beancole replied to Kellie's topic in MIS Systems
primetimetable is very good. its graphical and easy to use on any device as its web based. -
Does anyone know of a free option, or at least something you can buy outright for cheap (less than £100)
-
I know you can use Hub transport to add a disclaimer but I don't think you can or if so know how to add a users name and job title with AD plus school logo and awards etc.
-
Hi All, Does anyone know of a free signature software add on for exchange 2007? I want to add a signature to outgoing mail with logos, job titles, disclaimer etc. that links to Active Directory. cheers

They are always speedy but getting the account is a nightmare. My old place we used it all the time and they are always cheapest. HOWEVER. I don't use them now as they were really rude to the head on the phone when he questioned some of their practices. They are based down the road from me and I know people that work there they are properly dodgy go on trust pilot and look at their reviews. My mates sister works for Ebuyer one of her daily duties is to write fake reviews and complain about bad ones until they are removed. That said they are cheap....

Because I'm not putting MFDs in classrooms for 2500 pages a year.

not a bad shout @synaesthesia Misco offer it with £100 cash back HP OfficeJet Pro X451dw Colour Inkjet Printer (CN463A#A81) - www.misco.co.uk I'll have to speak to finance see if we can claim it back and Ill get 5 for the future.

I've not found any Laser printer that is worth the initial cost given the users only print 2500 pages a year. I'd like something that uses HP 940XL cartridges like the old HP officejet pro 8000, these worked out cheaper that our HP color laserjet 500 MSI's. This way I could save effort with multiple cartridge types.

Hi All, Printers are causing a right nightmare over here. We have desktop printers in our classrooms as were a special needs school, we cant let the kids go wandering for follow me (however staff could but they are too lazy,) Anyway what I want to know what printers do people recommend? Low cost per page low cost per printer. The rooms roughly print 2500 pages per year so an outside suppliers out the question as there's not enough volume. Also I am looking at buying PaperCut very soon so I can start monitoring peoples volumes etc.

smooth wall latest version provided by the council, there's a company called schools wifi that quoted me 7 grand last year seemed really good. I hadn't heard of unifi before last week. I discounted their quote immediately as I asked for PoE switches and not injectors. Still I reckon it can be done for around less than 5 K.

And the Army. (thank god)

This is what people keep bringing up 'Radius Authentication' Ive read about it, does it not require people to put passwords in to join the WiFi, where abouts are you is it somewhere close by that I might pop over to take a look at it in practice.
-
I am looking into Unifi and I would like to visit a site near by (close to York but will travel) as I was looking to pay people externally but were getting massively ripped off and our cabling infrastructure is already in place (bar a few points) So I will probably just buy the lot ourselves and put it in. I just want to be doubly sure before I go to the Head and say yes I'll do it myself. (we have been quoted £14,000 I reckon I can do it for £4,500 not to be sniffed at really) cheers, Ben

Never buy from Direct Imaging. They are staffed by kids and they know nothing. All our toner units were cheaper by 20% but then they ran out of toner too quickly but they seemed still to be half full (according to readings.) They have also cause lots of spots on pages amongst other issues they are all in date (with what's stamped on their boxes.)

Holy thread resurrection batman! green source solutions. ask for Kris, nicest supplier I have ever had.

I feel mac address filtering/white listing is more than secure enough for our needs, were a special needs school. That said I have when working in mainstream education (using Trapeze wireless) only ever found one kid capable of using mac spoofing to get onto our network. Even in mainstream I think the risk is mitigated enough. I have however never used GPO to set up wireless as Ive always been employed where a list of mac addresses have been used to create a group of devices that are allowed on the network. I have just briefly read up on Radius. How does that work in practice what does the user see?

I can see this causing issues with 3rd party software in schools. However I do quite look forward to windows 10. Not entirely sure yet how its really going to effect us.
-
I think for me anyway Rukus is out of the question due to the cost and the fact I get stung it we buy more APs does nayone know if UniFi do mac filtering? thats the main issue. As putting passwords in is not an option especially given it means you would have to log in locally just to put the password in.

check that the sysvol share is actually shared on the domain controller, (which it will be.) Do you have multiple DC's as it sounds like GP is not replicating to them all. That said these issues above don't really happen any more. So like @GuyJD says its probably a DNS issue.
-
wifi thats my only plan but we have no money. But as a standard I would look at your computers, figure out if you need more or if you just want to keep the same amount and estimate when they will be too old to use or beyond repair when they go. same for smart boards etc. (on smart boards look at the new smart TVs - longer lifespan)
-
what client OS are you on and what server/Domain level function?
-
I looked at this a while ago (I love plex) I gave up on the fact that there are like above some issues with copyright. And with movies for exaple and TV they must have the correct naming convention otherwise plex wont show them. I came to the conclusion the easiest way for this would be to have a read only area for student which staff can write things to.

run a cmd locally 'GPresult /h C:\gpreport.html /user:DOMAIN\USERNAMEWITHPROBLEM' do a /? for the switches for doing it from a remote computer. That will tell you exactly what is being applied and also if the policy is failing for any reason. Also if you think a profile might be the issue try this too;- delete and regedit C:\Users\USERNAME HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ProfileList
