  6. If you're interested in network/computer security, you can do can the following things to advance your learning: 1) Speak to your School's IT Dept (as already said by @Galway and others) 2) You could learn the basics of network/computer security in an isolated virtual environment in VirtualBox using the Microsoft Windows Eval images from Technet. (If your personal computer can run VM's) There are lots of tutorials online teaching about Group Policy, Active Directory etc etc. (That's mainly how I learnt about MS Server Software) Good places to look stuff up on is YouTube, Google, Technet Wiki and Edugeek. If your machine can't run any Virtual Machines, you can use the Technet Virtual Labs. Links for all the items mentioned have been linked below. Resources: VirtualBox, Technet Eval Center *Requires Microsoft Live Account*, Technet Wiki, Microsoft Virtual Academy, Technet Virtual Labs Disclaimer/Warning:The things you learn must not be used on your school's network. Only on your personal virtual network. You can serious trouble if you interfere with your school network.
  7. Call for volunteers ... Our ambition is to create a community supporting first time teachers of Linux ... you could be an expert, you could be an enthusiast, a novice or a combination of any. We intend to commence our recruitment of educational establishments from the 1st of November. Having a community ready and waiting as well as learning and discovering along side these teachers. Focussed entirely on Linux Essentials, we are hoping that through this venture we may encourage the teaching of Linux in schools. We are looking for volunteers. If you are unsure if you fit the bill, the criteria we are looking for is: Willingness to donate 30-60 minutes a week, participating in our online communities. This is not a fixed rule, we will not be counting every minute, some may give more, others less. It is about being part of this community and giving what you can. Open minded, for many this will be the first time. Understanding, some are educators, some are volunteers, everyone is trying to help. A desire to study the material and get stuck in. If you are interested, please send an email with your name, preferred email address and a sense of enthusiasm. There are two spaces, we would like to work in: The public external space, via the Google Forums, the focus will be on teaching and sharing of ideas for new and existing members to openly discuss linux and the teaching of this subject. The private internal (to Cisco space), where detailed, technical discussion on the curriculum will take place. We also have a facebook group, this is a social space. After the easy bit, as questions arise ... all we need you to do is: Check in on the forums (at least once a week) If there are any queries that you can answer, please do respond. If there are any interesting threads you wish to contribute, please do. Source: Open University Linux: Call for volunteers ...
