Hi SHimmer45 Agreed Dells warranty is brilliant its specifically the VRTX system that I'm trying to convince myself is a good move or not?
-
Hi Abutters its exactly that that's holding me back (I will see what comes from my meeting) Cheers
-
Thanks again Dgsmith I have meeting with a company on Thursday that is providing a price on a Vrtx. I may still be going down this route for cost saving if nothing else.
-
We had something similar to this, it turned out to be either the credentials being entered without the relevant domain name first or the ip address of the client not corresponding correctly in DNS.
-
Hi Dgsmith thanks for the info... I'm still unsure the Vrtx is the best way to go for me. What sort of setup have you got? (How many blades, memory, storage) (how many VM's and what services are you running including backups etc) There seems to be lots of conflicting reviews available...the system not providing high availability and being a single point of failure etc. being one of the downsides. Going down the virtualized route for me would have being highly available at the top of the list of requirements. Not sure if the cost, ease of management etc at the expense of not being HA would be the right decision for me. Thanks for any input again :-)

Just a thought Edugeek Harriers sound good (open to all to comment?)

Strava and garmin connect work well together. I use both with garmin watch. Strava automatically syncs with new runs put onto Garmin connect. I will create a group on Strava then :-)
-
Anyone use Strava? We could start an Edugeek running group on there maybe?
-
Ok put slightly different then, would you use one or go down the San route or some other form of Scale out file server path?
-
Anyone used or using a Dell Poweredge VRTX solution? If so, what do you think of the system. It looks like it's a neat system that is an all in one solution ideal for creating a virtualised server environment. Thanks in advance for any comments on this....

Hi Jmak Apologise for bumping thus thread again I love Spiceworks its helped simplify my Job no end. The cloud based helpdesk is a no-brainer if you only want the use of an helpdesk.
-
Hi hardtailstar If you mean utilise the Spiceworks install to your benefit then yes setup a dedicated PC with a large screen to show the helpdesk and the network monitoring App very useful for quickly checking how all your network devices are performing and to see how many tickets are being created etc. Also we use the reporting function to run a monthly report on open and closed jobs which is then emailed to senior management. We use the inventory side of spiceworks to monitor printer status, client PC hard disc status and lots of other useful information. We have the Portal setup to provide users with another way of sending tickets to the helpdesk...help documents and useful web links have also been put on the portal. Hope that's that helps

Use Spiceworks to... helpdesk, inventory, network monitoring all good and free.

Hi Keyboards sorry for hijacking the thread I'm working on the same problem in the same school my colleague posted the problem for me... Basically the students download a .png, save it then attempt to import it into movie maker... So unfortunately "no" they haven't moved the file so it looks like that's not the cause of the problem. :-( Also there are a couple of student accounts that do exactly the same and the import works successfully. I've checked permissions GPOs etc. So where a bit stumped with this one!!!

Thanks Edugeek and Happy New Year too you all!!!

Tap the received text to display details of the text; which should tell you the sent time and the received time...

Maybe a problem with your network provider if it's taking 2 hours for the message to arrive?

Any ideas? We have several members of the schools SLT who are creating and using shared OneDrive groups. Works reasonably well apart from some users are now unable to see the shared files or folders within the groups. I added myself to one of the groups as a member via the O365 Admin account and I can see all files and folders. The problem exists from several platforms IE11, Chrome, Safari via an iPad. Any ideas appreciated? Oh and I hope you all had a good Christmas day and all the best for the New Year :-)
-
Also might be worth restarting the WAP or MAP your connecting too, I've had that a couple of times...which fixed the issue!

What a great thread...never expected to see this on a mainly IT support forum. I love running and glad to see so many people giving it a try and hopefully experiencing all the many benefits gained from running...(good effort to all and keep it up) also have a look at an app called Strava (great training tool) :-)

The conversation with SLT about using an Apprentice to replace the current technician was started in the corridor (a knee jerk response I'm hoping too addressing the need to think about replacing the technician when he retires) I will definitely be pushing for a full time technician as well as an apprentice. I am just trying to gauge what others have done or would do in my situation....I get the feeling my thoughts are correct and just having me and an Apprentice would cause havoc to the schools ICT support. :-)
-
Hi Pcstru There is definitely a job for the person but I'm not sure at this point what the plans of the school are. I have only worked at the school for a few months so I am a bit unsure of how they work. Ideally I would want an experienced technician and an apprentice so that between me and the technician we could provide the time needed to mentor the apprentice.
-
Question for Apprentices and support staff involved in training them? Firstly can I just say that I think the Apprenticeship schemes that exist are a brilliant way of providing a direct route into a career in IT and having worked with Apprentices in the past I know how useful they can be. The technician that works with me is looking into retiring soon and my bosses are considering replacing him with an Apprentice (good idea?) There is me...the NM and the current technician...so the structure would be:- NM + 1 apprentice What are your thoughts/ experiences with this? My first thought is where do I find time to train and guide the apprentice and how will they help towards the endless tasks and work load?

Yes thanks for the info...bencole I need to put something like that in place updates are currently being installed and managed by county and a GPO that I am about to change is set to download and install at will...doh! (I took over as NM 3 months ago and boy the network is mess) Thanks for the pointer over the libraries issue that fixed the issue their was a GPO set to turn it off but I think Wednesday updates turned it back on... I reapplied GPO and bingo fixed...cheers for your help

Ah! Roger that! We have not made any changes..started work this morning with the problem popping up all over the network...only changes are Windows updates that where applied last night. I ma suspecting they are the cause of it now...just which one there was quite a few installed :-(
