All 5 Roles point towards the right DC

It's current roles under "manager your server" are: DNS Server DHCP Server Domain Controller FileServer Application Server So I've removed the DNS & DHCP Server Roles and when I go to remove the Domain Controller role, everything should be fine so long as I don't click the "This is the last domain controller" or something similar option? And then it asks for a new admin password, which admin is it talking about?

Hi Guys We have a server which is supposed to replicate the DHCP, DNS and AD of the main domain controller, however, the replication's 2nd HDD has just failed and over all, I think the entire machine is going to fall over soon. I would like to remove the replication from it while I still can. How do I go about doing this? Thanks!

In the Bishop Barrington script (Which is just what I'm looking for!) I don't understand the line: "ping $host -c 1 -w 1" I assume it runs that like a normal ping in command prompt, but the PING command in command prompt doesn't accept a -c command?

Hi guys, just wanted to say thanks for all your help and suggestions, found 2 solutions: 1) Created the ghost boot disk using Ghost Solution Suite 2.0, and used the Universal Drivers. 2) When cloning from the console, it works with the Intel Pro 1000 NDIS drivers included in the latest Intel driver pack. Thanks again!

Thanks to everybody for all your suggestions and help, just thought I would let you all know that I have found a solution: I started from scratch with Windows Server 2003. This means that the problems originate from something added by R2 or Server 2008. I will continue to play and see if I can figure out what, but for now, everything is working!

I just tried to install WSUS on my Server 2008 VM, and was told that it cannot store updates on a network drive... does anybody know of a way around this as I don't really want the updates storing on the .VHD?

Hi guys, just FYI, alot of my problems were fixed by installing the Integration Services Setup Disk... but I still have another question relating to Hyper-V please, If the host server has 2 NICs, how can you make both available as Virtual Network Cards? I understand the idea of plugging them both in and installing them both etc etc... but then the host OS (Server 2008 / Hyper-V) now has 2 connected NICs, surely this will create some interesting routing problems?

I'm busy testing all your suggestions, I'm pretty sure there is nothing using the IP address already, busy doing network scans with Angry IP Scanner just to be 100% sure

Thanks for all your helps guys, made the changes today and it all seems to be working, all except for some stubborn bastard server that refuses to accept it's reserved IP and so sits there saying "limited or no connectivity", remove the reservation and it quite happily picks up an IP from the DHCP within seconds. Any suggestions?

What I'm going to try do is create a scope with the following addresses: 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.3.254 Subnet Mask of 255.255.252.0 I'm going to use 192.168.0.x for Servers, WAP, Printers (via reservations) and use 192.168.2.x and 192.168.3.x for PCs/Laptops I.e. make the actual distributable pool from 192.168.2.1 -> 192.168.3.254 what do you think?

oooh, a reservation Yes, that would work, but I don't really want to create 100+ reservations for the laptops & their wireless connections

We are in South Africa, we don't have LEAs (to be honest, I don't even know what that is or what it stands for) and so we don't have to pay for IP Leases What I meant was I can setup one scope, say, 192.168.0.x for Servers 192.168.1.x for WiFi Routers 192.168.2.x for Printers 192.168.3.x for PCs So theoretically, i would only set 192.168.3.x to actual have addresses available for leaseing, all the others would have to be set manually and have static IPs. but what if I wanted to introduce 192.168.4.x for laptops Is there anyway I can setup something somewhere or somehow so laptops are assigned from 192.168.4.x and PCs from 192.168.3x Thinking about it, I would say no, there is no way of doing without manually setting each IP (static IPs).

Hi guys, I'm having some problems with an ISA 2006 setup, the ISA server is setup as a gateway and is working fine, however, I would now like to start restricting sites to specific people/places. Currently the rule is: ALLOW PROTOCOLS: All Outbound Traffic FROM: ALL Protected Networks TO: External CONDITION: All Users I have created an URL Set of blocked sites, and created a User Set which includes the Pupils group on the Active Directory. Now if I setup a rule to block the URL set to the Pupils User set, it blocks the URL Set to everybody, pupil or not. 2nd Problem, How can I now go about only allowing internet access to Authenticated Users? Do I have to install the Firewall Client on every machine? 3rd Problem, Is it possible to create Computer Sets (for each of our labs) if we use a DHCP server, or must the IPs be static? 4th Problem/Question, what is the best way to track who's been to what website, or what websites are currently being visited by who and from where? Thanks guys, sorry it's so much!

I have another query please, If i setup multiple Scopes, how does the server know which one to lease addresses from?
