  1. I was reading my networking book and it starts of with the maths involved in networking such as binary. I myself am not a maths genius but I actually think I have got the hand of binary. Ok, what I know is each 1 and 0 is known as a bit and 8 bits make a byte so 1,000 bits would be a kilobit and 1,000 bytes would be a kilobyte, so would that make 8,000 bits a kilobyte? I also know that 1= on and 0= off and that 128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2 and 1 are the lowest eight positions used in the binary numbering system so the binary number 10110 would be 24 in the decimal system? If all I have said is correct then I will be pretty happy as it means I understand binary Also, I know undestand the joke about there is only 10 types of people in this world.....

  18. Ok, localssh works fine, however I cant ping via my physical machine, I get timed out. Results of ifconfig:
  19. ok when i get home i will run the local ssh and then try and ping the ip and will then note down the results from ifconfig and post it here.
  20. Ok, cool , will do that when I get home and if I can do that what would I do next?
  21. Would I type ssh localhost into the linux terminal? I havent tried this so when I get home I will.
  22. I actually ended up installing Ubuntu and I installed ssh via the shell using apt-get install and I can connect to the internet via my Virtual Machine and I am using VM Box or something. Also, I can now SSH into it but I now get a time out error.
  23. I now have it all setup and have installed ssh software but how do I connect via Putty? I typed ifconfig in a terminal and got the inet addr for eth0 but I tried to connect using it via Putty and got nothing.
  24. ha ha ha ha, dusty!
