ranger policy's Thanks.
  3. http://www.rangersuite.com/articles/view/0000000178 Soloution to sophos issue on ranger KB.
  4. The machines that have the problem - Do they dual processors? I know ranger had a problem with compatibity with dual processor machines that was fixed in version 5.7 Do you have two domain controllers?
  5. What version of ranger are you running?
  6. Looking for a program that is fully compatable with Windows XP and Mircosoft Server 2003 networks. Anybody know anythink on the market?
  7. Has anyone found a way of forcing where students save their work? As standard microsoft folder redirection doesn't interact with this program! Scratch have there own fourm which I have put some questions on to. http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2386
  8. Sure NTFS file permissions should protect the C:\ drive. But there are many Educational programs that require full control to files on the C: Drive at a user group level. So NTFS file can not alone be completely relied on If a program does not interact correctly with Microsoft’s standard security policy's which include policies such as hiding the C: Drive and folder redirection etc, and hundreds of other environmental setting designed to protect networks and reduce down time. Installing programs that ignore standard Microsoft security leaves a hole in the base network security required for many secondary schools where you have some very bright individuals that are always trying to break the system which in turn leads to much disruption.

  12. Hi timbo343, How many applicances does your school have aprox? Does your ICT Technicain do all the schools PAT? How many Hours does it take him per week? Thanks Noah
  13. Thank you for all your responses Out of interest do all the appliances get brought to a central location by the school, before testing or do the LEA testers have to get all the kit out of the cuboards etc?
  14. Hi - Just doing abit of a survay to find out how other school cope with the legal responsibility of PAT. Wondering if you could help me by telling me who does PAT in your school? 15. Did a complete server shutdown this morning County checked the date format on the server then tried logging into sims.net on the server as one of the affected with users with the same lesson monitor problem. No change, still grasping straw!
  16. Still struggling to get to the bottom of this one. Captia have no answers as yet. It only effects about 20% of our existing sims users - Create new sims users and staff can take registers no problem. Had our LEA SIMS Team dialled in today and they did a fresh Windows XP install with all updates and then did a manual Sims installation to ensure no conflicts. They then logged onto the computer as a domain admin with full access rights and no group policy’s in force. Loaded sims.net and they still had the same problem with lesson monitor with any of the affected users. Concluding that it can't be NTFS file permissions issue or a group policy related. We are grasping at straws! The LEA have even reinstalled SQL on the Server. We have almost conclusively concluded that it must be a problem with the sims.net permissions even though they seem to have the same permissions as working users which is rather confusing! As I've already said create a new user in Sims and there is no problem with the taking registers in lesson monitor. I've been told by our LEA that because of the complicated nature of the database with personnel details etc it is not possible to simply recreate existing staff users in sims.net Please anyone that can help with this one would be much appreciated. Noah
  17. Yes staff are able to see the time line and their register with all the classes being correct they are just anable to mark the registers with /. I personally don't set the sims.net program permission but have been reasured that they are all correct. Still struggling to find an answer to this one. Any help would be very much appricated. Noah

  20. Thanks mate, Would appricate if you could point me in the right dirrection for the patch. Not heard anything back from CAPITA yet! Will be back in work in the morning and might get some more details then. Thanks
  21. We have just started to use Lesson monitor for registration Problem is: About 23 of our staff out of 90 are not able to register there class's. The Class lists are shown but when the user tries to register it doesn't allow you to mark off the students with the / just comes up with the - We have checked the local workstation installation of Sims and Permissions etc and all are fine. Any Ideas? The problem has been esscalated to Captia. All other functions within sims.net work no problem with no application errors etc.
  22. Forgot to mention that all our clients are Windows XP and servers are 2003.
  23. Hi - Over the summer we have re imaged all of our 500 computers with the same core image and depoyloyed all our software using MSI's Via group policy. Problem is a some of the computers havn't installed the msi's. The only common factor I have found with the problem seems to be the switches that they are pluged into. If I move the network connection into a another switch it seems to pull the software down ok. Has anyone else had this problem with HP Procurve 2500 Series switches interfering with msi installlations and do you know what the fix might be. Many thanks in advance.
  24. Hi - We are in the proccess of depolying all our software via GPO using MSI's. We have over 500 computers on our LAN all running XP so we think this is the most effectient way of deploying software. We currently have a problem deploying Avantis Client 2.4 MSI as there doesn't seem like a way to specifiy which drive letters it uses. It just picks the next avaiable drive letter. Does anyone know of a way to specify what drive letters Avantis client 2.4 MSI is to use? Help would be much appricated
