I assume to check the users FMS permissions I would need to log in as an FMS admin, unfortunately the admin accounts are known only by a now retired ex employee who only comes in on Mondays, I have absolutely no access to FMS, only to SIMS, and even then I don't have full access rights to everything.....I'm aware how stupid that is. How did you ressolve the issue?

You won't find a bigger advocate of the complete reinstall than me, I just have a feeling it's not were the problem lies, plus it would mean too much down time for the manager whilst I'm carrying out the action. It is something I'll try if needed but that fact the error is the same on all the workstations running FMS makes me think a reinstall will do very little.

There are only 2 FMS workstations in the school and the problem occurs on both of them, which leads to me think that a re-install of FMS on the clients will do very little, unless they have both developed the same issue at th esame time, which I'd think would be a strange co-incidence.

Is it possible that windows updates could have caused any problems. The SIMS server is still running 2003, could the work station (win 7) have installed any 2008/2012 SQL updates that are causing a conflict or is that unlikely?

I was hoping to avoid such extreme actions, new machines are like gold dust in our school, as are old ones, I'll definitely wait for a reply from the support company before I go down that route. On the subject, how is FMS installed? I've installed SIMS by running the siminst.exe (that might be spelt slightly wrong) on the server, but as of yet I haven't needed to install FMS, is it more or less the same method?

Have carried out the instructions as you suggested but to no avail, exactly the same issue. I've got a called logged with our external support company who set up SIMS originally and am waiting to hear back from them. In the mean time any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I've also tried running FMS directly from the server it's installed on loggin on as the user and performing the same actions, and I got the same error. I'm not sure if this changes anything in terms of diagnosing the problem cheers.

OK I'll give that a try, I've just tried logging onto the work station as domain admin and got the same error as before. I've spoken to the user and she's managed to create a new financial year, year in year out since 2001 so I'm puzzled as to why this year decided to have a problem. She's out on duty at the moment so I'll have to wait for her to get back before I can try it (coded door lock) I'll try it and let everyone know asap

I think my lack of SIMS knowledge is my down fall here, what are the 'BDE settings, and paradox net etc, I understand about write permissions but not a lot else, unfortunately I've walked into a situation were everything has been setup long before I arrived and now there is literally no one in the school with any knowledge of the system and its configuration. When I search for the pdoxusers.net file it's sat on C:\ on the server in no folder Cheers .

Hi all, The school manager is looking at creating the entry for new fianancial year in FMS, how ever when it comes to clicking 'save' at the end of the process I get a lovely error message reading... 'General SQL error [Microsoft SQL Native Client] SQL Server LRM07' Again I'll have to admit I'm a little wet behind the ears when it comes to SIMS, the server and workstation have been rebooted, all the other features in SIMS/FMS work perfectly happily for everyone in the school, it's just when trying to create a record for the new financial year. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to start with this? Thanks in advance for the always sterling help.

I will more than likely remove it, but at the moment it's unimportant, I'm just using my own phone as a testing ground so I know what I'm doing if and when other teachers ask for it setting up on their phone......

Oh ok, the reason I have chosen pop over activ sync is simply because 1. I have no desire to enter the six digit pin 2. If I do change to a 6 digit pin I'm sure my wife will wonder why all of a sudden my phone has a new security block and despite any explaination I offer it == headache 3. The emails I recieve are mundane and useless to even the most hardened fraudster, I'm lucky if I get 3 emails a day, when I do it's either a sales pitch or an edugeek notification, staff come and see me in person and I have nothing to do with students. How ever as for the teacher...I will look to get her setup using activ sync as I have no idea as to the nature of her emails, and in case it isn't a given, I appreciate all the advice from you guys today.

Pretty sure I'm not using activ sync as I'm not required to enter a pin number or encrypt my SD card, the second I set up an activ sync account all that changes and I need to use a 6 digit pin to unlock my phone.

As soon as I try an use the activsync, my phones prompts me to create a pin to lock and unlock my phone and they encrypts all the data on the phone, I assume to many this is appealing but it seems a little more trouble than it's worth, what is the benefit of activ sync over POP?

Hi all, thanks for the replies, the heads phone let me look at the settings unlike many others, so I took the settings from there. Incase this comes up for anyone in future it was quite simple, it had to be set up as a pop account, with the pop and smtp server being 'outlook.lancsngfl.ac.uk'

Good morning all, another first for me in this job. A teacher has handed me her HTC windows phone and would like access to school emails. I have never set up email on a phone before and assume it isn't workign because I'm doing it wrong, or missing a setting. When adding an account should I be adding an "outlook" account or "other account (POP and IMAP)" Both seem to not work but I'm fairly sure it's because I'm putting in either the wrong server or domain name into the wizard. Coud anyone shed any light on the correct way to access school emails from a mobile, pretty sure the server is "outlook.lancsngfl.ac.uk" but as I've said I've never done this before and have nothing to go off. Well after all that it seemed it was a glitch in the install, I was advised to run simsappinstall or something with a similar name, and it resolved my issues straight away, I'm both overjoyed and disgusted.

Funny you should mention simsperm, if I try to run that I just get told that 'subinacl' cannot be recognized. I feel like I'm going mental, I can open SIMS, log into SIMS, but the second I want to open 'examinations' I hit a wall, surely if I can log in and use SIMS I'm not that far away...?

But surely an administrator account should be able to do what a power user can do? SIMS keeps telling me I need to be a Power User....what is a power user?

That has been done, doing it that way gave me a whole new error were I couldn'y login, so I copied the old connect.ini back and SIMS now opens fine, I can log in, browse the database. But as soon as I try to open examination I get the error... "Unable to register the new versions of SIMS .NET binaries. This is probably because you are not configured as a power user on this machine. Please log on as administrator and run Profiles again to fix the problem" What is 'running profiles' and why is it saying run it again as if I've already run it once?

I made a copy of the original connect.ini, and ensured that then new connect.ini was exactly the same as the one on the server. I'll try that after the machine has installed it's updated and rebooted, I only get "Incorrect S:\SIMS\Conenct.ini" when I try to run as local/domain administrator, usually when I launch SIMS it's fine, until I try to open "examinations" at that point I get told I need to be a power user to change the .net binaries...or something along those lines.
