  1. Not so. You can set it to prompt for a password on bootup, which replaces the USB stick idea, and store the recovery key in Active Directory. .. and, you only need to encrypt the data, not the full HDD. It's a lot quicker and any added data gets encrypted as it's added.
  2. I have it running on 8.1 - no issues so far
  3. I had a physical print server in the shape of Server 2008 (x86). This always seemed to work just fine. Then I moved printing to Server 2012 R2 VM (x64) - grief! I have a handful of HP printers and a couple of RISO Comcolour. The HPs seem to be OK but the RISO are constantly having issues where clients (x86) send a print job thru and it shows up "Deleting - printed" But it hasn't printed and never shows up on the printer's list of print jobs. If i change the printer properties on the server to 'Print directly to printer' instead of 'Spool docs so program finishes faster' it seems to work OK for a while, then plays up again later in the day. But this also slows down printing. All printer drivers are latest from manufac. Anyone else experiencing such printing issues? Im not sure if its a server 2012 R2 problem, the fact that its x64 server .. etc. At this point I'm thinking of going back to Server 2008 for printing.
  4. That's the reason i got a Mac mini. Have since put a SSD in it tho
  5. Peeps As Windows search is pants, I use agent ransack for searching files. What would be ideal is a search tool that also offers the option to move the found files to a new location and keep the folder paths with it. Know you of such a handy tool?
  6. Thanks everybody. I must say I do like Epson, so have gone with the recommended EB-485W (don't need interactive)
  7. Hi All Just about to start looking into Ultra short throw projectors for couple of rooms. Anybody got any recommendations for ultra short throw? I have Epson and Hitachi in mind but have yet to research them.
  8. Angel use ?? lol. I'd have thought Angel's would be too busy to be using Serif software
  9. Yep. the kids will be using it, personally, rather than sharing
  10. Not so sure it's software for 'Education', but ... Does anyone use the Serif free software in school? (mainly: WebPlus, PagePlus, MoviePlus etc) Is it any good? Nag screens? Very limited? Thought I might include it on the kids PCs but dont want to install it all if its rubbish.
  11. User access should be restricted on the share; both the share permissions and the security. Even if they don't have direct access to a mapped share, I certainly wouldn't rely solely on that.
  12. I have PMP and it does OK. Heard good things about Papercut tho. Used PCounter in a previous school ... nightmare!
  13. How odd! don't suppose they are hidden files .. and the one PC he can see them on is able to view hidden files, perhaps?
  14. Drive vaccine / Deep freeze .. kind of thing
  15. Make a NAS out of it
  16. I had 6 until I swapped 3 out for GBIC when new switches were installed. The other 3 still remain because the retards that installed the fiber to the server room .. didnt run it all the way to the server room! They terminated it early in a CAB with no switch and converted to to Cat5 instead. How cool is that?

Thanks all. I just got in, tho it has been so slow of late. Maybe the cleaner unplugged the server for the vacuum, again!

    HP website

I'm getting a 'server not found' error on HP website. Can someone else confirm, please? This URL should give you page that shows "1 match found" for a HP 500B microtower. HP Support, Drivers, Contact and Help Forums | HP ® Support Then, clicking the link under the search box gives me the 'server not found' error Is it me or them?
  19. +1 on the Glide I've only tested one but that's enough to know they are awesome. I'm on the brink of ordering and I cant wait !!
  20. I did this with 2008 R2 and it proved to be a pain, so I ended up joining it to the domain. In 2012 R2 it works a lot better, apparently, if its not domain joined.
  21. I got one from ipsCA. It's only for one year and it's not a wildcard, but it's free for edu
  22. Me too. I'm soo close I can almost feel the free @VeryPC mug! I wager I'll be putting in an order within the next 2 weeks
  23. Does anyone know - how to / if you can - disable the Apps screen in 8.1 ? I am happy to set up tiles on the Start screen and have all users using that, but i dont want them scrolling down to the Apps screen. They dont need it, basically. They'll have tiles
  24. hmm, that changes things a bit then - I read more than once that it's lost if the OS fails. Might have to rethink my strategy for the summer now
