Hi - Looking for suggestions on the best way to create a disk image of Windows XP that will work on various different harware configurations. Is this possible? What methods have you found that work best?

Does anyone know how to stop the prompt "do you want to close all tabs ?" coming up in IE 7. I want to if possible have a way of disabling the using group policy as we have over 500 clients! Currently it is preventing Ranger from closing internet explorer if a security violation is made. Help, much appricated.

We have a problem, all of our machines are switching on in the morning, but we are unable to establish what application is activating the WOL! Any suggestions how to find out what is trigging WOL?

Hi, Has anyone successfully installed solidworks on 500 clients without having to visit each machine and do it manually? What would you say my options are, anyone used Ghost to deploy it, or an MSI? Really struggling to come up with a solution for this one, so any suggestions are very much appreciated. Noah

Hi, Does anyone know any really good software packages that package stable MSI's for deployement. (we don't have any/much money to spend!) At present we have just been using wininstall LE, but I have been finding that some MSI's created are less than stable and cause problems when trying to unistall. Any suggestions, would be much appricated.

Came in this moring to a problem in event viewer on our primmary ranger server saying that: "Unable to put message on rgrcommsqueue. The data is the error code" Data 0000:0a 00 00 20 Some machines are reporting very slow login and error contacting ranger licence server. Thank you for reply. Are you sure there are not data protection issues with any member of staff being able to access any students files. Did you research it before implementation?

We have had a request to give staff access to all the students’ home directories so they can monitor files. Has anyone else had a similar request? Are there any concerns/issues with data protection that we should be aware of? Thanks in advance for any useful information Noah

Write a Batch file and put it in the startup scripts in a active group policy. Echo off REM Checks to see if the file exists on local machine before loading exe IF EXIST "C:\Program files\Example\runme.exe" GOTO END REM Full UNC Path of where to launch the software from. CALL \\serverwhere\software\is\loaded\runme.exe :END Good place to put it is in the startup scripts, although need to ensure that it doesn't take more than 10 minutes to install else it could time out as IIRC the defualt max time for a startup script is 10 min. Other options would be to use PSEXEC of insert an MSI into a group policy or use WSUS.

We have just re imaged our 500 xp clients to include office 2003 and 2007 on the same machine so users can start getting used to 2007. If we removed 2003 then we would get lynched!! The problem we have found this morning is that all .doc files are now associated with word 2007 so when the end user clicks on a .doc file it loads word 2007. Does anyone know how to change the file association so that all .doc files are loaded in word 2003 and all docx files are loaded in 2007? This doesn't stop them from loading word 2003 first then opening the required file from the File – open menu as I understand it the preferred working practice is for the users to click on the required .doc file and launch word like so rather than using the WinWord shortcut.
