Why specifically Edu Pro? Confusingly Edu Pro is Pro but Edu is Enterprise - there are GPOs that won't work on the Pro version amongst other differences.

Yeah just install the Hyper-V role.

This is the way.

BYOD Chromebook setup fee in a school - any justification?
Primus replied to Dos_Box's topic in ChromeOS & Cloud Based OS
Many school buildings are not LA property. Closing a school brings enormous scrutiny on the HT - we had a school have a devastating fire that took out part of their plant room, electrics and fire alarm. The pressure on the HT from DfE to find a way to open was unbelievable - almost open at any cost, find an alternative site - even if it's unsuitable etc. -

Orrrrrrrrrrrr - their existing school buildings were crumbling and they needed a better solution than a sticking plaster - sadly it's come back to bite them - there is no perfect system. We've got another school continually denied a replacement build having to spend a fortune on maintaining a very old, large and inadequate building - yes they received CIF and more recently SCA funding but it's nowhere close to the actual cost experienced by the school. We've another school where although their percentage of FSM is similar to others locally, they have a much more deprived catchment so have to spend more on staffing out their pastoral and family support teams - FSM isn't anywhere close to a perfect system unfortunately. My point was that it's easy to judge, schools are facing some pretty difficult challenges and times at the moment - there's a reason not many people are applying to be Headteachers! -

Not always, there's so many variables - the increase in PFI costs recently has crippled some of ours that were pretty well managed financially - to give just one example. -

BYOD Chromebook setup fee in a school - any justification?

Orrrrrrrrrr Schools are on their knees financially and they're trying to do what they can and sometimes get it wrong/don't explain themselves properly etc. It's easy to assume schools are wasting money, it's often not true but in the same way people might say IT waste money by replacing "perfectly good PCs" it's easy to look at spends elsewhere and for us to say "they replaced a perfectly good roof, I remember when it was last replaced in 1960 they did a fantastic job and it had plenty of life left in it"... an extreme example but hopefully you take my point. -
Amazon pricing when they have a deal on is impossible to beat - suppliers consider yourselves challenged! I order using my Amazon account and the work credit card, then we use every member of the team's account adding and removing the work credit card as we go! A pain but when they're £22.99 it's worth it!

It's the cost of the management licence. -
The following quote is from KCSIE 2024: "Protecting children from maltreatment, whether that is within or outside the home, including online" The bold section is the new added bit - therefore I think our read was right.

Knowing schools you will just delay replacing already old hardware for a further 3 years and then they'll expect even more from it at that point as you effectively gave them another 3 years already so surely you can work your magic again...

If we were in that position then we'd be using ChromeOS Flex or removing them. LTSC isn't supported for general purpose machines - you may get issues with them and if you do you're in unspported configuration territory.
-
The discussion was about whether LTSC should be used - MS have been explicit in their remarks on this. Hardware support for a given OS is a completely different matter - if your criticism of MS is that they weren't explicit enough for Windows 10 then they've certainly rectified that now! As always (and was seen with the Chromebook issue with ones suddenly stopping working years after their EoL date), if you choose to run an unsupported configuration then don't be surprised if at some point you get issues and you're unlikely to be able to get support because it's an "unsupported configuration".
-
From your link: "Earlier generations and models of the CPUs listed may have limited support for devices on this version of Windows 10." It doesn't say it's not supported, it says limited support.
-
We tend to take note of instructions on use from the manufacturer of products we purchase.
-
Microsoft say you shouldn't use LTSC on general purpose machines.
-
Even with names you'd want to do a DPIA - we spend our time complaining about staff trying to setup systems requiring student names and email addresses when they haven't done a DPIA or engaged with us so we should be doing the same.

Request for Donated Switches from "Connect the Classroom" Scheme
Primus replied to VHenley90's topic in Wireless Networks
It goes EoL and receives its last update in October 2025. LTSC is not meant to be used for general purpose machines.- 30 replies
