  1. Headteacher, Governors.
  2. yes, it is often better to buy them under select - which is my point. You can activate OEM machines using VAMT. We build a base image from an OEM machine and then image that onto others of the same make and they activate fine using the OEM key. EES isn't a silver bullet and you can often end up paying more than you would with perpetual licensing. It definately hasn't been worth it at our school and we have saved thousands by using perpetual licenses.
  3. Well from the article it provides updrade win7 licenses for desktops rather than full licenses - so presumably you need to pay extra for machines that don't come with windows licenses installed by the manufacturer. For machines that do come with windows licenses from the manufacturer, you already own the license so you pay for it again through EES. To quote " EES on the desktop though seems a no brainer" - I don;t think so. It only makes sense for MSOffice, not for windows - even then it only works if you upgrade irregularly and don't plan on any form of home access.
  4. Michael Gove takes the ultimate responsibility.
  5. Except for the things it doesn't cover, like non-upgrade licenses.
  6. Not entirely: Compare Office 365 Plans and Pricing for Schools - Office 365
  7. Sub question: Given that EES covers licenses for MSOffice - how does this now square with th Office 365 'A3' plan? Compare Office 365 Plans and Pricing for Schools - Office 365 Do you pay EES for Office and then pay again with the A3 plan?
  8. education.
  9. They only connect to the internet, Through a filtered proxy. We advise students about using a firewall, AV and password security. Everything else is done by the teachers following non-ict policies.
  10. Pretty good. We put in a lot of effort and had been directing things this way for the last 3-4 yrs. It needs a lot of support from SLT and there (as always) are people against it. You really need to work on the infrastructure before contemplating BYOD,. Biggest issue is out of date drivers on student machines They aren't our devices - so we are not entitled to monitor what people do on them. We do monitor authentication requests against the proxy of course, and with WiFi system (Meru) has a very good diagnostic capability. Inevitably there is some additional network usage - we planned for this and upgraded our broadband, internal servers, wireless and network to cope with additional demand. Don't really understand the question. The whole network is blocked from bittorrent and the like. Kids can exchange files between their laptops if they want. THey authenticate to it using username and password - its specified wpad.dat
  11. We have a BYOD program. 500+ user owned devices. It is mandatory for 6th formers to bring in their own device.
  12. You can access mailboxes, delegate access with GAM.
  13. there is that ;-)
  14. It's just because they don't have a monolpoly like MS used to have. The (basic) monopoly rules are that you are not allowed to use a monopoly to gain a monopoly in another area. The key thing is that you have to have a monopoly in the first place and this is why no one has ever taken apple to task over it.
  15. The camera did work fully on my desire with ICS so I suspect the Jellybean issue will be fixed at some point. I found that the desire is just too slow to run 4.x effectively.
  16. My Razr i just arrived and I'm quite pleased. The highlights for me are probably the instant on camera and 5GHz wireless. It feels well build and is a bit thinner but more weighty than the desire. The Motorola smartactions app is pretty good - you can 'program' it to do certain things with a given set of conditions. I think the 2GHz x86 processor has a lot of potential for modding too.

  18. There was a complaint to the EU because it was felt that microsoft were leveraging their 95% monopoly in the dekstop market to make sure IE was the dominant browser. In response MS opted to allow users to choose their default browser. Apple can't be accused of leveraging their monopoly because they don't have one - there are more android devices than iOS. What is a more interesting question is whether MS can afford to be more forceful nowadays seeing as they have lost such a large marketshare to mobile devices - they no longer hold a monopoly either.
  19. Agree GAM is the way forward. You can script bulk changes quite easily in bash, Powershell or whatever you like.
  20. I wondered if anyone can find any evidence as to whether this helps those with dyslexia? I'm happy to install it if there is peer reviewed scientific literature.
  21. I recall you (or someone on this forum) saying that before. didn't work for me.
  22. I gave up after finding that Kindle wouldn't work with a hyphen in the SSID
  23. I've run a few including ICS but I didn't find it very stable or very fast. I went back to CyanogenMod V7 http://get.cm/get/jenkins/3075/cm-7.2.0.1-bravo.zip HTC Desire (GSM): Full Update Guide - CyanogenMod Wiki
  24. IMAP is set to off for all users as default and you need to turn it on gam all users imap on ExamplesEmailSettings - google-apps-manager - GAM Account Commands to Configure User Email Settings - Dito Google Apps Manager - Google Project Hosting
  25. You should be buying a cabling contractor. These stupid netgear things cause no end of issues. I've banned them from my network.
