  1. I had this spradically in 2 IT Suites in the school and never did figure out what the problem was Times weren't out of sync and all updates had been applied The build was no different to the PCs elsewhere that were stable It would successfully rejoin to the domain and function quite happily...
  2. My only problem with WIMs is constantly having to update them with new applications (Flash and Java anyone?) as well as Windows Updates.... At least with TS's everything is always new and clean
  3. Not with the current location of the RAM and CPU it won't! Not to mention the absence of a certain Output device.... The blue diamond shaped pills that are behind the micropore in the first aid box should sort that out Should add some extra "fizz" to the display
  4. @Ric_ - in my experience, its best to use the TS's... It makes it a heck of a lot easier if you need to add/remove software, also you can do pre-application and post-application windows updates. Also cuts down on the need to store lots of WIMs...
  5. TBH, the Tiuner is only a cheapy (£22) from Wilko (AVerMedia AVerTV Global - TV Tuners, Media Player, IPTV and Multimedia Products - AVerTV Volar Green HD (Western European Region Only)) - spur of the moment decision. It actually works really well on Win7 - Plug it in and it finds the driver (even in x64!) and I can either use the supplied software or use MCE.. For some reason despite the driver installing ok in x64, it fails to get any signal at all...
  6. The stick is detected fine in Win7 x64 and the software loads, but it doesn't get a signal at all.. Even MCE won't play ball Shove it into an x86 and its happy as larry...
  7. Don't panic @john, I'm still here.. just missing my mod badge
  8. Time for some upgrading me thinks Though my main PC really should be x64, but my USB DVB Tuner doesn't like x64
  9. Lol, bit of an extreme example, but definately gets the point across!
  10. Thanks guys.. The M6 will be a nightmare for sure, but for the money it'll be worth it...
  11. After 4 weeks of being out of work, I am pleased to announce that I am once again back in employment It may only be a 6-12 month contract as an OCS Engineer for Barclays!! Needless to say the relief in the household tonight is immense... It does mean an 80mile round trip up and down the M6 every day.. but what the heck - its a job!
  12. Used to love the VW Campervan we had as a kid, though I dread to think how much it costs for Deisel these days, as I recall it was one heck of a guzzler and only did about 3 miles to the gallon!

    Windows 7 and WDS

2 optioins spring to mind here Stay with WDS but set the WDS Server to prompt for administrator approval.. When you boot to network for the 1st time it will pause with an ID code - go into "Pending Devices", right click the appropriate ID in the consle and choose "Name and Approve", enter the name you want and, if you want to, specify an OU.. as soona s you do this the PC continues to WDS with the newly specified name Use MDT 2010 - part of the Task Sequnece is to enter a PC name...
  14. how long before Twitter brings them down with "oi you've stolen the idea from us!"? I barely use Twitter (for a very good reason!) so don't really see me using this just yet...
  15. I'm really out of touch with games at the moment, and with recent events its not been foremost on my mind either I only recently discovered L4D and Portal! Completed Portal and working my way through Portal 2... L4D is more tricky due to the way you can only save progress at "safe houses" so really need a lot of time to play it to make headway - not easy with a 4 year old! Might take a look at CoD once I'm back in work... Used to be right into Counterstrike, but again life has moved on and since my Son arrived, gaming has really been on the back burner... Until now!
  16. How bloody selfish is this!? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY_CzPD2cYs
  17. Well after a rather disappointing few weeks of job hunting virtually every waking hour, I got some good news today: 3 phone calls all inviting me for interviews next week! One on monday is a virtual certainty on a helpdesk, though is about 10k less than I was on (Any port in a storm though!) Another on Tuesday and a second interview on Friday! Fingers crossed!!!
  18. OK PC games (Pre PS1/XBOX so talking about win98 & first few years of XP here) avg £10-£15 with many under £15 Now, PC games are up in the £30 (if you can find them crammed into a corner somewhere in amongst the PS/XBox/Wii games!)) A Game for the PS3 or Xbox costs anywhere from £40-£50, yet the same game for the Wii or PC is about £20-£30 - How does that work? This affects more than just one industry, and Games are freely copied, Consoles chipped, NOCD cracks for the PC Trainers - walk into "Wyndsors" and you can get a damned good pair for £10-£20 - walk over the the "Nike" / "Addidas" / etc racks and its anywhere from £50 to £100+!! Essentially you are paying for a name! And I have found that the pair from wyndsors lasts longer than the brand names! The rest is down to Rip-Off Britain....
  19. I stand corrected...
  20. I have to agree here.. the cost of buying either a DVD or an Album is ridiculous compaired to how much it costs to mass produce them. I recall when a "Single" came on Cassettes, where there were only 2 songs an A side and a B Side and came in either a plastic case that soon ended up as a makeshift ice scraper for the car, or a cardboard sleave... And they cost less than £1! Then the CD's came out and there were about 5 songs on it and the price rocketed to about £2-3 quid (which used to be the cost of an Album on Cassette tape!) and albums hit the £10 quid mark... DVD prices are horrendously overpriced - they get made for about a few quid, and then sold at about £20 a pop! And lets not mention computer games! (£50!?! - Hell a decent Speccy game used to be about £1.50!) /rant
  21. Thats what you get for using an iPad **runs before he gets lynched....** Seriously, does the new line show on the iPad? Just wondering if the iPad is sending the CRLF in a way that the forum / OS doesn't like...
  22. No worries I tend not to give neg rep unless its for something offensive, illegal, etc...
  23. Dunno who gave you the neg rep, but wasnt me
