Has anyone had the joys of attempting to install this on a windows 2003r2 server?! I have spent the morning trying to and have got no where. It will not run the content cd's it gives an error ,essage of unable to run set up. My AV is picking it up a a back door trojan.

Has any one come accross an ip address of 0.1.0.5. This address isnt allocated by our dhcp which is a 192.168.1.*** addresses. This stands out on one user. Any suggestions

I am using Grisoft AVG Anti-Malware Network Edition. It is a antivirus and anti spyware package. And it is reasonably cheap to purchase. I paid £6.26 per pc for 2 years (price for 300 pc's). I do find that it does slow a pc down when it runs a system scan. But if you schedule over a lunch hour or end of day/early evening it avoids problems with users complaining of slow running machines. Also they give a very large educational discount. If i remember rightly i think i got between 40% and 60% discount

Reset the server up. Restored the ad. got a class to log on and open a shared drive and it was doing the same. so it had to be hardware. The server was not blue screening or hanging. but when we monitored it the cpu was on 100% as soon as more then 5 users started to log on. Tried changing the cpu and this solved the problem

Finnally solved it. the cpu in the server had died. what was happening we put load on the server then the cpu went mad then all the clients fell over! Replaced cpu and everything fine

no gpo problems either

It is not DNS as the dns is doing it's job right! Also there is no erratic activity on the switches. When they hang you are unable to do a ctrl alt del

Sorry this is a long one!! I have a windows 2003 server (standard) on the latest up dates etc. It was working perfectly until 3 weeks ago. Since then all the connecting workstations have been hanging (about 57 workstation's). they will work fine for about 20 mins then they will all start hanging and only way to get them back is to restart the pc. There is no pattern to which ones hang. There is nothing showing up in the event log etc. We have changed out av from trend to grisoft network edition. but i have 5 other sites on the same setup and non of these have experienced problems of this. We have replaced all switches from dlink to netgear which helped the problem but it came back within a couple of days. also the server's network card has been replaced and the same happened. We have removed terminal services as we used to run these on some old pc's thinking for some strange reason it was a licence issue (as we only had 15 ts licences). This did not help. We have disabled the av and the problem of hanging workstation's still accurs. Myself and a external company both agree that the problem is server based, but neither of us can find what the problem is. All hardware is working fine. As far as both of us are concerned we have covered all eventualities, and next week we are taking the server out and doing a complete reset up of the server. Has anyone got any suggestions which we might try to try and avoid this work!!!

Just sorted it. The drivers from the site you linked to. I copied the contents of the protocol.ini file in the ndis2 folder into the parameters of the new card you create. and hey presto it worked! Thank yo for your help

Does any one know where i can find NDIS or pktdriver for the admtek AN983 network cards. I am trying to use ghost to image a suite and ghost wont recognise the drivers i have for this card!

Trend i have never run into problems with. the new version also scans for gaps in updates on the windows os. With teh server side you have one machine with the main program on and this distr4obutes out. it also removes any old versions/other companies av then installs there own. but with the server with the main program on it uses 2 licences. Also they offer substatial education discounts. The company i deal with is Network Defence on my licencing. Also they will cover multi sites on one licence

Contact a company called North West Linux. (http://www.northwestlinux.co.uk) they have done all my server work and installed 6 internet servers for me. There box is built to the spec you want and includes filtering for your internet connection. They are well worth a chat with. If you want more details or references for them contact me

have a look at trend client server. not as resource hungry and i find a better package all together.

We used HP Direct. And the finance side was sorted out via our council's finance department. I think at the end of the contract we have a choice of handing the pc's back or paying a small amount to own the machines.

All my sites used to use Sophos. I moved on to Trend Client Server with no issues. this is a better product. The only issue i had was finding a supplier. Which i ended up going through Network Defence. Trend will make there product as competativly priced as Sophos. With non of the issues you seem to have.
