Further information - I have copied the details from the connect.ini files in the S:\sims directory and copying them to my client machine, I then tried everything I have already mentioned above with the exact same results.

Also if I run SIMS as..either domain or local admin. I get "Incorrect S:\sims\connect.ini file : System Exception. Not sure if that is important

Hello all, Up until now anytime I have installed sims I have done so via an image configured by the guy I replaced and it works fine. I have had to build a new machine and manually install SIMS and am having a few issues. Installed it fine via S:\sims\setups\simsinst, it was happy with all the settings, the software opens fine and accepts logins and SIMS looks to work fine. The user in question need access to the 'examinations' part of SIMS, when she selects it from the focus menu she is shown an error message implying she needs to be a 'power user' Firstly, what is a power user? I've never heard the phrase before, and there isn't a 'power users' group in my AD. My next though was loggin in as a domain admin (incase that is what a power user is), opening SIMS, logging into SIMS as the user and then attempting to open examinations, but I get the same message about power users. After some reading I found that a lot of people run 'simsperm.bat' so I decided to run that, so I ran 'S:\sims\setups\simsperm.bat mydomain\theuser' from a command prompt, only to be told that subinacl is not a recognized command about 30 times in a row before it stops. So I then went out and downloaded/installed subinacl on the machine but still get the same error. I then found someone with a similar problem and they were told to check that subinacl was in the same folder that simsperm is, which it definitely seems to be, I even had the .exe and the .msi in there at the same time. Does anyone know my next logical step so I can get SIMS running lovely? Cheers muchly in advance.

Thats sounds pretty sweet, when I log onto SIMS and click focus I get a few options but no system manager, I can only assume this is down to my credentials, I'll have a word with the fellow who was in charge of SIMS and get him to create me a managers account. Do you happen to know how far back the log will go, as in, if I don't get a suitable login until Tuesday will I still be able to look at todays login history? Cheers

Hello all, Other than running the update manager I've not had much experience using SIMS as until recently we had a member of staff whose sole responsibility was maging SIMS and Exam information. Anyway, to cut to the point, is there any way I can see who has logged into SIMS and when? So a log of users logins I guess. Cheers muchly as always for the sterling advice that usually follows.

I came accross that myself, it's a different problem, the problem in the link is somebody failing to install a version of linux via DVD. My problem is using FOG to image a host computer, FOG works fine with all machines in the school, but this new one just doesn't want to know, I'm stunned at the lack of support fro the problem, usually FOG problems are so easy to find and resolve using google but this one is driving me up the wall, going to be a manual windows install at this rate.

Morning all, Teacher brought in a machine today she wants to install in her classroom. When I connect it up and attempt to either deploy an image or wipe the drive via FOG, I get the error message. "Not enough memory to load specified image boot:" Not had any issues with fog and any other machine, is this a problem anyone has seen? cheers.

I'll give that a go on the morrow, we are actually replacing this machine quite soon, but it's still pissing me off. Cheers.

Hello there, Have a perculiar problem going on...and it's so hard to search for a solution without getting a plethora of articles about home internet wireless speeds etc.... So, domain situation accross a LAN... A member of staff has recently moved to a new office using an old PC that has been set up for a while. When the user tries to access the internet using her AD account, the speed is awful (loading google can take 30 seconds or so) we have a 100mb+ fibre connection which is brilliant usually. If I log onto the machine using the domain admin credentials the internet runs as it should, super fast etc, and all the network/proxy settings are identical on the domain admin and user profiles. If I create any new user accounts the internet is super slow, on just that one machine. If I use the same new accounts on any other machine, the internet is absolutely fine. My DHCP scope is as should be, my DNS records all check out Why is it that the only way to get decent internet speeds is to log on as domain admin? Cheers in advance.

no not at all, at the moment I have a new batch file just reading - "net use z: \\nm-pc\IT Scans" Though when I run this in CMD it says "Logon failure : unknown user name or bad password, I've tried and used every which way to put the user name and password into the batch file, but no matter how I do it it then just gives me some details about proper syntax use, so it either. A. says cannot connect because of bad password or B. displays syntax help information? How ever if I manually map the drive through my computer, it's fine, no user name, no password, just maps straight away. That said, the fact that this batch file isn't working is one thing, even if it was working, it still doesn't explain why the logon scripts don't seem to be working, as the same 4 network drives will ALWAYS re-map regardless of which logon script I specify in AD.

Hi all, happy new year. What started off as a basic task has turned into a head scratcher. I wanted to add a network drive to the logon script used by our staff "staff.bat"; two of our users need to access a folder on my machine, if I go to the users machine and manually map the network drive it works absolutely fine, until the machine is rebooted and then the drive disconnects. Because of that I decided to create a custom logonscript for the required users "staffICT.bat, I copied the original script, made the changes I needed, saved the script and then updated the users AD profile asking it to use the new script "staffICT.bat" when logging on, but this fails to work. I have been through all the GPO's to see the the network drives were being mapped elsewhere, but there is no mention of them anywhere in GP Editor. I have run a gpupdate on all servers and the test machine I have been using, but to no effect. I have also manually removed disconnected the network drives and restarted, and on reboot it re-maps the same 4 network drives it always did, no matter what changes I make to the logon script, as of now the script says to add no network drives what so ever, but if I manually disconnect them and reboot the machine, the same four drives are reconnected every time. Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi all, I'm looking at creating a new image for the schools machines in the new year, the only thing I'm a little puzzled with is the installation of SIMS, I've never worked in a school or used it before really, how do I go about insatalling SIMS on a client machine and configuring it. Is it just a case of navigating to the server were the software is installed and running a setup file or what? I know I could probably google this but I prefer to ask those who do it day in and day out. Cheers in advance.

Hi all, our school uses the LancsNGFL connection to get internet, which is usually fast as hell, today it's groud to a near halt, I've ran wireshark and seem to have a torrent of data coming in from 212.219.83.101, is anyone familiar with this address or could anyone explain why my internet connection is pretty much at 100% utilization because of this address? Well I created a new backup on an external drive for safe keeping and formatted my qnap to start again......now I can't reconnect the iscsi device, and as I have never really used iscsi am really struggling to connect it, all the qnap settings are the same but the iscsi initiator just cannot see or quick connect to the device....can anyone offer some assistance as I am screwed right now and have no backup media connected..

Has anyone factory reset a qnap nas before? is anyone aware of what impact this would have on my data? obviously I would remove the drives first to be safe, are they likely to go back in and work? Is there no way of seeing and using an iscsi device as a generic hard drive?

Yeah I have the IP and everything for the NAS, but then I get stuck because I have no credentials to access the drive, and because its all quite inmportant school data I don't want to overly mess with the NAS incase I put the data at risk.

Hello all, Over the last few days my scheduled backups have started failing giving me the error "access denied" I thought this was odd so I did a one of backup to a different location and the backup worked fine, only for ther scheduled ones to fail over the weekend. On my main windows backup screen is says the capacity on my destination is 999.98GB and used spaced is 472.13GB so that looked OK, I went to stop the scheduled backup to re-set it up but when I go to stop it is tells me the size is 1,000.00GB and used space is 999.98GB? Is my problem simply that my disc is full? IF it is, how to do go about removing files from an iscsi device as I have has literlly 0 experiecne with iscsi devices, the device is a qnap external RAID box which I have to user name or password for as I was given no hand over for this job. Anyone any pearls of wisdom? Cheers.

I'll try a sysprepped one next, in terms of AD I make a point of deleting the machine I'm a bout to reimage first. For example I've just re-imaged machine 5 in our ICT room, so I deleted the computer from AD before setting the image off, I'll sysprep my test machine and upload it's image....let's do this thing.

If I were you mate, I'd just totally flatten the PC and go again, reinstall it from scratch, even if you fix this problem you never know what else might crop up. If you take a look on the motherboard there should me a manufacturer name and model, if it an old HP machine etc then just search for the model number on their website for all your drivers. Download all your drivers, stick them on a USB drive, re-install windows and then install your drivers

Mother Fudger, no joy with using an image that was part of a work group....its the strangest thing the domains are there to select on the log in screen so obviously the machine has been added to the domain automatically, but it will just not log in until I've put it back into a workgroup and rebooted. I'm tempted to try sysprepping the image, but I know the guy before me never sysprepped the images and they work fine.... ARGGHH answers on a post card...

I used one called defraggler, hopefully it strands up along side jkdefrag as it has a much cooler name.
